The Fire Temple is one of the most divisive dungeons in Tears of the Kingdom. Some call it a headache that they'd rather use rockets to skip, while others praise its intricate puzzle box nature.
But I find your enjoyment of this dungeon will depend greatly on how you choose to engage with what it has to offer.
Let's take a closer look!
Special thanks to Banuune for securing the in game models of the dungeon used here.

Thanks for watching folks! What did you think of the Fire Temple? Did you cheese it all or ride the carts the long way? Hey while you're here, maybe do all the liking and subscribing stuff. I would love that if you did. Stay cool ✌

I generally agree with you on this dungeon, but honestly I think the real problem isn't the fact you CAN cheese, the problem is this dungeon is so roundabout that often the route to each gong isn't clear WITHOUT cheese, the gongs really need a personal identity like a color theme with signage indicating the tracks to get there, not that the track actually WILL get you there, but indication it did at one time. With Yunobo, I think that is brilliant... However I think the real problem is his ability. I cannot tell you how often he just straight up refused to use my ramps, if you don't make it perfectly straight with ultrahand he just rolls off half the time, breaks the dang thing, or stumbles at the target, he'd need a special cart, he'd need pre-made ramps, his ability would need modifying... I literally had to make ramps all the way up to certain gongs just to walk up to them myself and activate him at the top so he didn't get lost. To consolidate: this dungeon is really hard to navigate properly, whereas cheese can help find locations you don't even know how to get back properly from, there aren't many good vantage points to figure this out as especially riding blind often just results in a nasty fall, and Yunobo is terrible at navigation in general.

I always shot the underside with the bow because it felt the most natural. I couldn't find a weak point on top, so I thought back to the MM3D Twinmold fight and attacked it from underneath. I remember finding out from Reddit that you could dive through and I was like "how was I supposed to know that?".

The wildest part of the Yunobo change you proposed is that the game actually does it. ...With Riju, in the Lightning Temple. And one instance in the Spirit Temple, to force you to put a rocket on Mineru. But for some baffling reason, not the Fire Temple (or the Water Temple). It's a real shame because the Fire Temple is a really good dungeon for all the reasons you said if engaged with genuinely. It's easily my favorite in TotK or BotW.

I started out engaging with this dungeon on its terms through the first two floors and those felt good. But somewhere around "ok do the 3rd floor now" it felt like they completely stopped any telegraphing or signaling of what the player should even think about next. I spent ~20 minutes getting frustrated with dead ends and falling into the lava and finally just started climbing the walls instead because that didn't require any guess work. It almost felt like I was being pushed in that direction by the lack of some kind of hint that I could find. For all I know there's something I just missed, but, other games have had ways to make sure you're not just cut completely loose like that. Including previous Zelda games. I feel like they knew you could just go around any obstacle here and didn't bother as much as a result.

I remember seeing the gorons with the red eyes eating the rocks and immediately thinking “Are they high on something ?” Then as the storyline progresses, I connected the dots and was eventually proven right, and it really set in. The Gorons are addicted to shiny rocks. This is a fucking drug epidemic in a zelda game. And lovable ol’ Yunobo was a goddamn drug lord.

I didn't cheese it and had a lot of fun. I remember ascending into a room at the very start and thinking "oh, I'm not really supposed to be here yet? I'll loot the chest, but guess I'll go back down so I don't miss anything". I decided early on, back in the wind temple, that I would not look at the map with the waypoints to find out where I'm supposed to go, as heading towards marked dots isn't much fun to me in general. Doing so fosters a bit of a mindless gps mentality of trying to get from A to B in the most linear way possible, rather than exploring at your own whims (even in real life I kind of hate gps wayfinding and try to avoid it). What I love is actually having to orient myself in a 3D space, looking for clues and paying attention to intuitions in order to navigate, which is a huge part of why Zelda games appeal to me so much. They are usually very, very well designed in this regard, and not least the dungeons. While this is still actually true for the TotK ones (except maybe the water temple lol), they only still give that experience if the player actively choses to ignore the dungeon map for whatever reason. It seems to me like most of the problems many have with "tracking down 4-5 terminal-like switches" come from immidiately accessing the knowledge of the entire dungeon layout and the precise directions to head towards the moment you step inside. Simply adding back the classic map and compass items the next game (or other mechanic that fulfill the same function) would help immensibly I think, even if they choose to continue exploring the new design style.

