In England,, I can give some insight that the financial implications of being a second , third or fourth wife can be significant. Generally, wife number 1 is the legal wife if there is a valid legal marriage and she is protected financially for herself and any children in the event the marriage breakdowns.Wife number 2,3 and 4 may only legally have the rights of a cohabitee, which is significantly less and has left some women financially destitute. Women should educate themselves and understand the implications of polygamy in the laws of the country they live in.

You're not factoring in the risk of divorce. If just one of the wives gets a state sponsored divorce, then child and spousal support will put you in the hole for decades.

Awesome video. In Canada, I think it's about 60-80K CAD to maintain a household, but I think it might be easier to find cost savings for accommodations for multiple people.

I knew some practicing Muslim men they have two or three wives and they all are taking beneft from council and having babies and tell their wives go and ask council to get the house and showing single mum and they say I have a partner and councils people see niqabi women are pregnant wothout the husband and taking partner with them. Imagine if a guy married your sister or daughter, then expected her to claim welfare benefits. These sort of sham arrangements must be stopped. If you intend to be equitable and fulfill the needs of more than one family then you better have an income of 50k per family unit and provide living accommodation.

There are ayahs in the Quran not to stop having children out of the fear of poverty as Allah is the provider! However, there is no similar ayahs of such nature when refereing to 2nd, 3rd, 4th wives, but there is ayahs talking about affordibility and Fairness so therefore this video makes sense, but the same video for number of kids wouldn’t.

Are these salary numbers before or after tax? I'm assuming after tax? This means an individual should make £5,000 a month to maintain (and have some savings) for one household to equate to the £60,000 salary you mentioned. I don't necessarily disagree but that seems quite a lot. I guess this is also why so many families in the West need a dual income. SubhanAllah.

Depends what part of the world you live in, what is the cultural norm in that particular Muslim community, what does the sister demand? (we know some Muslims have given qur'anic ayah as mahar etc.) As it stands especially Muslims living in western societies have lost many Muslims to the western values of accepted Zina, the Lgb...community, Muslim women marrying kuffar etc. The problem is that marrige must be made practical and easily achieved. It boils down to what is agreed upon. Yes indeed "marry if you can afford it" and "marry even if you are poor and ALLAH will suffice" Polygyny will save women from Jahanam (and men!)

Hello, I love the educational islamic finance provided by you guys. Can I make a request for a video? Its about "how higher interest rate effect islamic finance institutions and banking". I am a student and the other day my lecturer explained that higher interest rate ate up islamic banking profit, it is because they take up their profit to stay competitive with the higher interest rate given by other conventional banks for their deposits. To avoid some "sort of bank run" to avoid their depositors running away to othe banks for higher yield, they ate (sacrifice) some of their profit to maintain competitive with other yields, for their deposits.

No, he's not just explaining how much it costs he's deavling into the Islamic-legal realm (btw many Muslim women take both their Islamic rights and western legal rights - which they have no right to do so... list goes on) I have 4 children, I hope to have at least a dozen more. If I had counted how much they would cost (I estimate a million until they grow up for the four) I probably would have had 2. The happiness they bring far outweighs the the cost. On top of that I'm following the sunnah. Did Ibrahim give that a monetary value? I trust Allah will provide for me and my Muslim children. Western men commit zina. 90% of them. Allah has given us guidance.

as foreigners can only own 40% of land, 3 wives means 20% each, so you only need 1 out of 3 to agree, to stay on the land even in messy circumstances. Further if wife leaves, no divorce settlement required. The expat can own 100% of the house, so make it modular, if the worse happens, all 3 wives want him out, then most of the cost is in the house, not land. Start again.

They can partly or fully waive their right to financial maintenance btw. As in they can be partly ‘self-funded’ if they’re working women The Prophet ﷺ lived a very ‘harsh’ life, to the extent his wives actually complained of the poverty. The response was to either choose divorce or put up with it, they chose to stay ﷺ “O Prophet! Say unto thy wives: If ye desire the world's life and its adornment, come! I will content you and will release you [i.e. divorce you] with a fair release. But if ye desire Allah and His messenger and the abode of the Hereafter, then lo! Allah hath prepared for the good among you an immense reward.” 33:28-29

Interesting perspective; however, your capitalistic, Eurocentric framework intertwined with Islamic texts appears redundant. Applying Islamic rulings to systems that do not function effectively is impractical. Marriage in the West is on the decline, not because it is inherently flawed, but because it faces challenges. Muslims are not exempt from these challenges. In fact, even marrying one wife can be burdensome, let alone having 2, 3, or 4. Do you happen to know the average salary of a Muslim male in the UK? It would be intriguing to find out. Your example is akin to the justifications made by many Desi brothers and sisters for resorting to usury from banks out of necessity, even though alternatives exist. It is possible to lead a content life without a mortgage, and if that means residing in social housing, so be it. Prioritizing the avoidance of prohibited acts should take precedence over following trends, considering one's financial circumstances, or heeding wives' opinions. One significant point that your video fails to acknowledge is human nature. Men may commit to one wife officially but may simultaneously seek non-Islamic alternatives such as escorts or girlfriends. Women may end up without husbands until they reach an age where they can no longer bear children. A society that promotes hyper-individualization and the notion that women must be independent of men can be detrimental to overall prosperity. The alternative is not merely to promote what works for you (May Allah bless you), as it may not work for the majority of people today. Instead, we should strive to change thinking and behaviors outside of a capitalistic, Eurocentric worldview. I recommend looking into Cat Calhoun's Universe 25, as it presents many similar parallels.

An absolute waste of time this video! Conflating polygyny, its wisdom, the degree about it's necessity in certain circumstances, while not a necessity at all in other circumstances, not to mention that polygyny is mubah (which means there's not necessarily any added reward for practising it and not practising it) and other reasons Vs UK cost of living where most Muslims are trying to keep up with the Jones's by wanting to own even when they're single and knowing house prices are way beyond means, is quite frankly a serious distortion in trying to explain anything about polygyny. Moreover polygyny has never been a hot topic only recently. It's only been spoken a bit more openly in the West here, because some people are realising the unnatural practice of monogamy in the first place, the unprecedent divorce rates, fornication/adultery, early death rates more from amongst men, higher birth in baby girls, single mothers unable to meet the needs even though they're working and so on. Some of these reasons may well be valid enough to consider a different lifestyle to the Western one, on the main condition that rights are NOT violated. After all, being in a monogamous relationship doesn't mean one manages their finances better and it's impossible in polygyny. Honestly sometimes I think ifg puts nonsensical contents out there just for likes and to look like these subjects are well worth addressing, especially without in-depth knowledge! 👎
