PLAYLIST OF EPISODES SO FAR : ru-vid.com/group/PLyuEmb1VavZBYp7n4IlzjEQb9JXdyCuM- Good day, Ladies And Gentleman. This is the final part 7. Would love to hear everyone's summary thoughts below.
I just wanted to thank WW2 Stories for this wonderful collection of soldier literature. I'm not interested in taking sides or making snarky points. I'm only interested in the human experience of war and these accounts, from the lighthearted to the horrorific, are among the best I've encountered. So thanks.
Finally a decent opinion of truth. No one can change the past, if it were possible than every single human in history past, present, and future would. If with open minds and learning from raw human experience we may in the future not have so much to wish to change.
Same here. Eloquent prose found in horrific circumstances. I have my view of the perpetrators, but I put them aside for the journey through hell on earth
This narrator rules. He’s added depth and has made compelling all the stories of French soldiers, German, British. WW1 combatants. WW2. I hope he knows how much he’s appreciated
@fergal2424 hahaha, I first realized it during another video where it kept pronouncing numbers oddly. Like a comment about 3000 troops, it said it three zero zero zero! Then some other offbeat things made sense.
These episodes have been brilliant, a message to those of us who have never experienced these terrible conditions and to the fools who romanticise war. Thank you.
These accounts of German soldiers have been very interesting. Very well presented and bad for my productivity. I just sit, listen and imagine being there. That hour just flies by. Thankyou for your efforts.
@taliabraver I agree. How would you even try to explain the reasoning behind what was done. But by listening to these accounts, you come to understand that most soldiers didn't make much mention of the genocide they were a part of.
My Uncle Albert served in the German Afrika Korps for 2 years and was wounded in late 1942. After recuperating, he was sent to the Eastern Front in early 1943. He was killed on December 13, 1943 on the east side of the Dnieper River and is buried in an unmarked grave near Ingula Kamerika, Ukraine. He was a war weary veteran killed at the age of 22.
Sorry about your loss. He was a brave soldier whose glory should never be allowed to fade. My grandfather fought in North Africa too on the British side 7th armoured "desert rats" A toast to your grandfather !!!
Its hard to even fathom the kind of bravery it takes to do what these men did on all sides. Rip hans roth and all the other men a women and children that died. These stories are fascinating its hard not to empathise with their struggles
@@ritamedina-molina8550 Not to me. In my opinion German soldiers were brutes and cowards who had no problem exterminating children. Soviet soldiers were true warriors who fought for their mere existence.
Love these stories as a American I hav always heard my grandfathers story about fighting these guys and Japanese this kinda confirms a lot about what he said fighting Germans was lik he always said great and brave they wer on avg an we would have been in reel truble if hilter hadn’t wasted so many of these brave and loyal guys and he my grandfather always said not all of them but a lot of them wer very honor driven wich is a something in short supply today everywhere
@@V100-e5q Listen up son. The Germans were fighting for NOBODY but themselves. They had no allies. Any country that tried to pull out of their relationship with Germany was ripped apart. When Italy sought peace with the Allies, the Germans occupied Italy, and murdered thousands of Italian soldiers in revenge.
@@gordonbennet1094 Romanians fight with Germans to eliberate Basarabia and Bucovina from the Soviet's, and they fight with Russia to eliberate Transylvania from the Hungarian rule. I hope this war will be won by Russia, that stand for morality and normality. #Z
@darklordeternal right now Russia stands for imperialism, totalitarian rule, killing civilians, deleting history(filled with lies and propagandain in the educationsystem), brainwashing, pollution, extreme nationalism, alcoholics, rapist, killers, unjust, silencing their own people, anti democratic, immoral, lyers and straight up evil. It's really sad actually, because Russia has the potential, but the government and a lot of the people have failed. Also, who tf said Romania is fighting with Russia against Hungary? But to be honest, I'm sure your just troling. Just had to put it out there so no one else falls for your bs.
