You need a scraper to help with spreading the paper. A hard plastic one. It makes process so much easier. It's still tedious but not as much and you get the groove and can move quickly

I actually have one of those, but I prefer not to use it because of a bad experience that I had several years ago trying to remove wallpaper afterwards. However, since several of you have made the same suggestion (and I suppose removing contact paper from a hard surface would be different than removing wallpaper from a painted wall), I’ll try the scraper when I do my kitchen - coming soon! You all finally convinced me to give the scraper another go… thanks for the feedback!!

I used a credit card to smooth it down instead of my hand.If you get a buble poke it with the utility knife and smooth it out.Use a hair dryer to heat it as you smooth it down.

I agree about the utility knife (I definitely did that), I’ve gotten mixed reviews about the blow dryer, and I’m going to try a “squeegee” when I do my kitchen next month 😆 please look out for it and thanks for the suggestions!!!

When I did this at home, I bought one that was more of a flat mat, and I took out the sink. It was easier just to take out the sink and also use a Squeeze Or a tool used for spackling

U needed a card or some kind of tool to flattened it and release the bubbles. That's why it look u so long. My 1st time was rough, but after doing it so much, i became a pro lol. U did an awesome job thou.

Thank you! ☺️ I purposely don’t use a tool because it’s too hard to remove the paper afterwards (same with wallpaper)… plus, the most efficient way to get bubbles out is with the tip of the blade or a needle or a pushpin, anything that’s small but sharp enough to make a tiny puncture, then the paper flattens down nice and smooth. I’m doing my kitchen in a few weeks with smaller contact paper, and the sink is flush to the counter so I’m hoping that will help…? 😅

@@Chanettes_Unique Girrrlll, I just watched your “Comparing Contact Paper” video, and you provided great detail and insight… thank you! I also like the blue smoother/scaper that you used, but the red one (the one you didn’t use) I also have in lime green and I don’t like it either. I will definitely try the blue one when I tackle my kitchen… thanks again for the feedback and GREAT JOB!!! 🤗 (I’ll be posting a comment there too…!)

Couple of tips: Lightly spritz windex before applying and it helps the paper slide around while you adjust. It will dry, I promise. Use a squeegee to help put the paper down and a blow dryer on low as the heat helps it to be more pliable around angles. You did great! 👏👏👏

I had the same counter on my bathroom. Oh my it was a pain in the but the first time. But the second time I used my blow dryer to stretch the contact paper in it helped alittle. But you did good.

You really stuck to getting the job done and the counter looks like real marble. Here's tip I tried to help the smoothing process. Instead of peeling the protective backing all the way off, peel back in sections. Peel back so that the upper corner is in the shape of a trinangle, then crease the backing. 13:17 Start at the corner of the object then slowly peel back. Smoothe adhered pieces with a plastic trowel or a smoothe rag. Just take your time and it will come out fine. ❤

I’d like to know how this wears and what it looks like in 6 months. Is this a guest bath that is seldom used? My experience with contact paper is it will peel up

I use this bathroom everyday, so I will surely do an update. I’m actually curious how it holds up too, it really wasn’t great quality paper… although so far, so good! I’ll keep you posted for sure, thanks for the comment! 😊
