Gary Oldman in this movie is the best villain that the hero of the film never fought. Also we get 2 actors from "Friday" in space, so this movie rocks for multiple reasons.
Leeloo is the hero of the film, and her and Zorg do have a scene together when he is shooting at her and takes the empty case. The film is named for her!
I've watched both Friday and fifth element a ton of times and i obviously know the actors but while watching the movie they're so good as their characters that i forgot in that moment they're in both such different movies
I can't believe MK Annihilation is the best episode according to Tony. That's how I discovered Rental Reviews and, hence, introduced me to Hack The Movies on 2021. Keep it up!
The guy in this who was in Alien 3 is the same guy who says “There ain’t no bat” in the beginning of Batman 1989. Oh and an Alien 3 corner has my vote 🤚
The Opera scene with Diva Plavalaguna really stands out in this movie. It kinda lets you collect yourself after seeing a lot of scenes with snappy dialogue or action.
Did you know Luc Beson was dating the opera singer, but started cheating on her with Mila ultimately ending their relationship and then he married Mila?
I remember watching this movie in the cinema instead of Speed 2. I love all the characters, the sets, creature effects, and action sequences. I always loved Ruby Rod. Super Green.
Family movie night it was the fifth element at the theater or con air and speed 2 double feature at the drive in. Con air made it worth it but speed 2 was still awesome. Sad to have missed this in theaters. My sister and I have been devastated we didn't see this as we are both big fans.
43:17 “That guy” is BRITISH trip hop/electronic musician Tricky who was the front man for Massive Attack. You probably know their & his solo music: the song Overcome, the theme to “House”, the theme to “Luther” among many many other songs.
Real talk: when I was in the 5th grade this guy came to my school for an anti smoking assembly. There was a whole part about subliminal advertising in movie to promote cigarettes, and the end of this movie was one of the examples. The whole thing with the match
If anyone is wondering, Fifth Element is really inspired by legendary french illustrators Jean Jiraud’s work better known as Moebius. He also was inspiration for the look and detail of Akira.
It is too bad that Netflix Cowboy Bebop series didn't have the budget for it but I always thought the Fifth Element was a good blueprint (for look and tone) for a live action Cowboy Bebop film.
I never thought about it before but you're right. This fits the same future feeling and everything, all it's missing is a noir undertone and space dogfights.
Definitely one of my top 10 movies of all times! I know most people think "Blade Runner" when they think of Cyberpunk things ,but I automatically think of Fifth Element! It's esthetic just sticks out!
Yeah one of the artists for Heavy Metal magazine collaborated with the director I guess. But yeah the Harry Canyon sequence from Heavy Metal totally was a inspiration for this movie.
Watched this for the umpeenth time last night for the 25th anniversary. I realize how old I'm getting in that 25th anniversaries now include movies I remember driving to.
Also, they changed their personalities and backgrounds - comics Valerian is more of an awkward dork and isn't the smarmy Casanova-wannabe in the movie, and Laureline is a plucky medieval thief who got recruited by Valerian (Galaxity uses their FTL to also police the timeline), and they're both way more personable (and she's the badass of the two).
Love this movie. My dad took me to see it in theaters and he left his car lights on so we had to hang out for hours in a mall parking lot until we could get a jump. Good times.
In post soviet countries this movie is considered classic and cult status. There is almost a tradition for many people to watch it on the pre New Year evening.
lee loo was alive and walking around on the ship, her hand was holding one of the handels of the case when she died, when they are taking the case to zorg you can see one is missing
I don't know if Hack the Movies has reviewed it, yet but I really want them to review Con Air. That movie is underappreciated and so good. That's some good Nic Cage action there.
That part always kinda stumped me as a kid. I always assumed that one guy was bleeding from his head, because the evil they face is beyond human comprehension. Then again I haven't seen fifth element since I was 10.
It had to go cause James was bad at it and Tony decided to make a better show with him hosting on his channel. Realize, this channel is not cinemassacre...
Remember it was cancelled right in the middle of the initial COVID pandemic shutdowns. I think that made getting together for reviews difficult. They tried "skype" style reviews for a bit with James at home and the guests on computer screens, it didn't work that well. As I recall, the whole "Rental Reviews" concept was something that Justin created. I don't think James was ever all that passionate about it or cared about it much, which is clear by how short and abrupt some of those reviews were. About the only thing I miss about Rental Reviews, as opposed to Hack The Movies, is James' awesome basement movie store set. But Tony's show is fun. And fine.
@@GusFogle yeah, I guess I had some selective memory about those later episodes. It all worked out I guess since this is essentially the same thing with longer discussions minus the subscriber count.
You guys kill it love the show thanks and this version is way better. The lady's are such a great addition for a new input & material. Major improvement
Good thing Tony & Johanna are protecting the stones while talking about the movie. That way Leeloo Crystal & Justin Dallas can fight off the wacky aliens.
I remember that we rented this movie for New Year's Eve one year, and I remember really liking it. Idr what my Dad thought of it. I dont think he hated it, but I dont think it was more than yeah that was a pretty cool movie. I'm guessing my mom thought the same thing. I dont think I've sat and watched this movie since it was on tape, but I remember liking it. President Tiny Lister.... I love it lol
I thought Chris Tucker was hilarious in this. Really can't see why James disliked his character so much. Glad you and Johanna liked it. I'm on board with your opinions. With James' taste in movies can't believe he was so indifferent on this one. I agree more with you and Johanna. Loved the video. Love all your videos Tony. Love all your guest too. This really is turning into my go to movie show. Thanks for the good content please keep on keepin' on! :)

As the self-appointed representative of the community, you may replace the Mac & Me Wall with the Alien 3 Wall... **As long as you** return Goldberg to his rightful place in the Nightmare on Elm Street section of the VHSs. Deal?
There's a singer named Dimash who can sing the Diva song better than the actual song. He's apparently able to do notes considered physically impossible.
Doesn't the great evil in this movie wanna destroy life? I thought that's what it said, which would imply that it wants to go anywhere where living beings populate
