This really blew my mind because I always look at it like it's a movie but it's not, if someone gets hurt no one calls cut, the dead will not get up after the scene because they are *really* dead. I can't believe what it must feel like to stand there with a sniper somewhere not knowing if your next breath will be your last.
Luke Lemmons Exactly, I kinda get angry with myself because when I started watching this Dispatch playlist I was getting excited, all the protests, wondering what crazy thing would happen next. Then when I just stopped for a while and noticed this is real life, that it's really happening there, it feels awkward.
+Luke Lemmons I saw a documentary where a guy ran from centrum with a stretcher (a portable bed for hurt people) to help a friend, and as soon as he arrived to his friend with the stretcher he was shot in the head.
It makes me angry and sad knowing that there are people who Meme wars such as the Bosnian War in witch hundreds of thousands died for no reason, saying Serb is Strong and all that bullshit, it's sad and heart breaking knowing that i lost Half my family tree to this useless war. I was in the capital city but i did suffer many wounds as a little child living in a war forsaken country. I can't get excited over stuff like this because it reminds me of days where i had to run from street to street praying to god a sniper won't shoot me in my little 5 year old head...
I heard there were some rebel medics helping wounded police forces. Don’t know if that’s true or not. The police were known to shoot at the medics. There was one medic trying to help a rebel but he was shot and killed.
@@theamericanpatriot2015 so it was. the doctor is not looking at your position in the battle he helps everyone. he took an oath to help everyone. unfortunately, the police oath forgot to serve the nation police chose president.

@@biggycheese4443 Ummm dude? Do you know what fucking going on in Hong Kong? They may not be using rooftop snipers but instead the Chinese military wearing police uniforms have already shot and killed a few protesters. Not to mention the Gangs they have attacking innocent civilian.
Thanks alot for this reportage. we ukrainians can't defeat the russian propaganda and hordes of trolls alone. this video maybe the most precious gift for the new year for us. Thank you guys! forgive us for inconvenience. we had no choice. peace to you.
+Ivan Salenko There is something I do not understand, as a Belarusian. If you cannot achieve what you wish to achieve by yourselves, why do you deserve it?
As a native Kiev citizen I can say that this is the most precise report among others that I've seen so far. It's brief but precise. It covers mostly Maidan but all what happened after it is also greatly mentioned and now being covered in "Dispatches". Thank you Vice.

don't be an idiot, it has already been proven that snipers were on the part of the protesters, they did it to anger the crowd and they didn't care who they were shooting at. And the US has instructed these actions.

VICE I guarantee this whole coverage you have done on Ukraine will be looked upon in the future as something great, keep giving people REAL information like you always do unlike the mainstream media who covers nothing in 2 minute clips. Vice thank you, you are the new platform for real, objective journalistic news coverage in my honest opinion! Keep it up!
It’s sad watching these old documentaries and remembering the VICE was once a genuine leader in the documentation of world conflicts and did genuine journalism
I remember watching livestreams of Euromaidan every night after work, when it was happening. Truly a mindblowing time we live in.. RIP to the fallen Ukrainians
Murdered by Putin and his corrupt, pro-Russian lackeys. It is a sad day when anyone fighting for their freedom and children has to give up their life. Now Europe stands with Ukraine more than ever
I don't care how much you think X country is better than Y country but what it comes down to is the people believing in one thing or another in that country getting shot to shit. I don't care about America's involvement, Russia's involvement, whatever. My heart bleeds for the people.
The East of the Ukraine is where Russian speakers live who hate that nationalistic government which forbids the Russian language, they get oppressed and there is war.

