These governors are very shameless and greedy. Most of them are underperforming and stealing their state yet they can't pay reasonable wage. Their allocations has tripled.yet they can't pay.
Even most of the people in Edo state, don't even appreciate the good work of the Governor. When others were paying #30,000,Edo state was the only one that paid #40,000.Now he is paying #70,000,Edo people are ungrateful 🙄 to the Governor
Minimum wage in Gabon is around 350 000 Naira, shame on the so called giant of Africa. With all what Nigeria has as a nation, every worker should be paid 500 000 Naira, but few criminals have made Nigeria their personal property.
@@johnarogunjoBut our source of income is more. We have more natural resources. Believe it, our government can afford 150k as minimum wage. The government should reduce their salaries
The Nigerian labour Congress and TUC should reject it. How much are politicians earning and what value do they bring to our society other than line their pockets.
Please what about we the private workers what impact would this minimum wage have on us? Cos we work from Monday to Friday nonstop and we are under-paid...what should we expect from the government? is there any favourable policy for it to guide the private sectors on this? Perhaps this is a pressing issues as we work like elephants and eat like ants which is very unfair..we are all citizens of one nation for crying out loud.
Come to think of it, do the president, governors, ministers, commisioners, and so on, not working for the government? Their salaries should be calculated using the Minimum Wage template too.
Minimum wage in Algeria is about 400,000 naira but up till now Nigeria is struggling for 62000 naira and life is more easier in Algeria than Nigeria what a shameful giant.😂😂😂
The Barrister and the other gentleman have said it all. Even though Tinubu is liberalizing and decentralising things. Federal government is beign burdened with somethings that should not be on the exclusive list. I expected Chief Olùṣegun Ọbasanjo to have practiced complete true federalism when he was Executive President of Nigeria. Most of the problems we are facing today would not have arised. For example, the Boko haram terrorist would have been nibbed in the bud by the State concerned in the north if we were practicing true Federalism. Those who were behind such terrorists whould have been unmasked and dissuaded. That's because true Federalism engenders competition among the state, so no state would want to be left behind its peers.
What a joke, recklessness and wickedness. What will be left for development indeed. 😅😅😅😅😅😅😅. They should save our country and stop saying that they can not pay the living wage
Why are you relegating your own traditional medicine. China appreciate their herb and it works . All you need to do is nifdac to organize them and make sure it's work
The government wants to spend 92 billion naira to sponsor hajj pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia, but don’t want to pay basic minimum wages of 62,000 Naira (about $40) per month. Ummm, shame on the government.
I swear to God my company paid me 2300 euro every month after tax as a car Mechanic compare to where i came from Nigeria, even when I'm in Nigerian to get 5000 naira every month it is very very difficult for me. So if have the opportunity of Japa please do but make sure you have a good handwork or you can have something good that you have learnt because this country called Nigeria is not given at all Ireoooo
Moderator, whoever that told you he or she got less than #70,000 after deduction is a lair and enemy of the good Governor of Edo state. After deduction most workers get #70,000 and above.i don't know why people are not truthful. Moderator, try to do a proper investigation as a journalist before saying something you not sure about on air.
These Labour Strike will destroy Nigerians mostly many Politicians will be killed some will collapsed. Please what NLC will focused on Federal Government is to reduce OIL price between N100 to N150 then selling and buying in Markets will come down.than demanding N250,000 as basic salary because that is not solution, what will happen to 80% of Nigerians who are not working under Government, but they are foundation of this Countries growth . If the Market traders and Skill workers added more money in their products and goods, You Will notice that N250,000 basic salary will be Seen as N25,000 basic salary does that make a sense? No!
This shutting down of the national grid is the problem... Abi? How many times, only this year has the grid collapsed? Was anybody accused of felony? ... Nigeria we hail thee!
Sir where were you, when Nigeria mandate was stolen through the INEC and judiciary to Bola Tinumbu APC. With people like you there is hope for common Nigerians.
turned what city into Dubai... Lagos is nothing like Dubai.... even though they've spent way more than what Dubai spent in turning there city to an international hub..These ppl need to start visiting poor areas, schools, hospitals b4 speaking in public.. do they even match there performance with world stats n rankings.. or match performance as yardsticks against fellow oil opec exporters.... instead of fixing refineries to increase n maintain output, you want to build phanthom coastal roads... gezzzzz!😢😢
School and University fees differ in this country. Institutions are now charging whatever they like. School fees has doubled or more than doubled in some institutions!
