Same, got it when I couldn't find my E12 V1 for a few weeks. Paired with an Eneloop and they are both solid performers but I really like the upgraded beam pattern. Never thought I'd actually care about something like that lol.
Yeah E12 V2 is the best single AA EDC flashlight. It has all the basics u need, it's waterproof and very slick quality. And very small and light too and suficient powerful for basic stuff.
This is actually them going back to how (some of) their lights operated more than 10 years ago. Sounds like my original Fenix LD20 from 2008. I might try to get one of these. 🙂 A lot of companies moved to separate side switches specifically to separate mode changing from turning on their lights. What’s old is new again haha! Yeah, I hate that this doesn’t have tail “wings” big enough to allow tail standing.
Right on Martin, sometimes it takes moving away from something to realize we need to go back. Hopefully it is the same with being able to tail cap stand because to me that is a no brainer want for lantern mode.
i dont mean to be so off topic but does someone know of a tool to log back into an Instagram account?? I somehow forgot the password. I would love any help you can give me!
@Brady Kyree thanks for your reply. I got to the site on google and im in the hacking process atm. Takes quite some time so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
This is a nice light that almost nails it for me. I really like the fact that it's 2xAA's but only slightly longer than some 1xAA lights. It also has good mode spacing. However, the non-tailstand is a serious ding. The extended runtimes on this would make it an awesome candle during power outages. Also, I wish Fenix would add firefly or at least a 1-lumen mode to more of their products. It's so helpful to be able to have a really low setting in the middle of the night when you don't want to ruin your night vision or wake others. Maybe they'll get it right on v3.0?
@Nat Sarim Not really. 5 lumens is nice for some things, but overkill when you wake up in the middle of the night and just need to take a quick look at something close-up or light your way to the bathroom without disturbing others. 1 lumen or less is also desirable when you don't want to kill your night vision. Keep in mind that some people are more light sensitive than others (i.e.: those with blue eyes like myself). BTW, I did end up buying this light because it's so good in most respects, but I use some of my other lights when I need firefly mode. To solve the tailstand issue, I'm going to have someone custom 3D print me a little tailcap stand for when I need a long-lasting candle.
Agreed. For my needs, a firefly and tailstand are a must. Love fenix quality and buttons, but this model doesnt yet cover my two most typical uses, so I have to pass on it.
Love the video you make sir!!!! Because of ur video i bought Fenix LD30, PD36R and TK22UE. They all perform like you said in ur review!! Awesome fenix light!!!
Nice Darren ! and thanks for sharing that with us. All of those are great flashlights and soon I will be making a video on what are my favorites. I am glad to be able to help people get a good look at a product before they buy.
I just bought this for my elderly mother as an EDC. I wanted a simple flashlight with no side button or specialist rechargeable battery (E20 is well priced too). My first Fenix was the the LD20, which I got in 2009, however the switch got rather sticky after a few years and I replaced it with a Nitecore MT2A, which has been a great EDC and I've been using it for around 10 years or so since. I'm not a fan of the twisting heads, which both the LD20 and MT2A have, and side buttons or charging ports could be potentially problematic. The E20v2 is very compact and a very simple yet rugged design - we hope to get years of use from it
This member of the Shack West crew carries and uses the Fenix PD32. Use it regularly and finds it t!o be a great tool! I am sure that the E20 V2 would be a good tool as well. - SB
Thank you for the awesome review! I own around 14 Fenix lights, starting with their T1 in 2008. They used to have quite a few 'Reverse Clicky' lights during that time. However, the one reason I'll never buy one with reverse clicky is that you simply could not use it for momentary on/off at the time. I love that function in all my lights. I hear the current reverse clicky, including this one supports momentary on/off with reverse clicky. So perhaps I'll give it a try.
Thanku for the review. I purchased a Nebo redline flex and i love it. Ha 6×zoom, magnet on the base and 3 steps with stroub. And a rechargeable battery with a usb charging cable . And a side clip for pocket or hat
The ease of going through the different light beams is a wonderful feature, like you I can see that being able to stand it up on its end would be a great asset especially indoors during a light loss. It looks really comfortable to hold in the hand, so helpful to allow the other hand free. Another excellent review Charlie, I could even use it while holding onto things to get around, its light enough for that I believe. A great Not Thursday review and thank you. Good luck and love and hugs to you and NinJen Mary-Ellen LFOD
@@NotThursday I have always loved the Stealth Diggers and the Not Thursday videos Charlie. They are very special to me as you,NinJen and the crew are too. Thank you for your lovely words, I appreciate you taking the time in your busy life to talk to me. Love and hugs, good luck Mary-Ellen LFOD
That is why I love the Fenix FD20. The tail cap is similar to your flashlight but what makes it unique is a 360 rotary focusing ring for spot and floodlight adjustment, which is awesome, especially for the type of work I do.
Another great review! I have the E20 V1 - fewer lumens, but a traditional deep, smooth reflector so more throw. It's a bit longer and has the same sort of interface, with light presses on the tail switch to change modes. But the earlier version IS tail standable. It's an attractive light too, although it lacks that lovely copper bezel found on many of the newer Fenix lights. Still a great AA light. The V2 looks interesting!
Thanks Jeff, I have not owned the older version. I like the fact you can tail stand it for sure, The flood on this really is really nice and at the 350 lumens does a good job for not being so much of a throw.