I did this dungeon for the second time last night. When you said "headache" i said outloud, YES IT IS A HEADACHE. Another well done video, Burger. I laughed at your boss eye rant. The Daruk music section gives me goosebumps. It's such a genuine, beautiful, and passionate melody. Ahh I love it so much. Also, Burger, I appreciate your overall positive yet very fair attitude. You get your points, opinions, and criticisms across in a way that feels kind but unafraid to address flaws. Very nice.

from what I can tell the "intended order" is wind, fire, water, lightning, spirit. this is the order the sages show up in the key items list when sorted as well offtopic but interestingly, the depths seems to have its own intended order―the order you would explore by first entering the depths from central hyrule, then following the kohga questline. the relative difficulty of enemies (especially minibosses) and the tiers of weapons you find closely follow that path (for example, gerudo depths are very easy relative to other areas, as not only is it flat but the miniboss enemies are mostly low-tier. which is kinda neat, as gerudo on the surface is one of the last areas the game pushes you towards) I think the game does a good job at railroading players, even if I went way against the vaguely intended order of dungeons and the far-less-vaguely intended order of memories

This has to be my favourite dungeon in the game. On my first playthrough I had heard about people cheesing the fire temple, but when I got to it, I didn’t cheese a bit. The complexity and difficulty of navigating throughout the dungeon was a thoroughly satisfying challenge. And I’m a sucker for intricate rail systems
@jfgs930

That yunobo limited movement idea is video game design gold. This is why you’re a top tier Zelda-tuber! I agree that the dungeon is well designed but too easy to cheese. I’ve done it twice now and both times I’ve sprinkled some cheese on it. This game and especially BotW spent a lot of time incentivizing players to explore every little nook using your new powers and climbing abilities, but this dungeon tries to unteach that a bit.

SPOILERS for the desert dungeon/ Restricting the ally's hability to teleport directly to Link is what they've done with the Spirit Temple. In the last room with the elevator, you can reach the boss room easily using ascend but Riju his unable to follow you without taking the elevator and you need her to trigger the fight with the boss, forcing you to explore everything the intended way. However she can reach Link anywhere else in the dungeon.. I have the feeling that they knew and decided to let it be a thing so to not frustrate the player, taking into account some may be pretty young. We have to consider the issue of losing the ally somewhere. There's so much ways for Yunobo to accidentally slip to a lower level in Gorondia, especially with his cannonball hability...

Agree but to offer a counter claim. As you progress through the dungeon and solve the puzzles, after a puzzle solved, it creates a spawn point for Yunbo. He’s still disabled from following if you decide to cheese an aspect but you can have him spawn at certain checkpoints near you.

Fire Temple was my second favorite to the Lightning Temple. I did climb the walls at about two points, but for the most part just did it the way it was designed. It honestly didn't occur to me to use rocket shields or Ascend for most of it. The map could get a bit tricky to interpret, but overall was a really fun time.

I never understood the hate some people have towards this dungeon. They'll say "oh it was so easy, just hoverbike your way through". Well no shit, you just skipped all the puzzles. I think it's genious to have a puzzle-heavy dungeon that also embraces the open nature of the game, so each player can complete it either the intended way or find some ingenious way to cheese it. But I gotta say, that Yunobo restriction you proposed sounds amazing! Maybe people wouldn't complain as much if they actually took their time to do the damn dungeon. (There's also the fact that they already applu this restriction with Riju, so it's not like they couldn't have done it here as well) Talking about that, I feel like every dungeon in this game follows a slightly different design philosophy, and they're all great (some more than others) More "traditional" Zelda dungeons: - Fire Temple, as stated, it's a traditional style dungeon that also embraces the open nature of the game. You can complete it normally or find ways to cheese it. Very fun either way. - Lightning Temple, full on Zelda style dungeon, no cheese, linear introduction and builds upon its puzzles. Great stuff. Botw style dungeons: - Water Temple, the only meh dungeon imo, but still a great time. Just like the Divine Beasts, go to the four locations and complete a simple puzzle. - Wind Temple, similar in concept, but the execution makes it stand out more. This is more of an experience. Totk style dungeon (idk how else to call it lol): - Spirit Temple, this is just a flex on the physics engine. Each room has a series of puzzles, sometimes disassembling parts of the dungeon itself to build contraptions. Then you get the mech and test all its functionalities on the way to the boss. There's really nothing like it, and super fun all the way through.

