This farm girl is TIRED. The sleepless nights waiting for a mare's labour to start...all while knowing that even the most vigilant watchdog can miss it entirely! Sugar is SO SO SO close, and we KNOW that baby is coming soon...
Join along in the adventure of this little farm, where we raise Nubian (and a few Nigerian Dwarf) dairy goats, along with our miss-matchy herd of horses. We are far from perfect over here, and aim to share farm lessons along the way!

Yes, foal alerts can be very helpful. However, I have only seen 'big time' breeding facilities use those. Ones where the foals and mares have pretty hefty price tags. For folks like us, it financially doesn't make sense to foot a vet bill just to be alerted when the amniotic sack is presenting. If we were to breed high quality horses in the future, I would definitely look into it more seriously! However, with the small scale that we are... we can't justify the cost to use foal alerts. Instead we do the good-old-fashioned checks, and hope we catch em!
