Today was the last day of 3 days long 52nd Rose festival which is being organised at Rose Garden from 23rd Feb to 25th Feb.
With host of colorful and fulfilled cultural events, like folk dance, photography compitition, flower show, police band performances, festive food stalls and musical evenings, there is very special event dedicated to Bonsai Competition... as a special part of this Rose Festival 2024.
Mrs Rupan Deol Bajaj who is a former and distinguished IAS officer and also popular as “The Ficus Queen of India” is one among the most distinguished bonsai artist of India. She has around 800 bonsai trees in her collection and has given more than 36 years of her life to her passion for bonsai.
The Bonsai means Tree in a tray. Bonsai is the art of preparing miniature trees. It is art married to horticulture.
In this annual event of Bonsai Competition, which has just become an essential part of Rose Festival, around 200+ trees are from the vast collection of Mrs Rupan Deol Bajaj, who is a retired IAS officer and is former Financial Commissioner Revenue, Punjab.
In fact with her participation only, in this very special event, dedicated to Bonsai, this event could have been a realty as part of Rose Festival years after years. This year she participated in 13 categories and won 13 1st prizes and 11 2nd prizes.
