I have a group in my dwarven lore called "The Forgelighters" tasked with find new realms for dwarves to settle. These are usually the ones you find on the surface though they are secretive about their purposes. The survey both the land and politics of an area gathering all possible data before returning to their Chiefs. Kind of like your brotherhood but they tend to be solitary trying to attract as little attention as possible. When they find a suitable area it is the Forgelighter who leads the expedition to settle the new colony. They also seek out abandoned settlements and assess them for "Relighting".

Most people would not be though, because modern life doesn't teach you how to build a good shelter, how to forrage, what to forrage, how to make tools, how to hunt with the tools you made, how to treat a wound or infection, and most importantly how to make and keep a fire without modern tools. I would personally not be the least bit happy in the wilderness if I had to stay outside in freezing rain and all I had was enough for a being there during the day, or less, because I lost all my stuff and now have to make do with the wet clothes on my back. Nature, at least here where it can get way bellow freezing, is happy to kill you if you don't know what you're doing. Even if you are it will still try its best to kick you to death when you're down.

@@probablythedm1669 Perhaps most people would not be if they were to be instantly thrust into a new life (the change itself is the problem, not the state of reality being changed to), but I think probably most would be happier if they had lived a life that led them to the forest instead. Like, people are smarter when they get iodine in their diet, but when massive amounts of the american south was iodine deficient, an increase of iodine in their diet from iodized salt actually ended up killing a lot of people, because their iodine deficient bodies were shocked by the introduction of the chemical. But just because the iodine killed some iodine deficient people doesn't mean that those very people wouldnt have been smarter and happier if they had had iodine in the first place, or were introduced more gently

It honestly sounded a bit more like Hebrew, which, to my limited understanding, has short root words to which you add suffixes and prefixes to make it more specific, but the word is still overall not that long It may have come to mind bc kuzdhul, the language of the dwarfs in middle earth, is based on semitic languages, so don't hold me to my word on that one

Around 21:00 describing the second language of symbology reminds me of the star trek TNG episode "Darmok" Where the aliens can only talk in allegories like: 'Darmok and Jalad on the ocean.' (meaning two enemy hero's stuck together in a ship but who must help each other to survive otherwise both die) And: 'Temba, his arms wide' which I think meant the hero who freely gave help.... (IIRC) That type of language makes for great role playing too!

