Welcome Back!
Join me for quite possibly the last fully operational pass of Ham Radio Satellite Tevel 7. It is a sad time in the Satellite Community as the FM Tevel Satellites have all gone extinct.
Over the last few weeks, they began the inevitable cycle of decay. Tevel 7 was the last to remain, and this may just be the last fully functional pass over North America.
The students in Israel that built these satellites should be very proud of their work. The satellites served the community for the last two years magnificently.
Equipment used
Icom IC-9700
CSN Technologies SAT Controller
WiMo X-Quads
SHF Elektronik Mini 70 Preamp
Yaesu G-550 Rotor

Dude that was AWESOME!!! Thanks for saving that in the record book! I think my tracker was pointed at my garage when I dropped off a few times.

😢I was completely unprepared for the EOL of the TEVEL birds. I had expected them to be up for years, not “a” year. This newbie is heartbroken. Edit: I didn’t realize they’d been up for 2 years.

I know it Tim, very sad day indeed. I knew they had a short life expectancy but until the week prior, I had not checked to see how they were doing. When I found out they were all in decay I immediately tried to plan a last pass. I received reports on the pass after this one it was going out. It was shutting off sounding weak and nearly impossible to track by handheld antenna. I don’t think any contacts were made.

The good news is, I heard a strong rumor during the AMSAT D-Star net a couple weeks ago that a similar mission is imminent.@@W0CYC-HamRadioEndeavors

Oh man!!! That’s awesome! I need to know about this Amsat DStar net!?!?! I’ve got a local repeater and I’ve made a couple contacts but haven’t dove deep yet.

That's terrible news i was hoping to make a contact with them. I was able to tap in and hear myself on the downlink though

Yes it is. My fingers are crossed we get one more activation of it before it goes. But David’s post was pretty clear it would be reserved for the students. 73!!!

Looking to get into satellite comms, what software is the one on the top left hand corner (map showing path and footprint)? Thanks de VK6KC

Hello Kurt! That is the interface for the CSN Technologies SAT Controller. It is a stand alone box that controls the radio and rotor system via IP address from any browser. It is literally the best money spent on a home satellite station. They also have the best customer support of any company I have ever bought any product from. Thanks for watching, 73!!

@@W0CYC-HamRadioEndeavors I have recently been working through satellites and these are the first ones that died. According to forecasts, they were supposed to leave orbit in March, but they lasted until mid-summer. It has been difficult to work with them lately. They responded irregularly. Now I think it was because they began to enter the dense layers of the atmosphere Something new will appear, of course. Hades D already makes me happy
@W0CYC-HamRadioEndeavors
@W0CYC-HamRadioEndeavors Месяц назад
You are correct!! They had been fairly difficult the last few passes. Stations were in and out which was out of the ordinary. I’m glad to hear you have gotten into satellites! It is a very rewarding part of the hobby. Hades-D is fun because of the challenge of hearing it. So far my furthest contact on it is just over 1000 miles.

@@W0CYC-HamRadioEndeavors Hades-D is like a capricious woman. You need to listen to it carefully and find an algorithm of action. Even if you understand, this does not guarantee successful work with it. This constant quest scares off operators - this is the main problem. Basically, I listen to myself on it, instead of making connections. But I really like this satellite. It is curious, this is what attracts me to it )
@W0CYC-HamRadioEndeavors
@W0CYC-HamRadioEndeavors Месяц назад
I completely get that!! There are so few on it I am usually listening to myself also😂. The most contacts I’ve made on a pass of it is three.