Hello from Myanmar, I am crying while watching this. This is exactly same as our situation now after military coup on Feb 1, just that we are still protesting peacefully but military use guns and violently, 27 dead today alone and thousands injure😢. I don't want to lose more life 😢and want this thing to be over asap. I have a headache as I am typing now from tear gas today on the ground. #Whatshappeninginmyanmar
The Berkut were not a police or a military force. The Berkut were monsters. These videos, as well as the Winter On Fire film show just how powerful the people of any nation can be if they work together. It's really no surprise that the president stepped down. The protester's sacrifices will never be forgotten. Slava Ukraine! From USA
@@sosaboi1352 Berkut was a special police force. What they won't tell you that 20 Berkut officers were shot dead and 150 wounded with firearm, most likely with sniper riffles. Don't you think it is kind of weird that Berkut guys were shooting themself ? Or maybe there were protesters shooting them down?
It is a goverment overthrow, not a revoloution. A revoloution is more than a president/leader getting thrown off, but also a major change in the ideology of a country. For example, the change from Monarchy to Democracy.
well since the goverment in ukrain is changing the constitutoin albeit to an an earlier version it is technicaly a revolution "A revolution (from the Latin revolutio, "a turn around") is a fundamental change in power or organizational structures that takes place in a relatively short period of time. Aristotle described two types of political revolution: Complete change from one constitution to another Modification of an existing constitution." {classics.mit.edu/Aristotle/politics.5.five.html}
Peace to Ukraine. Hope you pull yourself's out of this, and I wish the best of luck to you all. What was once a peaceful protest, became something more violent than I have ever imagined happening in modern day times.

