In this house, we stan Alrick Timmens. Edit: Owen Dennis confirmed that this video is what they were going for. twitter.com/OweeeeenDennis/status/1363260767798140929
never really occurred to me that Amelia has been dealing with sci fi technology for 30 years and probably has no sense of how far along real technology actually is. I'm imagining her getting off the train and reflexively looking for tools and circuits that don't exist like an astronaut forgetting that there's gravity.
That would be kind of a good end for her story, coming back to earth and being a pioneer in this ridiculous technology getting support and admiration from everyone, finally being able to move on and happy to see that the world finally has changed and accepts her for who she is
Certainly makes me wonder is she'll even want to leave the train. She's missed so much, and I could see her not wanting to go back. Going back would be as disorienting as it was when Alrick passed away, all the things she's gotten climatized to on the train, now it's all different. And it might be best she doesn't knw of the changes. I imagine she'd become depressed, feeling like she's wasted 33+ years of her life on the train trying to achieve the impossible when the world was changing for the better. This is a case where ignorance is bliss BTW not seen book 4 so however this changes I don't know
@@22Tesla s4 doesn’t seem to touch Amelias future much, at least from what I’ve seen, not completely sure tho, still, I get your point and like it quite the bit, hopefully she’ll get a good ending to her arc someday
I'm so worried for Hazel. Amelia is very unlikely to be any kind of mom, let alone the one she needs. And she's already been through the wringer already. I can't see her story ending the same way that Lake's did, she has no connections outside of the train in the first place after all.
@@rhymebeat1142 Hazel was at a really low point in her life at the time and so was Grace. Hopefully Grace met Amelia at some point before leaving the train and talked shit out with Hazel. Their argument was a misunderstanding.
Can't believe you didn't mention this, cause I thought this was a huge clue into the dynamics of Amelia and Alrick; but in the scene where we're introduced to Alrick and they're kids, Alrick has a silver spoon in his mouth. Then immediately Amelia is dismissed and Alrick gets the A+ on his work. And then a little later on we see Alrick and Amelia both having silver spoons in their mouths in one of those flashback stills. Maybe this is just a british idiom, but someone 'having a silver spoon in their mouth' generally means they come from a life of privilege and don't understand the struggles everyone else goes through. (Usually it's a class/wealth metaphor, but Alrick definitely has privilege over Amelia by being a dude in the 60/70's) So Alrick seeing the struggles of Amelia with his silver spoon literally in his mouth, and then sharing that spoon with Amelia is a very quick visual cue that Alrick shared his privilege with Amelia from the get go! That definitely could be something she has to work through with her discrimination trauma, that she can handle the world on her own standing because she's capable of generating her own privilege just as much as the privilege Alrick gave her wholeheartedly when she needed it. I think she's definitely got that, and more cause she's a badass engineer, but she might need to accept it herself before she can go.
What upsets me the most about season 4 being the last season is that we'll probably not get one where Amelia is the protagonist. I was hoping that S8 would bookend Amelia's story and end with her finally leaving the train, after spending the entire series making amends to get her numbers down.
Here in England our school years are as follows: Primary School for 8 years these are Foundation 1-2 and Years 1-6, this usually begins at 3 years old and ends at 11 years old. High School goes on for 5 years which are years 7-11, this will be ages 11-16. College is roughly 16-18 but can be attended at any age then university is an option afterward.
I'm just glad that I got it right, but I needed to keep correcting myself. The original script kept saying "college" when referring to their older years, needed to mentally check myself and change it to "university". I'm pretty sure it's the same in Paris as well, so I guess the USA just had to be different. Like they do with literally every scale of measurement.
@@ToonRuinsOfficial They majority of colleges have a casual dress code unless it's Sixth From which is high school pursued further for roughly 2 years. Primary schools usually have a smart/casual jumper with the school's branding for their uniform. High School will have a formal blazer and tie as uniform. Just thought these would be some things for you to keep in mind. :)
Wow, England has quote a different schooling system then the US, ours is elementary 1-8 which is approximately from age 6-14, highschool is 9-12 age 14-18 and afterwords college
I don't know how relevant this is, but in train terminology, the title of the person who pilot a train is "engineer". "Conductor" is the one who control your ticket, help you with your baggages, signal the closing of the door, and basically is there to help passengers come in and come out. Bu above the Conductor, there is the real person in command: the Engineer. That we have yet to see.
