Bus Stop is defo in my all time top 3 funk tunes. I still recall picking up their “Raising Hell” album in a second hand store next to the cinema in Colchester one lunchtime and it blew my young ears off. It's got such a hypnotic, energetic drive, like no other song I can think of. A groove which immediately hooks you in. When I got the multi I have to admit I was a little disappointed it was absolutely exactly the same as the record, same length and no extra stuff at all. For some reason I imagined Bus Stop being much longer than 4 mins on tape with other funky clav and synth parts, but no. I have subsequently wondered if any unused stuff had been erased. This can sometimes happen when the engineer who is doing the copying is instructed by the label/artist to make the parts they give out to remixers are exactly the same as the record. I can understand why they do this, there might be some stuff recorded onto tape during the making of the song which they definitely don’t want used by a remixer, so its easier to get rid of everything than the mixer use the wrong vocals etc. After I’d got used to the no extra stuff situation I came up with what I thought was an interesting new intro using my favourite solina part and then holding back the bassline for a while. I’ve opened many sets with this remix and never had a bad reaction.