Excellent narration! Makes such a difference listening to someone enunciate words correctly with no errors, mispronunciations, coughs, sneezes etc, good job!
This anynoumous soldier was very acutely aware of the sufferings that the front line of the German forces were living in for months at a time, never knowing when he would be replaced or how long the same unit's had to fight the brutal weather and constant attacks of Russian troops.
@@LTrotsky21stCentury The soldiers on all sides were victims of the failed leadership of their countries. The vast majority of the soldiers on all sides just wanted to go home and be with their families.
@@here_we_go_again2571 The vast majority of people murdered by the Nazi were innocent people. The Wehrmacht not only enabled that, they participated in it. When it comes to sympathy, Nazis get zero.
Listening to the stories of war, I cannot imagine that mankind has not come to a place of peace at any price. The cruelty, the insanity, the blood and guts of our fellow man. Who cares what the politics are? Negotiate! Compromise! Good Lord!
Interesting and informative. Excellent photography picture enabling viewers to better understand what the orator was describing. Professional class A research project!!! Special thanks 🙏 to veterans/civilians sharing their personal information/combat experiences. Differentiating facts from fiction. Fighting/perishing/surviving Knowing certain death 💀 debilitating wounds were oftentimes possible. That’s true grit style determination to succeed. For the German forces it was all in vain. As always the mentally debilitated military entourage in Berlin. Weren’t overly concerned about the predicaments. Pertaining to the eastern front armed forces. Remember the impossible air supply lift to Stalingrad.courtesy of mentally disabled👿👿 Goering. My-my what a traitorous self centered bunch of reprobates.
This is one of the clearest tells that this is a robotic voice reading and not a human: the negative sign is misinterpreted as a dash and ignored. No human reading the text would make that mistake, especially knowing the context as being that of the Russian winter.
I hear shit like this and I'm comforted that we're still some ways away from AI replacing human beings. All the technical work, and it can't replicate human emotion.
Sad story. Sad for both sides of the war. Sad for each individual. In all liklihood this guy would be age 100 by now. In the end we all die. One may think there is nothing to grieve - he is dead anyway. True. But what is sad is... 1. The circumstance of hate, violence and fear in which he died. He didn't die in peace. 2. The life he missed out on had he lived to maturity. Horror and waste. I have sorrow for this complete stranger to me. I hope my mourning for his loss somehow brings comfort to him now.
A sad and desolate end, one shared by millions on both sides. Moral of the story: stay the hell in Germany, no matter what stories they tell you and what adventures you think you might have.
I had a feeling this guy was going to die. He already had so many close calls, it’s almost bordering on fiction. What an ugly thing war is. I really hope Euros and euros and Slavs never kill each other again. It’s already depressing Ukraine and Russia are doing this.
Consider this!: all our problems are caused by that 1% high-functioning psychopaths our species keeps giving birth to. It's THEIR fault the planet is burning up---and what are they doing? Playing world domination games! But look on the bright side, Nuclear Winter will stop global warming! :-/
Yes, Ukrainians killing Russians....for no reason. All could have been negotiated with reason. HANDSOME Slavic men killing other handsome Slavic men.....the reason for this is the damned Leftist Cult Democrat party. Obama engineered the interference into Ukrainian politics. ....the stealing of the election in 2020 sealed the fate. Trump would simply not have allowed this travesty of a needless war to have happened.....Massive Voter Fraud, which is sacrilege and treason, has consequences.....and the Democrats prepare to steal the 2024 election. ...America was founded with the principle of the People deciding who will be in the government...no more...democrat Leftist cult true believers only care for piwer...the principles of American heritage of freedom mean nothing to them.....they only want power to rule over all, and to 'transform America' into their Marxist dreams, in spite of Marxism being a proven disastrous failure everywhere it had been imposed.
@@bervar7043Yea. Russians were awful beasts. The way they murdered their own citizens for the crime of being trapped in occupied territory. The way they invaded Poland with the nazis and exacted horrible atrocities upon the poles.