@@NotThursday You're welcome. Yeah, the choice of throw vs flood is always a personal one. I like both types - it just comes down to which one fits the needs of the moment! The new version being a bit smaller and offering more flood makes it a compelling offer, even for someone with the old version - you'd just use it in a different manner and in different situations, as they are very different lights. :)
I will definitely be picking one of these up! Fenix is my go to brand but I also really like Eagletac. I have two of the Eagletac D25A2s and one D25A and both of which operate identical to this but with a bit more programmability and tailstanding.
My first "real" light was the E12. I bought the E12 V2 recently when I misplaced the other one (which has since been located!) I really love the copper bezel/glass lens and the even beam pattern. It's good for reading labels etc. I know a lot of people complain about this but I actually WANT my lights to start out low every time. My eyes are light sensitive, especially at 3 am and I'm still half asleep. Also, I think Fenix makes these with medical professionals/first responders in mind who need to check the pupils of patients. It's much safer to always start low. I'm also a big fan of the tail switch, it's super convenient when you're grabbing it off your nightstand to go deal with a power outage/random bump-in-the-night/etc. I'm having a hard time deciding between this and a right angle light. The new HM50R V2 that clips into a headband looks really tempting.
The HM50R is what got me looking into Fenix. Wanted a sturdy USB C rechargeable headlamp with red light. Having the removable option and other features is a bonus. I'll be ordering one but now I'm looking at dropping some decent money- 2-3 headlamps, 3 flashlights, the keychain light, one or two camping lanterns, and accessories. I like having backup AA lights for head and pocket just in case. But the HM50 headlamp looks amazing for general use, and the TK20R V2.0 is impressive for an emergency/ search rescue or outdoor safety light with its incredible throw and relatively small form, plus tons of accessory options. Cool stuff!
I have the new E20 V2 and the E12 V2. I noticed that the E20 has bit of greenish tint whereas the E12 pure white. Not sure if yours are like that. I like the tint of the E12 V2 better than the E20. I'm glad Fenix at least keeps the low at 5 lumens and not moving the low level up like they have been doing with some of their bigger newer models. I have yet to buy one of the bigger units because of the low level at 30 lumens.
One of my favorite 2AA lights, I have 2. I can live with the non standable tail cap, but fenix, mode memory would have made this light perfect. Though I like it a lot it gets a ding for that.
lol, I actually want my lights to start out low every time. There are exceptions but for what I use them for I don't mind bumping up. Also, I think Fenix makes these with medical professionals/first responders in mind who need to check the pupils of patients
LD22 version 2.0 have the memory mode and burst mode of 800 lumen with the specific battery (provided upon purchase) looking exactly similar in proportion and design with this E20v2.0
Awesome review man👍. I’m in the look for a double AA flashlight. Basically all mine are rechargeable. Got a couple questions if you got time to answer them. 1st does this light have a battery level indicator? 2nd what is your favorite double AA battery flashlight? Thanks. For your time and video!!!
The best buttons? Well that definitelly goes to Klarus ;)... Fenix is a great brand too, but the versatility of Klarus, especially the tail switch with a pedal switch + side switch also is simply outstanding 👍
Thank God it doesn't have Outdoor and Tactical mode as the LD22, that's terrible... Cleaner and easier design, the E20 v2.0 is much better. I might get the "lil sister" E12 for 1x AA use. Do you recommend it? Thanks a lot.
I bought a few 4Sevens flashlights, and they're having problems. And there suddenly seems to be no company to stand by the product to provide some help. So I paid upwards of $70 for disposable flashlights. I'll be sure to stick with established companies such as Fenix from now on.
I got this one 2 months ago and I have to admit the Alkaline (included and additional good ones I tested) don't last even close to what the table said. In fact I pretty sure the table in the web and the one printed on the box is wrong, the alkaline and ni-mh numbers are inverted. For this reason I go back to my E12 V1 more often, since battery life is better (only fewer lumens ont he high side). Also the first two settting on the E20 V2 seems like warm light, but the highest ones seems like a cold light.... thats pretty odd.
No. I checked into this myself and they are indeed different sizes. However, you could rig your own tailstand fairly easily - the tailcap just needs to sit down inside a properly sized short sleeve with a flat base on the bottom. I'm actually going to have one 3D printed that I designed myself.
@Sven3xs Of course. I guess I did read to fast and just thought memory not momentary. Also this is a stuipid question because if you see the video you can see that its goes on momentary.
They also force proprietary cells for their lights too which imo makes them a no go for alot of people cause why should you limit the customer what cells they can use cause their cr123 lights can't use anything but proprietary surefire branded cells they can't use 18650 cells without modifying the internal body for its space, and even their "standard" cell lights suffer that same issue aa light needs disposable cells or surefire branded aaa light disposable or surefire branded sorry but surefire needs to stop doing that nonsense cause it only makes people not consider them over other brands.
Mike Pringle, I have never had a Fenix switch fail and I use my lights all the time and under rough conditions at times. All the weather that you can think of, salt from clearing ice/snow, to anything else, and I have yet to need to pay $260 for an overpriced surefire pocket light that targets the government with those absurd prices.
@@MemphisMojo15s I can attest to the tail switches being durable i've owned a pd35 since 2014 and 2 E12s one from 2018 and 2019 and they've been dropped put through use and no issues either.
