The best way to describe this drink is an alcoholic Squirt or Fresca. No gin taste, hint of fresh juniper, but mainly Fresca or Squirt. Very refreshing, light, satisfying, quite unique.
Here in Finland bc of the colour we sometimes call the original one as "betoni" which means concrete in Finnish. Greetings from you already know where from 🙂
@@pourmichiganreviews I don't know if this is appropriate these days but when the cranberry version was launched at the early 2000s we called it "gay lemonade" because of its color🤫 There is also lime, orange and citron flavours available here
It's a cocktail made from grapefruit soda/lemonade/pop and gin. Needs to be absolutely ice cold (best if you put it in the freezer before drinking) and best served with the glass FULL of ice. In finland bars have 3 taps. one beer, one cider and one long drink
I have a new version: It's a cocktail made from combining grapefruit-soda/lemonade/pop and gin. Needs to be absolutely ice cold (best if you put it in the freezer before drinking. even after the fridge) and best served with the glass FULL of ice. In finland bars have 3 taps. one beer, one cider and one long drink. Finns usually call it "lonkero" which also happens to translate to "tentacle". Tastes like soda. Will get you effed up REAL quick if you don't know what you're doing 🤣
The "official" finnish (nick)name everybody has used for decades is "Lonkero" (also translates "tentacle" in english). No-one here calls it a "long drink".
@@pourmichiganreviews it is way better, but we have massive tax here in Finland, so people buy it from cruise ships because its like half the tax there
long drinks were made for the first time for the 1952 Helsinki Olympics, so that restaurants would have ready-made drinks for the large number of tourists. There were two flavors: the gray colored Gin Long Drink made of gin and grapefruit lemonade and the yellowish Brandy Long Drink made of brandy and pommac.
Those are drinks that can easily drink to get totally shit faced...which is the main reason to drink alcohol to get drunk. Mostly for us Finn's drinking alcohol the main goal is to get drunk and socializing comes second😁 Greetings from Helsinki Finland
@@pourmichiganreviews *chuckle* sorry ... sometimes it offers to auto-translate ... it's a saying I learned when I lived in Finland that I modified ... "more Lonkero, my eyes are still moving!" ;)
@@pourmichiganreviewsin Finland we have one Vodka based and lime flavored original long drink. And one brandy based pear flavored too. That brandy was second original taste among grapefruit, but it's not that popular anymore.
Finn here. Maybe you should learn to open a can all the way before pouring. It helps with the spills. Pull the tap all the way front and then pull it back again. Don't you know how to open cans in America? This is not an insult, I am just really curious.
You need to visit Finland and taste the real original long drinks, we have original grapefruit one, cranberry, orange, blueberry, lime, pineapple, lemon, lemonade, red grapefruit, passionfruit, mango, raspberry and peach. Also strong variants are the grapefruit one, cranberry, orange and brandy with fruit soda "pommac". What a time to be finnish!
@@pourmichiganreviews if first can is made using the same recipe as Hartwall original long drink 5,5%, then it has around 55 kcal per 100 millilitres. Whole 0,33 litre can contains roughly 180 kcal. I would think this is Hartwall recipe drink, since history is printed on the can.
I can’t say for sure….it’s up to the retailer to purchase and sell it! It’s very popular in my store! You need to ask around! It should be available everywhere! (If the retailer chooses to sell it)
I just picked up a six-pack of the Strong Citrus in a little shop on Beaver Island where I spend a couple months each summer. They had all the flavors. Tried a couple today and they are very refreshing, no ethanol, nice tangy grapefruit, well-balanced, very satisfying. All the Yoopers should like this Finnish drink! If you are stoic, like the winter, and possess “sisu” you’ll definitely love this drink after the sauna… 🇫🇮
@@tommyrq180 I love the Beaver! I was up there roughly 10 years ago for the LoDico wedding. Everyone on the island that our group encountered were fantastic. That was my only trip but I’d definitely like to make another. As for Long Drink, I found a little spot around the corner from me that has it. It’s definitely a tasty beverage!
You guys are great! I pulled this up and was like I know them! So a buddy brought a lot of these camping in the UP last week and I was obsessed. I spend the whole time singing the Finland song by Monty Python. So I was looking to see if that was a typical side effect when I found your video.