Maybe the Italians were smarter about the whole situation? Here is an Italian movie about their army on the Eastern Front. There is an English dubbed version somewhere, I saw it 50 years and more ago. A young Peter Falk plays an Italian officer and gets some screen time. The movie is worth watching even if you don't understand Italian. I think the movie is a joint venture between Italian and Russian filmmakers in the USSR. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Zq3EVsN2JBs.html
It seems strange that he would say nothing about Stalingrad in late 42 and January of 43. It was the biggest German lost by far and I'm sure it traumatized a lot of the soldiers. It seems as if every soldier on that front would have been aware of it and would wonder what it meant for them in the coming year.
@@marcustaylor2138 No, at the end of the video it says he met his end (or at least became unaccounted for) in June 1944. At that point he was serving in Army group central. That means he was a victim of the massive Soviet offensive Operation Bagration that totally destroyed Army Group Central It sounds like from this diary he was part of the German army that was initially trying to break through to Stalingrad to save the 6th Army that was surrounded but they were forced to go on the defensive. I believe the Soviet offensive he was retreating from was Operation Little Saturn.
@@RonnieLeeDuckI seem to recall that Bagration, did not take place until August, of that year. It is possible that Stalin, had planned an earlier offensive but waited until German, troops were transferred to Normandy. Does anyone have any information on this possibility?
@@paulbeesley8283 Operation Bagration started in June, (albeit late June) and lasted through August. I do know it was loosely arranged to take place at the same time as the Normandy campaign. I believe all the Allied countries agreed on that. But neither the Soviets or the West had any knowledge of each other's plans. I don't know but I think it highly likely Stalin would have waited to launch the offensive until he was sure the Allies had a foothold in France. It would be totally in line with Stalin to not trust the western allies. However, once he saw the Normandy campaign underway he would have launched Bagration regardless of whether German Troops in Russia were transferred to France. You do bring up an interesting question. British intelligence learned that a couple German divisions from the Eastern front had been transferred to Normandy in the weeks before the Normandy invasion. I have no idea whether they would have shared that intelligence with Stalin Maybe the Soviets could have found that out themselves. However, their focus was keeping the build up of Bagration concealed to achieve surprise. So I'm doubtful they would have cared much either way in the big scheme of things.
He mentioned Stalingrad earlier when talking about the easternmost outpost of the line. He talked about "we know we might suffer the same fate as.... Stalingrad". Many soldiers would not have mentioned it in their diaries, other than in passing.
This is perhaps the most natural AI I have ever heard. If this is what future is going to be like, any almost-forgotten book with great stories effortlessly revived with such a great tool, I’m all for it!!
But we will soon be unable to differentiate between AI and real emotions, real intentions. Everything will be deep-fake and that is very dangerous: socially, politically, psychologically. Manipulation will be the only valency. A real person could have read these memoirs. Perhaps these memoirs could have been written by AI. They soon will be. And then how will we have spent out time on earth?
Sure AI is the greatest, especially if you love synthetic voices miss pronouncing words, and no human feelings in speech. But it will improve, AMIRIGHT? ÀI, THE NEXT NEW THING.
Obvious that it's a computer-generated, AI production of the sound of a human voice. No human being's voice would pronounce, enunciate, or inflect any language or accent with such consistency like that - with zero variations and undeviating pitch, speed and articulation. A voice program is a voice progam, and remains the same throughout.
My brother in law was captured in Oreal during the summer of 1943. He was a captain of a machine company. He ended up as a POW in Archangel near the Arctic Circle for the balance of the war and until 1954. How could I have a brother in law in this war? I married a lady whose sister married a man who was the younger brother faught in the German Army on the Eastern Front. His father was a doctor whose first wife died before WW II. He had a son born in 1920s with his first wife. The doctor remarried during the war and had a son. He became my brother in law when he married my wife’s sister. His step brother was inducted into the German Army. Now his much older step brother was in the army and forced to fight on the eastern front until fighting in Oreal when he was captured two years before his brother, my brother in law, was born in Colholn. I am 82 years old and faught in the Vietnam war from November 1968 to November 1969 when I was decorated and returned to the US as a professor in the engineer school in Alexandria, Virginia. I went on the receive the Ph.D in geochemistry at Penn State University using the GI Bill to fund my education. It will always be hard for me to believe that I have a brother in law captured in Oreal, the summer of 1943, one year after my birth in May of 1942!
