The Few Limitations of Smeargle 

It’s so dumb. They literally fixed the issue with making it Darkrai exclusive move, but no they had to destroy it completely. They were not thinking at all

When was it removed? Darkrai has it in Legends Arceus.

Hypnosis in vgc is seen as a bad move and just used because there is 'nothing better I can do' (IE gothitel who just wants to be there for shadow taging). Similar logic to ting lu with fissue. Darkrai has better things hed wanna do though

@@cryochick9044 Right now in VGC it has a 0% chance to sleep anything at all because since Gen 7, you've had 0 way to get Darkrai into a game where VGC is being used. On top of the fact that Smeargle can't use it anymore. So even inside VGC. If Darkrai was legal. If it's gonna use a sleep move, Hypnosis is a better chance at 55% accuracy. Your math is banking on 50/50 odds twice. Which if you don't know, is still 50%. It's not 50% + 25%. It's 1/4, both miss, 1/2, one hit, 1/4, both hit. If Darkrai became legal tomorrow, because it's more than likely competing with Yveltal for that coveted dark sweeper role. Whoops we're not playing Darkrai and it's getting thrown in the bin. Since Darkrai currently is "how fast can I hit and how hard do I hit?" And when the answer is both answers aren't as good as they used to be in restricted formats. It's not as good as it used to be.

The best way to fix it would hve been to prevent Smeargle from sketching several signature moves. Dark Void has a niche use case since it can't be Magic Bounced which it shouldn't.

Reductive game balancing will always be so weird to me like it feels so nonsensical how can a whole studio make such an obvious mistake?

nowadays theyll coerce you in feeling the missing out culture so that way you're convinced it's normal to pay for subscriptions online.

@@ridermalak3291 Pokemon Classic Network. It allows the DS connect to it so you can play with other people also using it, even when the official servers don't exist anymore.

This seems so likely, honestly. I bet developers were just sick of making sure it was balanced for VGC and decided to keep it under the bed.

I'm convinced that Sheer Cold's Gen 7 (and beyond) accuracy nerf when used by non-Ice types is because of Smeargle, too.

Plus the devs don’t care about singles so why bother about the mon you banned from your golden child’s stage when you can just go and screw over the move

@@unnamed7485Revival blessing isn’t that crazy in a well built team it can get destroyed before the move is used and even with a huge moveset their isn’t much to prevent that

Ah yes, I too want people joining competitive games to scream racial slurs via Smeargle and to go back to when Smeargle could put half your team to sleep. The nerf to Dark Void's accuracy is bullshit, though.

If you don’t see the problem with dark void smeargle I doubt you’ve played vgc. Literally everything else is legal except some legendaries just use those

​@@CrunchyDark explosion on a smeargle was proof that, at the very least, its moveset was gained illigitimately. If someone is cheating their moveset, Its doubtful all their IV and DV and EV stats are unmodified

I really think it's because it became a nightmare to balance around. Gen 6 was super smeargle heavy and they nerfed darkrai entirely because of it

Nah, because Smeargle was too busy using [relevant sleep move] and then either spamming buffs to pass to a teammate or side transforming into a boosted teammate (in Gen 6, often Geomancy'd Xerneas) to use either of icy wind or Glaciate.

Iirc aura wheel when hacked onto other mons works. It just has flags that prevent those moves from calling it. Then wtf you talking about starmobile?

@@CanisMythson Why would I say that? It was Se-Jun Park. I was in an interesting situation and ahead of the curve and had the ability to get a JP Darkrai the day of release. Anyone else could have but they didn't. After that it became dominant because it was more readily available and obviously broken. Why is that so difficult to believe? Or do you think Smeargle isn't the reason Dark Void was nerfed? Because it very much was.

Dark void tells me vgc. Baton pass tells me smogon ubers. You would never use dark void in singles as it is outdone by spore.

In VGC it a good move to have on Smeragle. In VGC you face again two pokes. Dark Void had the ability to put both Pokémon too sleep at the same time, because it had the ability to target both opponents Pokémon. Spore only targets 1 Pokémon at a time. It also HIGLY spamble, so you basically have a good change of winning the game out right.
