I'm surprised they actually seem to have learnt from Lightfall and immediately try and set up stakes for the players. We're shown the last city during a peaceful day, then given a glimpse of the Final Shape as the witness tryes to enact it. And honestly? It's remarkably effective! I'd do anything to protect that guitar-playing Eliksni with my life!
Lightfall was really a set up story to the beginning of the end, it is about losing, we lost the traveler, lost friends, but through it we find the strength to overcome.
If I was directing this, I'd have the witness play it's own version of "I'd like to change the world" as it calcified eveything. Try muting this intro with that song playing over the califying scene. Perfect.
The mother's reaction was obvious that the final shape did happen, but I completely forgot about the Traveler screaming. But I like this cutscene for the fact we saw what would happen if the final shape came through. So we knew what we were fighting for.
Obviously Lance Reddick is sadly missed and irreplaceable as Zavala but when I heard Keith David's voice for the first time as Commander Zavala in this video I have to say he's done an amazing job and has brought his own tweak to the voice.