If this guy, whatever his name is writing this diary wouldn't be a link in brutally occupying a foreign land, he would have been home with his wife and daughter every day the year around, just mentioning as he repeats his dream so many times, but he never says, what the heck am I/we doing here and why are we dying here???😮
They never asked that question because they knew why they were there. Watch “Europa the Last Battle”, they explain all the facts surrounding Stalin’s planned invasion of Western Europe to spread communism “All the way to the Atlantic” The world would be unrecognizable if operation Barbarossa had never happened.
@conceptalfa If only he had stayed home with his wife and daughter...every day a year round would have been bliss... But we know Russia and Germany signed an non-aggression pack, while both were preparing to invade the other. Only Germany got there first, and they discovered hundreds of thousands of Russian troops on their border, massed there waiting to invade Germany.
Love these videos but it would really help to have some attribution as well as have them in order / playlists. It is very disjointed and anonymous right now. Some even say it's AI generated. Put a description of the source material in the caption!
Hitler was a monster as we all know but he has one of my favorite WW2 quotes. "Italians should sick with food because they are terrible at war." LOL facts.
Yes just like the Nazis that were killing the poor Jews in the concentration camps. I don't feel sorry for them at all. They reaped what they sowed..@@emoody6097
Very interesting . But havinig known whatattcocities German Army did to civilians of then Soviet Union I have no pitty for this or any German soldiers. 27 million dead
I will not apologize for what I am about to write! As a German, It brings me great joy to listen to their demise! Great shame on my ancestors for following a demented mad man to their own destruction! Thank you allies for the destruction of Germany at this eventful time in history. May it never ever be repeated!
In America we a🎉re being led by demented brain dead man and a group of murderers Global elitist run by the CIA and every bit as bad as the Nazis and worse.
I as a German myself am glad that they Allies stopped Hitler, but at the same time I feel empathy for the regular German soldiers who died in this war. There is nothing to be happy about.
I love this whole series but sometimes I’m left wondering if the narrator is a robot. There are weird pronunciation mistakes and punctuation mistakes while reading the script, like saying “A-C-com-plish-ments” for accomplishment
Don't blame the narrator he did a great job with what he had. It's the original publisher of the book '' Blood Red Snow '' From German to English lots of mistakes were made with the writing and editing of the book. This channel has nothing to do with the content you are listening to, it's a chopped up already existing audio book
It saddens me when i hear how eloquently young people wrote and spoke just two generations ago. In Europe, America, and most places. Listening to young Americans speak today is embarrassing for humanity. We have been deliberately rendered ignorant. Thank a Democrat
Every time I click on one of these videos by one of these German soldiers they are all the same. They never lose a battle or kill innocent civilians. And if they do lose a battle it was always because they were outnumbered 100 to 1 or one of their non-germany allies let them down. Well, the truth is they did lose wars in both WW1 and WW2 and sometimes the enemy soldiers were just harder fighters than them and they did kill, rape, and take food from civilians. They started two wars and lost both of them.
@@andrewm478indeed they were but that is the folly of attacking the 2 largest colonial empires the Soviet Union and the United States within a 3 year timeframe, Germany reaped what it had sewn.
Arrogant to the end and mixed with bitterness that some of the German troops are “living it up” in France. But the troops in France were beaten back into Germany and suffered the same fate as these Nazis.
At 2:38, when the narrator reads :"the a c complishments" you KNOW you're listening to a mindless machine, who no more understands what it's reading than a hammer understands what type of nail it's bashing in. This is truly pathetic.