A revolution IS a war. A "war" is a conflict between people. Regardless if it's two nations fighting each other, or the people of the same nation fighting each other, or the citizens of a nation trying to overthrow their government - if people are fighting and killing each other, it's technically a war.
God bless America and Ukraine against Russia a dectatership regim From Sudan Africa we also made revolution against a dectatership regim Now we restore Democracy in Sudan
"Cease fire" = stand still, with some combat. Frontlines have been established in most parts. Fighting is generally indirect fire / scouts wandering too close and getting caught in an ambush.
I was actually in Ukraine when this whole thing started. I was 11 years old in Ukraine in January 2014 to visit my grandmother who died from heart disease. My dad told me he saw protests and not too violent protests on the streets
@Josef Mengele They are both built on lies. the difference? one is degenerate ( America ) while the other kills civilians deliberate ( russia ) and wants to expand its russian people by killing others and making fake referndums. at least america government does not have fake elections. I would rather stick to a degenrate country than a murderous one
NO, the heroes ARE DEAD ask them! Is Ukraine any better off, NO, are Ukrainians any better off, NO, is corruption still there, YES, and the government is in the hands of the corrupt. Now their leaders want more to die while they sit at home with their families. Is the Government leaders at the Donbas border in a trench with a rifle in their hands. Instead of standing with them why not go to Ukraine and join their military and go to the frontline. Oh, hold on brown and black people are not exactly welcome there. Don't glorify war.
Those 'heros' are literally neo nazis. Svoboda, right sector, and other far right groups were literally wearing Stepan Bandera pictures and wolf angel patches
Besides all the people shouting about Nazis, and Russians, and wither they are good or bad and what not, I'd like to thank VICE for the amazing coverage they've done throughout this campaign. Their reporters are some of the top in the world to go where go and do what they do. Hats off to you VICE, thanks alot.
From Crane Brinton, "The course that Revolution seems to take: 1. Impossible demands are made of government which, if granted, would mean its end. 2. Unsuccessful government attempts to suppress revolutionaries. 3. Revolutionaries gain power and seem united. 4. Once in power, revolutionaries begin to quarrel among themselves, and unit begins to dissolve. 5. The moderates gain the leadership but fail to satisfy those who insist on further changes. 6. Power is gained by progressively more radical groups until finally a lunatic fringe gains almost complete control. 7. A strong man emerges and assumes great power. 8. The extremists try to create a "heaven on earth" by introducing their whole program and by punishing all their opponents. 9. A period of terror occurs. 10. Moderate groups regain power. The revolution is over. " Most revolutions follow this order. Some of the steps can be skipped (like number 8). Therefore, generally, there can be mini revolutions when there is one revolution (3 and 7 in particular). If you want to find out more, just search Crane Brinton's Anatomy of Revolution and it should give you more info.
Agreed, though you could consider the Whiskey Rebellion to be a miniature Reign of Terror to prove that the United States had authority. For the bloodless revolutions, there are a few, like the Glorious Revolution in Britain, however you could consider that really to be step 10 of the English Civil War. Ultimately, there are generally at least three government changes in a successful revolution: 1) The overthrow of the old Government 2) The Revolutionary Government 3) The Moderate Government Then sometimes a figure will arise and has the backing of the people. These are generally law and order candidates, due to the instability of the Revolutionary times. These can create dictatorships or authority based governments (like Napoleon III). What prevented this from occurring in the United States was that Washington stepped down after two terms, and the other presidents followed Washington's legacy (with the exception of FDR, but I am not going to go there). Ultimately, a leader will need to step up about the situation that has support by both sides. The problem here is that the two sides are very fragmented, therefore unity will be difficult. From the exit polls, the "Chocolate King" (as Vice likes to call him) has won the election, so I hope that he will be able to defuse the situation and then does not try to overreach what he can do.
I could not hold back my tears when the crowd said "everything will turn out well" in front of their fallen people murdered by the regime. In Hong Kong, we are encouraging each other by saying that "I hope we can take off our masks and meet each other outside of the Legislative Council building once this is over". The government's absurdity is escalating as we speak. A few days ago, a female protestor had her underwear ripped off and her private part exposed in front of the camera by several police. Journalists are being shot, beat up and harassed for no particular reason by the police. A local White pastor was interrogated by the police simply because he was sitting outside in a rainy day. (the Chinese government insists that we're backed by the US) Not to mention all the unlawful shooting, arrests and infringement of human rights. And the craziest part is that a lot of our own people actually choose to turn their heads away from these monstrosities and choose to believe in communist propaganda. The Chinese people are also angry with us and blame us for not embracing the almighty communist party and spam our social media with shitty messages... Our cases and situations are different but we are drawing inspirations from Ukraine. We are grateful for each and every Ukrainian freedom fighter's effort.
@@waluigi43 Do you even know what are we protesting for? We are not protesting for independence, we know that it is not feasible. We are protesting for our rights that we rightfully should have in accordance with the Sino-British Joint Declaration, against the misbehaviour of the police and actual democracy.
Glory to Ukraine, the men and women who lost their lives to fight for their country’s freedom are truly hero’s. May they be remembered by the people of the world for generations to come, Rest In Peace
Seeing this was really intense. I remember back when I was 10, my dad used to work for an organization that gave support for the poorest people in eastern Europe. Me and my family were invited to go there(my dad went often). It really was a nice country, which you could see was actively developing. This was in 2013, just before hell broke out in the eastern part of the country. I didn't know much about it, but learning about it now, I'm very shocked that I was that close to it. Now that I'm older and understand such issues, I see Russia, where corruption and democracy are running hot aswell. I'm scared that if Putin goes mad, Europe and America will pay the cost of his actions. Let's all hope Navalny takes the throne from Putin and restores the country.
Brave, brave people you are, guys! You could be an example for any other country whose citizens should fight the intern corruption. I just watched the Netflix documentary about the Ukrainian Revolution and my respect for the people who ve been there can't be any higher right now. Slava Ukraini, Heroyam Slava. Greetings from Romania
There are so many corporate leaders and capitalists that have a similar estate as that of Yanukovych that it really shouldn't pass as a museum of corruption, unless you want to call capitalism a form of corruption.
Yanokovychs' salary as President was $25,000 a year..... How was he a capitalist, unless you call being President something one would do and expect to make a huge profit from it....
I would most definitely expect great profit and power from being the leader of a nation. Yes an estate like that is cocky, but really it's not a symbol of corruptness. The documents provide the corruptness part.
So fucking brave people, fighting till this day, we'll be with you guys soon if your war continues, i know its careless to be commenting this but theres countries showing aggression at this point a third world war is just lingering. kinda scary as we are in 21st century and we thought were living in a good time, but its difficult to ignore
coming back to this video 8 years later to make sure I was remembering this all right. how did these events lead to the current war any thoughts? i think this is an important time to look at.
11:53 For those who don't understand, Ceausescu was the Romanian communist president, and the last ruler under communist Romania. He was executed by firing squad, hence, Yanukovich following Ceausescu would be for Yanukovich to be killed by firing squad.
