I often drive my S3 with the pop up screen down. I rarely need it, it’s less distracting when it’s down, and has a sleeker look.

on the RS you have the sports dash dial available though, so i like to have that set and then use the pop up screen for the sat nav. i prefer the pop up screen over the 'bolt on ipad' that you get in a lot of cars. although these days they are starting to integrate the screens far better into the dash. but the pop screen is still cool, i dont think that its dated.

We love the pop-up MMI screen on our 2018 S3 and its one of the features that we preferred over the GLA or A4.

Lovely car. I predict in the future car manufacturers will charge a premium for "retro" analogue controls. I wish they would keep analogue controls. I am not a fan of touch screens in cars. Great review as always!

I agree, also, they try to convince us to pay extra for virtual cockpit to subsidise the intial development cost. In reality once this becomes the standard it will save them a fortune in the long run and date very quickly!

I like the pop up screen much better and elegant solution over all others that are stuck on the dashboard like a tablet. Amazing car, sedan version is absolutely best buy in the class, enjoyed the review as usual Thomas.

E30 ///M It’s a great DD if you don’t have a lot of slow moving traffic. If you do, the S3 or S4 will suit much better.

The adaptive cruise control works extremely well with slow moving traffic. Just handle the steering wheel, and the car will do the rest.

Thanks Thomas. I did buy the S3 facelift after your review and I do have to say this S3/rs3 8v is the best built ever from Audi. The car is very fun to drive and easily maneuver at high speed. I personally really like the DSG fart as it really sending a signal to my brain that I am a car racer ( at that particular moment at least ). Also it’s a perfect compact family car which I did drive slow with my son while his bike is in the trunk.

A friend of mine brought an RS3 like this and they are very quick cars and definetly loud, the thing is i wouldn’t call the RS3 a hot hatch I’d rather call it a super hatch or a hyper hatch.

Great review as always! As for the "tough ride", did it have Magnetic ride (adaptive dampers) option? I noticed it didn't have Bang and Olufsen audio system, weird for a test car.

Fantastic review as always Thomas. Everything you could wish from a hatch minus the economy. I agree 100% with what you say about Audis pricing though. They still charge extra for electric mirrors and hill start. These things are now standard kit for performance Volkswagen. It does seem VAG milk the Audi brand somewhat.

You don't need an S3 to be comfortable, just get the magnetic dampers for the RS3, they are more than enough comfortable for everyday driving. As for the consumption, I usually get around 8.0 l/100 km when driving around 90% freeway and 10% city driving. Then if driven aggressively often, you could probably double that. Also, I'm 205 cm, and I sit/fit very good in the car, just move the seat all the way back and in the lowest position.

Dudu Slots & Blackjack Depends on how much fun you want to have ;) I tried in the Audi configurator to configure an A3/S3/RS3 how I personally wanted them and ended up with these prices (after the discount you can get on a new car here in Sweden): 46000 euro/ 55000 euro/ 62000 euro. And with a difference that small, it's not much to think about in my opinion.

yea but i like to be realistic. prefer the s versions of all audis. better consumption..smaller engines wich means smaller taxes..plus the fact that in my country i dont even have roads or space to drive an rs.

In what country do you live? In the part of Sweden I live in, you could buy a medium size house for that kind of money. The annual tax for an RS3 here is around 200 euro, and 150 for an S3, so it doesn't really matter. It's a bit more expensive at the gas station though.

Schwabo i picked navigation small, bang and olufsen, led lights, rs sports exhaust, 5arm rotor design wheels black, sportseats with red stitching. Those are the biggest parts. And a few small options

I prefer to have some functions controlled by switches, or knobs, rather than have an all-digital interface which takes one's eyes off the road more. Another well done review of a car that I was waiting to see an evaluation of.

Well done Autogefühl!! This is the only hot hatch I like, along with the BMW M140i and the Ford Fiesta ST!! These seats look ace, although I'd like them to be available in alcantara with this rhombical stitching! The sports exhaust is definitely an extra feature to spec, and the extra carbon ceramics surely do reduce unsprung weight, along with the new aluminium engine block, so I feel its front end is going to be a bit more lively with the carbon ceramics!

My only gripe is the drivers seat support. Coming from a focus ST which has some of the best reccaro support I was a little dissapointed with the RS seats. However saying that, it's a better car in every way.

In Denmark after 4 seconds fun then the highway max of 110/130 is reached. Expensive for 4-5 sec of fun. Viele dank Thomas

Thanks, but I think I'll pass. I'm currently owning my 4th Audi (or 6th VAG product) so I don't see myself switching to Bavaria anytime soon... Although the M4 or even the M2 do look like some really nice cars. I admit to have taken a glance at them more than once. Also, for the Scandinavian climate I prefer AWD just to get about when others are stuck, and Quattro can be fun in the snow, too ;)

Problem with Audi is they're getting way too overstyled in areas were it doesn't need to be anymore and charging way too much for extra goodies. Think the Concept Quattro from 2010 was a missed opportunity to market 5-cylinder's full potential for the brand. Dash cabin is neat and tidy but also ageing well. MMI knob has camera trick wobbling effect there ( 9:23 ). Only reason to get this car is because of that magnificent engine, such a fantastic soundtrack ( 19:25 ) and ( 26:24 ). Fab review Thomas.

Though the intro music was bit scary, Nice review Thomas. One short question regarding this horsepower race. The greens are complaining about pollution and the governments are planning to ban diesels. Can’t it be possible for the companies to provide the horsepower with a switch else it show be a normal A3. Of course with the same cosmetics? Just thinking.

I can understand why Audi would not want Volks to have the 2.5 for the Golf R. Would be hard to justify the price difference. But then why not let us have the hatch in North America? That is a beautiful engine.