I knew the minimum wage trajectory in Nigeria has never been in tandem with our economic realities at every point in time as one of the speaker pointed out. However, the agitation for huge minimum wage from 2019 to date was as a result of brazen and reckless cost of governance at all tiers of government excluding LGC who are render lame by their respective state bureaucrat. Until both the executive and legislative arms at all level come to terms with realities and cut down expenditure to the bearest minimum only then organized labour would accept their economic thinking sorrounding the minimum wage issue.
If you allow governors to negotiate minimum wage. The governors will arm twist labour in the state. Even if minimum wage is made to be 2000 naira, some governors will still not pay. It's a matter of will and not resources.
but dem dey reserve millions for allowances God forbid if u have the chance to leave this country don't think twice o leave instantly no redemption for this country o
They should restructure & drop those government workers who only take salaries every month but does nothing, I know some government workers who goes to work only ones a week or two weeks, millions of workers are receiving salaries from government while indulge in there own personal businesses, increase salary & sack unproductive workers.
We praise dishonest and selfish politicians in government for having the political will to inflict pain on Nigerians through subsidy cuts, while at the same time feeding fat off our meagre resources and maintaining their oppulent lifestyles. Until we deal with this "slave mentality" in our relationship with the government, we're going no where.
Let the excess money from the subsidy removal be used to pay workers directly. Or let all all allowances for senators, minister, aides, governors, be removed
@@wellswaterllc-ji7nl who is Peter Obi? He must be the president of Nigeria? no he is in senate president? No I'm wrong, he is the speaker of the house. Congratulations cows, you have crude oil in your mouth.
6 digits or nothing less the politicians should cut thier take home .pay for it to work .200 to 280 k is manageable . .then follow up with drop of high taxation, polce check ,fuel hike ,market inflation, open boarder
The State Governors have over time, proven beyond doubt that they individually and collectively constitute a very major cause of the socioeconomic backwardness of Nigeria and Nigerians. It's so shameless of them to be mouthing that they would spend the entire monthly allocation they get from the Federation account. This exposes them for their lack of creativity, lack of willingness to expand the revenue base of their States and curtail or at the least minimize the level of funds diversion that they indulge directly and/or indirectly. With all HE Mr. Peter Obi had shouted "From consumption to production", these Governors are not ready to actually get serious and work.
Even prisoners are receiving 1500 food daily. But workers who pay house rent, electricity bill, school fees, transportation etc will live on 2k daily salary. A very provoking society and people are thinking whether to move on with the 2k daily wage.
One only hopes that those who haven't reacted in a negative way to Tinubu's liberalism are not going to fight back and let him give us true federalism as it was with our foundig fathers of the 1st republic.
Expecting private sector and state govs to fix d minimum is a waste of time as they hv always behaved like that each time d wage is to b fixed. So fed govt and organized labour shld go ahead and fix d wage, but still carry them(private sector and d govs)along. This has always bn d case anytime d wage is being fixed.
If the minimum wage shouldn't be federalized( every State should pay what it can) then the private sector should pay what they can.Why should the private sector determine what the minimum wage should be?
I agree with you a bit considering our peculiarities, but the current format is the best way to get a good deal for everybody although I admit it has its disadvantages because it presuppose linearity among everybody. The economic condition in every state is not the same. However you also need to consider that states in Nigeria don’t have full financial autonomy. The federal government still monopolizes all the economic levers which shouldn’t be so this is why in the real sense national minimum wage make sense.
The point raised about the manufacturing sector... can't we see that there is a deliberate move to cripple this sector in Nigeria? A robust manufacturing sector will lead to a robust economy. In fact, this should be the focus of government and labour unions because even increasing the minimum wage is just concentrating on consumption. Our leaders are just distracting from the main issues and doing the bidding of their neocolonial masters who want us to remain in their clutches.
An adage says we take out certain part of a meat to eat it. If the sacrifice we make to get REGIONAL GOVERNMENT is to give Ashiwaju 3 tenures, so be it 16 years as prime minister of Nigeria is no problem so long as all regions regains it's independence and exclusive ownership and control of their resources. All these haggling for minimum wage won't ever have existed if the country operates a regional government. So, I support the bill for REGIONAL GOVERNMENT.
@wilsonogunewe, Bro, what makes you think, that 90 year old cargo will last for 2 terms talk less of 3 terms? Nigeria has become a shit-hole country for dreamers. Come on, let’s be realistic for once for god’s sake.
The organised labour should issue a statement to all her affiliates, prompting them to prepare for the mother and father of all strikes as the govt is just playing with themselves.