Thank you for pointing that out, it’s very interesting! While One-One is in full command of the train, he’s never referred to as being the Engineer, just the Conductor. Maybe he’s both? And Amelia seems to be working for him, so she could be his secondary Engineer I guess. One-One’s role is much closer to that of the Engineer, since the train cars are created either by him or Amelia, so I don’t believe that there’s another being with authority over him.
@@user-oq9pz6tt9x you forget an engineer is in charge. A conductor has rights to lead and mesh lines. The engineer steers(I know it's a train and it's on a track but my point stands) So if the conductor/ers Stray off a certain margin.then the engineer steps in. . Can't have 2000 passenger when the train is built to hold 580. . Maybe the apex was a cause for this. . Maybe Amelia is the engineers choice to provide a chance for the conductors to redeem the damage they caused. Ie. Reducing the damage caused or people held back.
It's sad that feminism has become a laughing stock due to those who used feminism as self-promoting or self-aggrandizing. Amelia's character is an example of feminism being implemented skillfully into the narrative
I mean there are still issues regarding equal rights with men and women so with there being feminists now makes sense. But when you see the crazy ones it’s only pointed out more by media
@@moonlight_oats .. are there though? What legal right do men have that women don't? Feminists try to only make points for social ones... which isn't really a thing controlled by a system of men. Not to mention women have the same high powered jobs and can have whatever they want if they try just as hard.
@@sircasino614 no, there's a lot of discrimination going on, from women not being employed (even if they have the skills) because they have the possibility of getting pregnant, from women's reproductiob rights being threatened every year by crazy evangelical people. There's a lot
@@sircasino614 just because there isn't a law that says "fuck women" doesn't mean that misoginy stopped affecting society. Especially in US, the neoliberal capitalist hellhole
@@marlboroprime657 You listed 2 and they aren't really legal related. The reproduction rights thing has been secure for many decades and that thing about work rarely if ever happens. So.. I feel like I need something more substantial for it to feel relevant to today.
Amelia would probably be in secondary school in that clip as primary school kids dont tend to wear blazers and instead wear jumpers/cardigans/dresses particularly colour coded to their specific school (mine used to be white shirt red cardigan/jumper to which it would also be appropriateto wear a white and red checkered dress) then when you go into secondary you usually have to wear a school blazer which usually has the schools logo now and sometimes is coloured too depending on the school. School uniforms are usually designed by the school (and can cost a fortune sometimes) thats not going into the scam that is secondary school pe kits. 15 pounds for a pair of socks that are mandatory and really short shorts all school branded so you have to pay.
Mini rant: my secondary school changed the PE kit three times in 3 years which my family could barely afford, especially since I’m the only girl child out of my siblings so I’ll be the only one wearing it, but it took them 3 years to decide the put trousers on the school uniform list because it took them a long time to ‘find the right style’, yet they messed it up so the waist was too loose and the length of the trousers stayed the same. So many people couldn’t even wear them because of the sizing, and if they did, they had to wear safety pins to hold them in place that opened up when they sat down
Meanwhile, in Australia (at least from where I am in Australia), we say 'primary school' instead of 'elementary school', but we also say, 'high school' instead of 'secondary school'.
@@seekingabsolution1907 As far as I'm aware High School in America is more what we'd call College or 6th Form. In the UK when we do use High School it's usually refering to Secondary School which I think is just a misunderstanding
Or, like in the LEA where I grew up in England, we have First School, Middle School, and High School. Because there wasn't a nationwide standard back in the 80s.
Character development is not simply the the meat and potatoes of what makes a good character, but the full course meal. When done right, as Infinity Train does, it becomes a fookin' FEAST!
Am I the only one who wishes women could/would propose to men? Like as a guy I’d love to be proposed TO instead of being expected to be the one to do so
While I don't think Amelia and Hazel will be the focus of Book 4, I am very excited for when we do return to their story and see how it progresses for both of them. Excellent video all around
i think book 4 will be really interesting, hazel losing who was closest to her and finding a way to cope and move on matched with amelia's own loss; it's almost too perfect. it's pretty much all i think about at this point..
I'm glad you addressed that people who dislike children shouldn't be mean to them or say horrible things about them. If you feel resentful at children because of societal pressure that's something you have to work through in private, it shouldn't be normalized to say horrible things about children even if you don't want them or like them.
Instantly subbed. This is one of the best analysis videos I've ever seen, and I love how Infinity Train has the depth and writing to stand to that kind of scrutiny.
