We been driving steel beam guide rail posts on 4 lane Highways for 20 years and they have to stop a high speed car so I doubt if they will be having a problem with a few solar panels

What size is that system Scott, I would guess about 24KW, an 850 foot run that's going to require some serious trenching. I hope you and your crew provide a follow up on this job, stay healthy and safe!

I've said it before but I'll say it again, the drone shots really add a LOT to your solar job videos! The driver turned out to be a great tool looks like! Thanks for taking us along.

Looks like you have some very capable people on your crew, that in and of itself is a mission accomplished. If y'all ever get out in the great state of Pennsylvania area I'll keep my eyes open for y'all. From a tech who puts together pieces other tech's thought were from a different puzzle, (it ain't bragging if you can back it up)

A pile driven install will need a soil analysis to see if it can support that kind of setup!

Sylvain Maher we pile drive all the guard rails up here in hickville Maine. Never had a issue, this is not skyscraper construction. You must work for an engineering Co. That does business with any Gov.

Off topic, I was just thinking about you today while in the grocery store. Bought some oreos and remembered a video you had done many years ago when you vacuumed some in a mason jar. Have your kids broke into them since the covid19 issue and were they still fresh?
@engineer775

Those cookies never made it made it to covid-19. We open them up 14 months after we vacuum packed them and they were perfect. We continue to use this simple process to pack everything from cat food to cereal.

Have you looked at the the Diamond Pier system? No I am not a vendor. Just seems like another cost effective way to mount posts
@nssherlock4547
@nssherlock4547 4 года назад
We make screw posts for a solar company, here in Australia,they are put in with a 2 man petrol auger, much cheaper overhead than a skid steer with attachment. No trailer needed to tow skid steer or such .These are also used for foundations on a house only difference is they pump some concrete down the shaft.Also wortth a look is ute/pickup truck mounted driver that pushes large diameter square or round fence posts in.

Wouldn't something like a Mega Anchor be the fastest way (doesn't require a machine): ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Q_9nRlVG0jA.html Here's an example of it being used for a solar rack: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-foAZJx-sOiA.html They are rated for 30kn and cost ~$30-50 each. My guess is you need less than a dozen. There's a few systems like that in NZ/AUS - I don't know why it isn't more popular in the US, all you need is a jackhammer or a sledgehammer if you want to save money on a gym membership ;) I could be wrong, don't know how much weight you have on there but there's also a heavy duty version rated for 60kn you could plop a small building unto..
@engineer775
@engineer775 4 года назад
That would take forever to build a ground mount that could hold 44 solar panels. We've built palmettos they take forever to assemble. That would be way slower than what we did.
@user-dj6ru1zw8g
@user-dj6ru1zw8g 4 года назад
Interesting. Well, I believe you. I definitely want to understand why that is however, if you care to explain further. As far as I can tell you'd end up with those exact same vertical beams just without a need for machinery, no? Maybe I shouldn't have said faster, more accessible to the avg joe rather. (What's a palmetto?)

@engineer775

Yes we have used Earth anchors and they still required some sort of tool to run them in?
@benssolarandbattery
@benssolarandbattery 4 года назад
SunModo ground screws CAN be driven by hand in theory. I'd only ever want to try it in sand. Our guy has a drill bit for them as well in case he hits ledge or large rocks he can just drill thru and still put the screws in.
