Great video on the Batea pan. They used them in Chile when I did an exploratory venture a few years back. They even had a wooden one that floated downstream to the mine site we were working. Fun tools to learn to use. The rocks in the pan weigh less under water which is why they are easier to remove when the Batea is fully submerged.

It's great watching this using the Batea pan for the first time video again. The perplexed look on your face turned to excitement. And now it's your favourite pan

Thank you Chris and Grizz! You guys have inspired me so much. I have watched your channel and learnt so much. Finally found a decent show of colour. Ran the clayish dirt through a 888 and panned out after 6 buckets. A couple of very nice specks as big as the ones in this video and a lot of fine gold. I only spent an hour there on Sunday but got about half what you got in this video. I got to give Busted Knuckles some credit too, for his knowledge helped me too!. Thanks again Chris and Grizz for showing me how and where.

Hey buddy. Just reaching out to say G'day. I've recently come across your channel (last couple of months) and been binge watching your videos more and more over the last few weeks and thought it was time to say hello 👋. I'm an outdoors guy thats always had a soft spot on fossicking etc but it had always been out of my reach to get started for whatever reason our excuse through life. Last year on our anniversary my wife and I bought our first detector second hand after wanting one for many years. We picked up a garrett At Gold in as new condition for less than a go find 60 😁 and instantly got hooked on relic hunting and even finding a 18k men's ring in a river. After watching your channel and several others, I've since got the bug on gold and moved onto buying my first pan kit and finding my first piece of raw gold in a pan last month. Yesterday I purchased my first sluice and waiting on delivery 😁 (6" gold rat backpack sluice with dream mat) We've been wanting to move towns for a while and now I'm researching more into, is there gold prospecting nearby? more than checking if its a good area 😂 I'd love to one day get into filming my adventures one day and looking at the quality of yours, 👌 I'd love to catch up one day to see how you do it all with the filming and editing, and also seeing the bits of info that I've seen so far about some personal battles you've encountered, I'd love to one day shake your hand as you're an inspiration to not only myself but I'm sure, many other people. 👊 Your channel is great mate and you've got 1 more dedicated follower 👌💪 Keep up the good work 👌

I've been planning to make a Batea since Dan's video. Just waiting to pick up the material. I measured Dan's at 135 degrees (off the video), but yours is 120 degrees. Easier to form. Between your video and Dan's, I'm convinced I want to try this. Hopefully. I'll have one made before the spring floods go down. Thanks for all the good videos, Chris.

Excellent review of the batea, answers all my questions about this pan. I used steel pans in the Dahlonega/Auraria area of North Georgia and would love to have used a batea, but would not have known how to correctly use it as you demonstrated. They seem to be hard to find in the US. Your videos are very informative and great fun to watch. I have to hit the subscribe button.

If ya' question whether or not you're working a batea pan correctly, hold it with your fingertips, (don't pinch down with your thumbs), and feel for material passing through your fingers as you maintain the vortex instead of stopping and allowing material to settle. Keep the pan flat, submerged and the water moving until you don't feel grit and, you'll be left with mostly clean gold.

Watching you work creeks reminded me of a guy I met from the states that came here to prospect and one of his methods for gathering finer gold was he would pull the reeds/weeds from the sides of the creek, make a fire and sit corrugated roofing tin on top and put the weeds on-top, the weeds would eventually burn off and any gold that was stuck to them would fall into the corrugation. I can't remember if he got much gold as that was 25 years ago but I do remember him getting gold. PS. Bought your book, Look forward to reading it.

Hey Chris, the betea style pans that i have used tend to be shallower/less steep of an angle than that one. They are much easier to use in shallow water, fast in reducing cons, but hold less over all. It would be interesting to compare the two.

Have you ever tried panning on a mountain gravel landslide? I'm going to give a panning a go at a place called *gold mountain* 4h away from where I am. The village in the area has 1-2 guys that seem to control the gold operations there. *in the mines* Hoping to pan up the dried up riverbed in the area *if i can find it* and the sides of the mountain. I usually classify on site then pan near my place. Hopefully get a video in the process with some gold :D
