Early 18th century. England is at war with the French. Nevertheless, duck racing and pineapple eating are thriving. A frail Queen Anne (Olivia Colman) occupies the throne and her close friend Lady Sarah (Rachel Weisz) governs the country in her stead while tending to Anne’s ill health and mercurial temper. When a new servant Abigail (Emma Stone) arrives, her charm endears her to Sarah. Sarah takes Abigail under her wing and Abigail sees a chance at a return to her aristocratic roots. As the politics of war become quite time consuming for Sarah, Abigail steps into the breach to fill in as the Queen’s companion. Their burgeoning friendship gives her a chance to fulfil her ambitions and she will not let woman, man, politics or rabbit stand in her way.

Without the type of cinematography used in this film I'm sure it would feel way different, it definitely added a sense of absurdity. The set design probably wouldn't have appeared as lavish either.

The best cinematography of the year. It really enhances the film and the story of the Favourite. It is not there just to be "pretty"...The award season has been very unfair to this film in regards to direction and cinematography. The promotion of the film by Fox has been very poor IMO.

I wouldn't say unfair since Roma is a very well-shot movie, but The Favourite did have my favorite cinematography of 2018. I feel like without the unique visual presentstions in both Roma and The Favourite, both would have felt like very different movies; Roma's cinematography isn't the way it is just to be "pretty."

@@visualsforyou7120 Actually it is. Especially the fire scene that is sooo unrealistically made up. Everything was made to look nice.

@Efi Billy Alfonso Cuaron has stated why he chose the visual style he did and that he intended it to affect the story. Anyways, even if the visuals in Roma are purely for aesthetic, that doesn't make the cinematography any worse.