Hi Mr Rhexx. I have bought your PDF for Monster Races, and I have to say it is AWESOME! (And I have questions about it) Highly recommended to all your viewers and D&D players! I just LOVE the three races / classes you created, it is amazing work, with the stats, the story, the many character options, the sheer flavour of it all! And the art is very nice too! Bravo! Celestials, Succubi and Ghosts seem like VERY desirable options for PCs, and now YOU have created a viable way to play them (3rd edition's "savage species" was not really viable)! This is fantastic work! I will, definitely, continue following your creations (I already follow your RU-vid channel with passion) Further, I have always fantasied on a Succubus with a Good-hearted nature - either on a redemption path or a will to not be evil (since I began playing D&D, more than 30 years ago)! And you mentioned that option! Thank you! Which leads me to my question / request for added information and details on some options that you mentioned. You mention in your work the path to redemption for the Succubus, which is awesome (and I loved it that you cleverly detailed the implication between morality and the inherently lewd mind of the race). You also offer a nice choice of origin options, some of which meaning that the individual creature needs not be inherently driven by Evil intent - which is also very awesome. So here are three "basic" questions: 1 If a Succubus is on the path to redemption (or wishing to escape the fate of being tied to Hell or Abyss), and truly wanting to leave the path of Evil, what would be her alignment? - Would she still be NE, or have the alignment that she wishes to pursue, or having an undetermined True Alignment, until she reaches redemption? - I suppose she be detected as Evil with magic, until a God of Good would validate her atonement, what do you think? 2. If a Succubus has a background which means that she did not choose/deserve her damnation (namely, background option #7, or if she was born from two succubi, with the genetic flaw of not feeling inherently Evil), and she wishes to escape the fate of being doomed to be an evil demon, what would be her path to redemption? She may even have such a story that she did not ever commit evil acts. I think of several background stories, two of which makes her devoid of any Evil intent (which are somehow far-fetched, but make for a very interesting case of tragic back-story): 2a- She would wake up after death as a Succubus, and not wanting to commit evil, and be a slave to a powerful devil until something happens (either a rebellion or her master king deposited), and she manages to escape to the Prime 2b- She would be sent on her first evil mission and try to find asylum with a church of Good and Redemption (such as Ilmater or Lathander or Selune - or maybe Sunie, in a different way, or even Bahamut...) What would be the path then? 3. The same kind of questioning could also be relevant in more "grey" cases. If a Succubus has committed bad sins, not as evil intent, but out of misjudgement and stupidity (such as background options #2, #6, #10, #11)... how wold you judge that she has made enough good deeds (7 times for each sin)? I would assume it would be the DM's fiat, and probably a running backstory throughout the campaign. 4. Last,If the subject interests you, I have further "advanced" questions / subjects to ponder: The backstory of the race is a tragic one, where the gods were... kind of absolute jerks - very much like the Greek gods were. Punishing angels for being benevolent and wanting some agency, by rendereing them evil and destroying their reason to be... (seems like the angels of love were CG, very Good indeed, and the gods were very lawaful and their actions were LE) - Would you consider the possibility of a Succubus being still Good at heart towards the mortal races, and angry at the Gods that cursed her and her race? And if so, what would be the options (especially in the Forgotten Realms, where having no Patron God is kind of impossible)? - If the only sin they committed was to want to chose who to love, only 7 good deeds would circumvent the transgression, would it not? But then, there is the matter of injustice and rebellion... There is a very deep theological / moral questioning there... - Would there be gods that appeared after the fall of the Angels of Love, who would consider taking one such under their wings? If so, would it upset the balance of alliances between the gods? - Would some Chaotic Good deities or powers (I think of the Eladrins) that would accept them and help them escape the realm of fiends? - Maybe there would be a goddess of Succubus Redemption, quite the way that Eilistraee is to the Drow? (And yes, I know Eilistraee is your favourite power of all D&D universes, and I definitely understand why) Thank you for any answers, and thank you for your work. Cheers.

I kinda like the Caste System they have for Dwarves in the Dragon Age series. They have Noble, Warrior, Smith, Artisan, Mining, Merchant, Servant, and Casteless. How it works is your Caste depends upon your same gender parent, so if your mother is a Noble but your Father is a Warrior and you're born a male you are a member of the Warrior Caste. This is separate from Clans and can be a part of the Clan system.

don't forget to talk about the Giant Wars, unlike the elven "crown wars" the dwarfs won their war against the Giants.

Love the content. Also love the fact you have a supporter that goes by the name of Lactose the Intolerant, that made me laugh.

So Dwarves and Giants have runes in common, resource issues in common, but diverge after that and do so radically. Dwarves and Giants in AD&D do have a LOT of common themes once you explore the issue until you get into lesser giants and giant-kins.

Y'know I'd LOVE a vid on fire giants! 🔥 I started building giants' countries in my homebrew world & I realized fire giants are totally immune to flame, so they must be INCREDIBLE smiths, able to work molten metal with their bare hands! In regular D&D pics they seem to resemble huge dark skinned dwarves to reflect this, though I picture them more like dark elves. Would love to know their personal lore apart from giants as a whole.

What an amazing new video series, It's been great to hear more about dwarves. They've been one of my favorite D&D races and cultures, so thank you for doing this. ...also I hope that the comments aren't full of ignorance and hate an if so that you moderate it... It's doesn't feel good

I love your videos on the hidden lore of the different races and monsters. If you haven't already, you should do a video on goblins! Those sneaky bastards are hiding something, I just know it 😄

I got that monster character creator thing and it seriously is top notch content guys. I’m making a succubus character who wants to redeem herself but is so out of her element with the whole kindness thing that she’s recoiled a bit and become shy

One thing I'm interested in is how do underground dwarves get their food? I've always thought they would have something more interesting than farming, hunting, trading or eating fungus or mold but I haven't come up with what it is yet. I'm wondering if anyone else has.

Underground dwarves will trade precious metal and stones worked from their mines for surface-dwellers grain.
