I just want to thank all the people who have watched my video. I didn't expect a lot of viewers (especially in the US where I am from), but I am glad Mr. Berger is still beloved in Europe, Asia, and South America where most of the viewers are from. A big thank you!!
I came across helmut through his relationship about Marisa Berenson. When I googled his pictures,I thought WOW! That's a really GORGEOUS man with such beautiful features that put the likes of DiCaprio and Pitt to shame (never really impressed by them anyway) Helmut is seriously underrated.
I heard about him by reading an interview with Marisa Berenson where she states he was the love of her life. They must have been the most beautiful couple in the world...
I've known him to some degree since I was three years old. Luchino did not bring out the best in him in personal relations because he (Visconti) was very jealous of Heli's attention. That's my take from when I was a child, and as they say you can't fool a child. Heli was always very nice to me, but then I never wanted anything from him except company. So we hung out in clubs and stuff like that. He didn't drink or smoke too much or do drugs because he knew I didn't like that stuff or do that crap except for the occasional hash brownie. So my memories of him are good, but the past 11 years since I got married again I check in to see if he's alright, I usually get an abrupt "Yeah, everything's fine."
The Greatest battle, Great film !!! his first role i ever saw Die große schlacht von 1978, sehr guter Film !! das erste mal das ich ihn als schauspieler gesehen hab.
thanks so much for the video! as a new fan of helmut berger im glad to see this video and it gives me ideas of what to watch of him. btw how did you find the damned(1969) without the italian dub?? cos i cant find it on internet
Visconti actually filmed Ludwig entirely in English! Since it was an Italian produced film, it was dubbed in Italian. Giancarlo Giannini is the voice of King Ludwig (Berger) in the film. It would have been nice to have had this film in the German language, but not all the actors could speak German, but they could have dubbed them.
@andgodcreatedwoman I believe Helmut Berger is quad-lingual (German, French, Italian, and English), so it is a shame that they dubbed him. The DUBBED FILMS: The Witches, Dorian Gray, The Bloodstained Butterfly, Ludwig, Order To Kill, Beast With A Gun, The Greatest Battle, Mia Moglie è una Strega, and Femmes. 11 of the 20 films WERE NOT DUBBED and is Helmut Berger speaking in English, German, French, or Italian!! It is quite impressive! I wish I could speak many languages.
You can learn to speak several languages if you want to learn. Besides English, German, French and Italian, I speak Spanish, Portuguese, and Danish. I also speak Irish Gaelic, Scots Gaelic and Russian. My first language was Punjabi. I also speak Hindi, Urdu, Bengali and Sindhi. It only takes learning. As for Helmut's voice you can always tell, slight lisp. The only Germanic accent I ever found sexy, except later Christoph Waltz.
Heureusement, il me reste le 45t des "Wallace Collection" avec 'Stay', 'My Way Of Loving You' ....
Only familiar with Helmut upon his death. Ludwig 1881 is a great film which I saw confusingly thinking it was the Visconti version. Reading up on Visconti was fascinating, I'm trying to find the original English version of Ludwig online (free) but can't. Artistically Helmut excelled in biographical period films, most others he's pure beefcake & cheesy.
Great video! Why did Visconti dub him in Ludwig? Romy Schneider is Austrian too. The film takes place in Bavaria too. Wonder why they didn't film a German language version with subtitles?
I didn't realize til now that he was in all three movies that I loved in my childhood, esp. his submissive fragile gay part in The Garden movie I Hmmmm, I wonder how big his Helmet is ? :) :)
Xantylon74 Right now, he is technically still married to an Italian woman. He was once engaged to the American model, Marissa Berenson in the early 70s. And of course the love of his life was, Luchino Visconti. Yes, he goes both ways, which is much better!!
@@annikapc I don't feel sorry for Francesca Gudato, it was known at the time they were dating and then got married that he couldn't keep his trousers on. Or out of bed. Years later she claims that it was a surprise to her. I guess I've never needed a man so badly I'd overlook Behavior like that. Then he "marries" that idiot Florian Wiess, which was bigamy since he's still married to Francesca.