Amelia being childfree and staying childfree is actually so important. If we do see her and Hazel again they better not make Amelia "maternal" or anything like that, if her arc is becoming a mother figure to Hazel it ruins a big part of her character
I personally don't think her arc is headed towards her becoming maternal, but part of her growth will involve being able to respect children. Children are not the one's at fault for her oppression, but she lashes out at them and uses the fact they are children as a derogatory thing. I believe if the show continues past Book 4 and we get more on Amelia and Hazel, it'll be more of an angle of them both becoming more happy to be alive and healing rather than of mother and child.
I mean I get what you’re trying to say, but Amelia treating a lost child with love snd respect won’t make her “maternal”. If anything, it shows growth being on the train. It’s not about “being maternal”, it’s about her making amends (through deleting her cars), and moving on from her past traumas, and letting Hazel in doesnt make her “maternal”, it means that she’s finally seeing the value of another person and in due time, I hope we get to see the relationship between Amelia and Hazel grow, as they are parallel characters who both lost everything. I think people are viewing their relationship from a one dimensional perspective because Hazel is a child, but I think Hazel will help Amelia figure out how to work through her trauma and knock down her walls. Personally, I love the pairing and can’t wait to see more from them. As a general PSA, I think we should stop seeing women with children as inherently maternal, especially a set up like Amelia and Hazel, where we will probably see them rely and love on each other due to survival rather than “maternal instincts”. And I can’t wait to see Hazel grow into herself as well💖 RIP to a real one Tuba tho😭😭😭
@@AestheticGamer treating children respectfully without insulting their intelligence would be a great theme, since that’s exactly what Infinity Train does so well!
as of book four, does this mean around 1986 Ryan and min got on the train? because in one of the episodes of book four (i can’t remember the name) the steward is controlled by Amelia and she makes a train wide announcement and then proceeds to uh.. take their shoes? so.. guess we got that ig
Yup! Owen Dennis confirmed that Ryan and min were born in 1966, and they were about 18 when they got on the train, graduated high school in 1985 (see the sticker on the back of Ryan's van) making it somewhere around 1985/1986
11:45 That actually not a Magnavox odyssey. That's 100% an Atari 2600 and the game on the tv is a real game! Circus Atari released in 1980 so it shifts the time Amelia was with Alrick before his death. They may not have actually gotten married.
One slight error, UK universities aren't the same as US ones in the length of time you study. They are often significantly shorter. So they are more likely 21 or 22 when they graduate.
Hey everyone! I'm extremely appreciative for all the love on my song! The clip here is actually an unreleased demo. Planning on finishing it up and releasing it soon! Perhaps I could mayyyyybe be coerced to drop the demo on soundcloud :)
Hey all! I know a lot of you are asking about the song used in this video, this is the musician who made it! Show some love on this comment so that we can perhaps see the demo released on Soundcloud. Also I'm a big fan of his music in general, so you should totally check out his other songs in the mean time. 👀
I have realized that complex and flawed female characters are my absolute favorite. I love Amelia and really hope she finds redemption and peace, regardless of whether or not she gets off the train.
This is an amazing analysis and I'm glad I found this shared on Twitter. I need to watch more of your past videos now as I love deep analysis like this. Keep up the great work!
Not only is this an arc that not many, if any, had picked up prior to this video, this is a fantastically detailed video that flows so smoothly and allow for a comfortable, entertaining viewing experience. You did a fantastic job on this, Toon Ruins.
This is an amazing video and makes me love Amelia, Infinity train and everything involved even more. Your content is great and I look forward to your content every upload
This was so in depth. Including so much more context in terms of everything we've seen in a show despite it being very minimal. We were definitely robbed of an Amelia dedicated season.
im american but i was homeschooled so i don't really understand the american grade system and i also don't understand the english grade system so that part was very fun
Bruh, just shouting out to say this intro really freaked me out because i watch a ton of Markimoo vids too and i thought i clicked the wrong freaking video. You really had me in the first half, not gonna lie.
This is a really great analysis and explanation. This video made me like and respect Amelia's character so much. I didn't observe all those subtle background details. You did a great job of explaining womens' life in the UK in 1960s-1980s. I thought women in the west were treated equally as men in the last century unlike India. But this video made me aware both were very much the same. Thanks for the great video. ❤️🙏
Not saying that Amelia and Hazel won’t appear but the two characters that the Book Four teaser seems to be promoting two kids named Billy and Ryan so we might need to wait to see where their story goes later on
I thought youtube was accidentally playing a Markiplier video for a sec there I was like "Not again yt, I've already seen this video I want to watch the infinity train video"
