Remember the first commandment love the lord your God with all your heart. You love God first, you put him first, you obey his word first, he is first and above all. Second commandment, love your neighbor as you love yourself. God gave you life and those within your life. Gods word is true and pure and is meant to protect us and guide us in this life and to show his love towards us. Your parents could be wrong as you’ve stated in the question, but Gods word stands and will always stand. The fifth commandment is you honor your mother and father. So before you jump ahead, think of what commandment came first and consider the order given for each one. This is a good question and there is some confusion at times but we must look back on Gods word for teaching, correction, reproof, righteous training. We can always look back to what God has said or see into the lives with examples of the men in women written about in the Bible to see Gods order and judgment and love and so forth.
