I am happy to see that the killer lions of Tsavo exhibit I worked on in 1996 is still the same. We updated it in preparation for the movie “The Ghost in the Darkness” by adding thorn bushes behind the lions. The thorn bushes were taken from trimmings from trees in Grant Park. We added long thorns to the branches by gluing painted toothpicks to them. The lions could not be moved, so we had to climb inside the case and paint around the lions. This was done during museum hours and I still remember hundreds of school children banging on the glass.

Thank you for the tour. I have not been to this museum since the middle 1970's . I lived in Milwaukee at that time. but now Milwaukee is going to have theirs demolished . Such a shame that the building is falling apart. Much of the exhibits will not make it to their new museum, which is smaller than the other one from the 1960's . So much will be lost.

Never heard of this before, but I would love to visit. You went in during daylight and came out at night. Definitely would have to go at 8 am to see everything. Lol My favorite would have to be the Malvina Hoffman exhibit and the shrunken exhibit. The Malvina Hoffman statues were absolutely beautiful and was done in good taste. I don't see them as racist at all. It's other things that I saw as racist, but had nothing to do with Ms. Hoffman exhibit. I am super surprised to see all the Mold-a-ramas!! And they all worked!!! Lol Thanks Jacob!! Looks like I've added another place to visit on my Carpetbagger list.

If you get caught up under Chicago's oppressive weather while on a trip and can't do what you planned - hunkering down in a museum is better than hunkering down in Macy's. You'll learn more and probably spend less. Consider bringing some deli sandwiches or something because the food options are just not good or are overpriced inside the museums, not the city specifically. I have not been since COVID and they used to be weird about backpacks and NO lockers. Check about current conditions. Parents of young children, diaper bags and strollers are your salvation for toting things backpacks would be used for. Ladies...use your big old lady Mimi purses. Hopefully they have changed their rules on backpacks. You can easily spend a whole day and only see a fraction.
