Exactly it's not the speed at which something is played that makes it memorable it's the flow and the impact. Richie Blackmore does a solo on one of his songs that is just silence while he plays a few notes at a time.

I don't know the musical word for it, but the sound the trombone makes on the notes marked with the three dashes is like, the best trombone noise. All trombones should aspire to making that noise at all times.

I think he's using flutter tongue. Basically youtrill your tongue, sorta like rolling an r sound in Spanish, while playing the note. Cool sound, but not used often cause it's hard to get full fat tone while doing it, so it's niche

I love the music bar. You can see each glissando coming and you can see how he nails it. You also see the interesting slurring of the same note. Both are very hard to do and as a trombone player, you don't see glissandos written into music until you get to higher levels. As a trombone player, the first time you play a glissando...not for fun...but actually written into the music...it is a great thing. Your feeling is "this is what the trombone is all about".

If anything, it should probably be transcribed into tenor clef. But in this case, when it's simply for us to follow along visually, I have no problem with treble clef to keep it within the staff.

As a trombone player in middle school, all I can say is wow. I find it hard to play fs that high but him going an octave higher?! That is inspirational to someone like me

I also played trombone in middle school, up to grade 7. Then some changing circumstances caused me to switch schools to one that didn't have a band program, and I fell out of practice. I also struggled with the really high notes. The most interesting thing I ever learned to do on a trombone was to sing one note while playing a different note.

I love how a relatively straight 4:4 makes it easy for the listener to keep track of the beat, allowing the solo to just go ridonculous with syncopation.

When I was in high school, our jazz band entered into the Essentially Ellington contest and Wycliffe came as a clinician to sit in on one of our rehearsals and give us some tips to improve our sound. Really nice guy and an unbelievably good musician. It was a true privilege to meet him and receive some coaching from one of the greats!