We of the tribes of Germanic peoples, even separated by many generations, must gain 3 lessons to learn from these our distant cousins and brothers. 1. We must maintain our American beliefs and NEVER ALLOW our foundations of FREEDOMS . . . to overthrow those who would take these INALIENABLE RIGHTS from us. 2. The average German soldiers were generally unaware of the disgusting and criminal actions of their AUTHORITAN GOVERNMENT. Actions the average soldiers took against civilians were their enemies. Destruction is a part of modern war. The unexcusible EVIL was done in the rear by those who never heard the whistle of a shot fired in anger toward them. 3. War is the last possible action when all other possibilities are exhausted, and the Nation has essential interests at stake. The lesson is maintain essential FREEDOM at all costs. We Americans had/have no strategic interests in Vietnam, Afghanistan, and Iraq nor, in the corrupt non-democratic Ukraine. Stalin was a larger mass murderer than the despicable Hitler as was Mao.
I find these interesting but…… I’m wondering if these are from actual diaries. It seems like all these writings are in the same style of one or two writers which is make of me wonder if these are true passages from actual diaries. I’m sure the names and units are real, they may have all had the same writing and language teachers…. But I doubt it.
The AC-complishments 😂 I like these stories but why is every channel I look at narrated by AI? Does that 1.5 of time-saving warrant such glitches? I miss humans.
The cost of their victory terribly high and brings into question how the bolshevik communists had little to no regard for the lives of their own people. Most official casualty estimates range from 11.5 million up to 20 million dead and missing. While Germany’s casualties, on all fronts, against other world powers, (North Africa, the Mediterranean, France, Poland, Ukraine, Romania, UK, etc.) at 4.3 million dead and missing. USSR was of course 3 times as high while combating mainly one enemy.
Id like to hear the diaries of the killers . The ones that murdered pillaged and God knows what . The fact that will never happen ,it would be a welcome relief to hear the thoughts of these so called good German soldiers ,instead of regaling us with stories of the cold, and wet socks. I could understand fear of the home regime , yet these stories dont cover that . As my years are comming to a close ,I doubt i,ll EVER understand the psyche that killed mt grand-parents and 2 uncles ,for what? They werent Jewish , or any other form of Nazi "undesirable". I dont hate German people ,they were victims too . The man in the street ,who done nothing through fear is one thing . But lets not pretend the likes of this story would be of any interest ,had they won.
The fact this guy never wrote a word asking "why are we here?" or "this is a waste!" even at these darkest of times he writes about implies he never once thought what he, his comrades, or his leadership was doing was bad. Just things about his "happy dreams" and how things were tough for him. That says a lot in my opinion.
@gc3847 Actually, I would not classify the German people during that time as victims since the majority knew what was going on and were mostly very antisemetic. They committed many cruelties alongside the police, SS, regular soldiers, etc. As far as having access to the diaries of "the murderers" as you say, I've read that even the regular German population went on a frenzy of destroying any documentation that they had done anything wrong or were card carrying Nazis, etc, so those that committed atrocities certainly would have destroyed their diaries. It would be interesting to get diaries, If those murderers died before destroying their diaries. You know the massive push at the end of the war to destroy concentration camp documents was only partly successful because it wasn't possible to destroy the huge amount that existed.
I learned long long ago, comments sections on videos covering these topics reflect about as much competence as the African NASA program has the chance of reaching the moon. It will never cease to amaze me as to how so many people miss the bigger point and still just enact pure tribalism.
Similar thoughts have crossed my mind too. But not all the comments are tribal. What I find interesting is the insight I get into the evolving thinking of the German soldiers as the stark reality of war grinds on.
A Russian panja hut is just a wooden and thatched hut with a huge Russian style stove in it. The stove is mainly mud, or masonry, depending on what resources are available. Above the stove is where there is room for 2 or more people to sleep and keep warm.
