I am amazed by your patience. My experience of Marshall Jaguar was not good and yes they should have paid for brakes as customer relations/goodwill gesture. Good luck with collection.!!
I don’t live in the UK, yet I am a member of the I-Pace forum as an I-Pace owner. The second you mentioned Marshalls, nothing of your story surprised me!
My XK was recently in with Sytner JLR Stockport. A one day visit (after waiting 8 weeks for an appointment) turned into being without the car for a week. Got it back, fault fixed but then they hadn't refitted the trim properly and my paperwork has the incorrect mileage on. The people themselves were lovely but the customer service experience was dire. I'll be sticking to specialists and staying well clear of any JLR main dealers
Your car brakes were close to the limit, they advised you they were low. Subsequent roadtests put the pads to the point they needed renewal. It is a consumable and it's not their problem, yours bud in this instance. Glad it's coming home though mate.
Brilliant news my friend , I would of done the same , get the car of JLR get the ***k out of there., get the brakes done by a independent garage . The time scale is atrocious, let's face it JLR have not got a lot to do, the jaguar side is only doing service and maintenance, As the sales side is finished for at least 12 months as they going fully electric , put this behind you , and start enjoying your F-type , and my you have a brilliant time enjoying it , and no more trouble . All the best my friend , looking forward to following your adventures in the up and coming YouTubs ?.
The brakes are super easy to do. Was quoted £250-300 with parts labour by an indy. I brought the parts myself and did both front rear by myself took 2-3hrs tops. Easy peasy. Parts cost me £120 front and rear brakes. Discs were find.
678. Good news finally getting your car back. Looking forward to seeing the work dudley does. These brand garages really do take the piss a lot of times not just JLR but many other brands too. Had a similar time frame with BMW them causing more damage then taking an age to fix the car
678! Hallelujah, you’re getting it back! Excellent news, and the warranty covered it too, slightly stunned by this, but good. I can’t remember, is the warranty still running with JLR, and/or will you extend it? Personally I’d sack it off, trust the car to your Indy and pocket the cash you save from not paying the warranty to put against future costs, at least figuratively. Anyway, pleased for you!
Unfortunately as you’ve stated the car has sat for months. They haven’t been using it every day so they haven’t caused the brakes to wear out 😭. They won’t spend all that money rectifying it even after all this time sadly
My 2007 L322 has just come back from an indy garage after 10 months. Total cost £8.5k - loads done. Like you, I love the car still. Depreciation on anything new would have cost that. I tried to contact JLR parts dept in Norwich for a new key - took 3 attempts (over 2 days) to get a response - they want £250 for the key and an hour's labour @ £198/hr to programme!!. At the same time - I expressed an interest in a 2018 Disco sport they had in stock - I've now had 5 calls from the sales team to see if I want to proceed - they offered £2450 for my RR So much wrong with JLR dealers - why would anyone pay to use them if not under warranty? Anyway - hope you enjoy the F-Type on it's return
Hopefully this won't be the final update. Maybe you should invite Marshalls for a question and answer session when you pick the car up. They could accept the offer with the opportunity to redeem themselves, anyway I'm sure that you'll keep us in touch. I'm going to be cheeky here and recommend you another RU-vid channel that rebuilds a F Type engine. It's a little known channel from America where a guy carefully guides the viewer through a rebuild with excellent commentary and video. It's called HermitThe Crab and I found it (probably the best) vlog on F Types.
Seen those videos, amazing but can’t help but think he was so well equipped (and his partner) he bought a car with a damaged engine specifically to make the series.Wish I had a a garage like his.
Offer to pay for the parts and they swallow the labour, get the car back, put it straight in for an independent inspection. Trust me, the inspection will find issues the dealer should have dealt with. Then take legal action.
I wouldn't want them to do the brakes, I'd want it back for a sanity check first, you never know if that really is correct eh or just a spurious signal. Then do them myself...IF it does need them! (678)
Car will have been stored outside open to the elements for 5 months ! discs will have rotted and scraped the material off the brake pads when they moved it. Tell them to restore the cars brakes to the condition that they received the car 5 months back - Chancers take No responsibility for their neglect.
Wow I've never taken a car to a dealer. Sounds like a nightmare. You had a courtesy car , why the moan about your insurance ? JLR are in a mess with parts supply. Shame really, hope they pull their socks up
we've all been waiting on those words "the car is fixed" since April-May right? OMG. - this dealership doesnt give a crap about you - they should give the brakes free for 5 months of bullshit. i would be pissed and how the heck does a steel brake wear out sitting,? you can let it go and be at peace, knowing you never have to see them again, or you can sue, write letters, keep them from doing this to others. 678
The discs are the last piece of a fxxxxxxx puzzle that’s absolutely not acceptable… I‘d change the garage and probably the car as well… Luckily not all JLR dealers/garages are like that many though… 😢
They taking the piss I’d go mental Marshall sound like lookers con men company’s Im going to see dud soon too ordered some bits got new roll bar covers n some other carbon bits
Congratulations, you won a prize that will void your Jaguar warranty if you decide to use the prize on your F-Type. Your demand letter went to the wrong company. It should have gone to the company you have a contract with to supply you with a working vehicle, which is your finance company. Follow the money.
Yet again your being too nice. Keep the courtesy car and demand they repair the brakes whilst parked at there premises. Have you spoken to Jaguar customer care or a solicitor for legal guidance?
