The current Ebola outbreak in West Africa began in Guinea in December 2013. From there, it quickly spread to Liberia and Sierra Leone. Cases also appeared in Senegal and Nigeria, and there was another outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Today, Liberia is at the center of the epidemic, with more than 3,000 cases of infection. About half of them have been fatal.
As President Barack Obama announced that he would be sending American military personnel to West Africa to help combat the epidemic, VICE News traveled to Monrovia to spend time with those on the front lines of the outbreak.

I really respect about that guy saying that. Atleast they are trying all they can do. The hospitals are full and there are not enough doctors to face the disasterous disease. They all need to get their act together. I do not think this kind of fear is enough to activate them. After all, it was 2014, I wonder what they are doing about it today.

How tf is it like Ebola, it’s an entirely different virus. Ebola is 10x worse than coronavirus. Coronavirus is a easier way of explaining it is like the common flu, but it is just a more aggressive type. As long as you have a proper and consistent hygiene, you will be fine.

There is 7.7 billion in the world and only 20-30 people have died which have been mostly the elderly due to their immune system being weak and 800 - 1000 people are infected. Paranoia gets the best of people I guess.

This country was set up by former US slaves, the capital Monrovia is named after US president James Monroe. The former slaves did their best to impose their American ways on the locals. Speaking English was one of the things they tried to impart on the local population. That was one of the first hurdles in Liberia's troubled history.

It was good that he told the reporter in a very objective and impacting way what he really needed to hear, basically stop snooping around and go home, this is not the place for you. At 7:47 when he was considering to go talk to the group of people that were vomiting and having diarrhea around the place I facepalmed so hard, like, "wtf man, are you dumb or what?"

i think it's because ebola virus only infect if you directly touch a patient's body fluid such as bloods, vomits, or saliva or smth like that. it does not spread by air

It has to be able to travel without being attached to water droplets. Aerosol spray from caughing and sneezing falls to the ground max 2 meters from the person infected.

I have never seen anyone so compelling to listen to as Dr. Mohammed Sankoh when they ask if they can enter the treatment center (23:44). He instilled the fear of the virus so clearly when he spoke of removing the protective suit. I truly hope he is alright and that the aid he wanted for his people was not too late.

Covid-19 is SERIOUS!!! And not just dangerous for the elderly!!!!! I am a healthy 23 year old athlete and it almost killed me!!!! Actually research it don’t be a freaking idiot. Covid 19 causes puss pockets in your lungs and people who die literally drown because their lungs are full of fluid. Pneumonia in lungs is clear and kind of looks like a spider web. Covid-19 is white and you can’t see through it because they are full of mucus.

@jordan belfort because kids can have weaker immune systems that cant fight against Corona. If you acctually look not just come up with theories, then you will see that people who are over 70, young kids (or babies) and people with critical illnesses, are vulnerable because of their weakened immune systems

@jordan belfort Mate, I live in England, and we have been getting live updates by NHS everyday. And from what they're saying is that the scaring on the lung tissue is there because when you have recovered from Corona, your immune system is weaker. Leaving other bacteria to take over your body which is causing permanent scarring on the tissue which can cause long term illnesses or most likely death. Now you have a point, but people who have a strong immune system only have a 2.4% chance of dieing. If you do a deep deep deep web search you will acctually find malaria, Ebola, measles and even chickenpox have more chance of killing you. So those people who are healthy but died to Corona must of been unlucky. Maybe they had a severe case where they had shortness of breath. Sorry that this is a long paragraph just want to clean the air.

This was the most disturbing and upsetting report I've seen on vice, I couldn't help but cry when I saw the infected people laying in the street too sick to move and no one there to help. My heart breaks to think of the children lost to this cruel virus. My love and deepest respect goes out to the brave people who work for doctors without borders, we need more people like that in the world.

The only reason ebola killed "only" 10000 people in Liberia instead of tens of thousands is because of the healthcare people. I would honestly would never want to do their job, but they are brave enough to take the risk.

Ebola has 40 percent mortality rate , rabies has 100 percent mortality rate . You die if you get rabies , no treatment

It isn't 100% anymore...it is very close though...they have what's called the Milwaukee protocol and has saved people infected with rabies even after they showed symptoms which used to be a death sentence

VICE did a documentary in June 2014 about Ebola there, the people seemed clueless and didn't believe it existed. Fast foward months later, the story clearly changed! They should've interviewed the people that was in the original documentary, I'm sure their opinion changed!

I was in the store this morning, and even with as low as some stocks are with the corona scare, I thought, "we still have so much more than people have in stores in former communist countries" and these people dont even have clean water or hospitals, garbage trucks to tote their crap away..proper sewers.. I hope americans who always complain about America can start to really appreciate just how insanely lucky we are, and I especially am lucky because I dont have to worry about job security or getting evicted..my belly is full. I can flip a switch and have light. I can turn a faucet on and drink the water.

I admire the attitude and outlook of the workers because they were entering a war against this horrible and very contagious disease but they maintained a commitment to their people, community and country.