Gorondia was my first real venture into the depths. I had gone down to find Robbie and had jumped down chasms to mark them on the map but no real exploration. At first I wasn't sure what to make of the area, it didn't feel necessary to progress and I hadn't found anything worthwhile down there until this quest made me find the temple. I think the sparseness of the Sky (where you find the maps that lead you to armor pieces in the Depths) tricked me into ignoring a lot of stuff and just following the story. Once I beat the temple though I realized how much value was down in the depths, around the temple was the first real weapons I got from the Soldier's ghosts, I had found them before but it was just traveler's stuff that I felt wasn't better than the decayed higher tier weapons I did have.

Agree 100% with all your points here! I was discussing this dungeon with my husband the other day, because I found it so interesting that we approached it so differently (he took the cheesy route, I solved all the puzzles the 'intended' way). It's the only dungeon we had really different opinions on (I enjoyed more than him), and I'm assuming that's why. I couldn't for the life of me figure out a way this dungeon could have fixed the cheese factor though without changing the whole nature of it. Your Yunobo solution was such an 'aha' moment for me the second you said it!!! Simple, elegant and freaking genius. Makes me wish Nintendo would implement it in a future update (def not happening, but a girl can dream). Regardless, what a cool dungeon and setting/point of interest in the depths.

I enjoyed the buildup to this one. The monster on the peak was fun, but realizing it wasn’t the boss was odd. I clearly remember struggling to enjoy this dungeon more than with any of the puzzles. The minecarts are a fun mechanic for puzzles, but they’re so unnecessary for this dungeon it almost feels like they added them for effect. I reached One of the locks before realizing I could just climb the walls and glide to the others. I had a lot of fun with the boss though, very satisfying to slam it in the face with Yunobo

I’m bad at spatial understanding and got hopelessly lost in the fire temple. I apparently forgot you could use Zonai parts in all of the dungeons and ended it up cheesing it by just ascending to the highest spot I could and gliding down to the section I needed. But not before I was incredibly stressed about being lost lol Edit: I never saw the room with the rock in the ceiling. Sounds like missing this is where I got lost. Everything would have been so much easier if I remembered I had rockets.

The one thing I "cheesed" in this dungeon is the part where a big metal block falls down and you're supposed to recall it back up. When it fell down, I picked it up with ultrahand, looking for a place to put it. When I thought to use ascend, it wouldn't go upwards anymore! I was very dissapointed about it and thought "wait, so am I locked out of this?" Because I couldn't ascend upwards, the ceiling was too high. I ended up just slowly climbing up the wall... the rest of the dungeon was really fun but this soured the experience for me: it was unintended cheese! I'm a bit dissapointed in the fact that the devs probably thought "oh but what if they make that mistake and don't use ascend? Oh well, they can get there by just climbing the walls!" instead of giving us another option (for example, for another metal block to fall down if you move the first one, like shrines do)

About to do this dungeon on my second playthrough, so perfect timing for a review. 😎 Your suggestions about Yunobo makes perfect sense. He’s not a flier, so Link should need to not cheese his routes. When I was in a cave of Death Mountain, I wasn’t sure how to get back to tracks to head up to the volcano, so on a lark I tried ascending through the cave roof up the side of Death Mountain. Sure enough, I popped out right where I wanted to go, the a few seconds later, Yunobo manifested there without any trouble. It made my job too easy.

There is one issue with your proposed change. And that is that even if you prevent Yunobo from warping, you can still build a vehicle to get around it. One of his main mechanics is to ride on the vehicle so you can launch him from the air, and given you need to do this at one point in that part of the game, it wouldn't make sense why it wouldn't work in the Fire Temple.

On my first profile, I did not cheese the water, lightning, or wind temples. I did the fire temple last and attempted the puzzles. I did four of the gongs, then somehow got lost trying to get to the fifth. I finally gave up and cheesed it. On my second profile, I just skipped all of the puzzles in the fire temple right from the start. On a side note, the defining characteristics of an arachnid is that they have three body segments and eight legs. Since Gohma is pretty much always referred to as an arachnid, the Twilight Princess Gohma is the only one that is correct.
@CaptBurgerson
@CaptBurgerson 5 месяцев назад
If I recall correctly the only times Gohma is actually referred to as an arachnid is in the subtitle of the OOT Queen Gohma boss fight, which calls her a "Parasitic Armoured Arachnid" and that TP appearance of ArmoGohma (Twilit Arachnid) Otherwise, it's always ambiguous. Even HW (dubiously canon tho) calls Gohma an arthropod

The fact that you can "cheese" the dungeon is also a part of the fun and the liberty that the game let you have. There is no actual "bad" way to do this dungeon and you are free to do as you like ! So no, the fact that you can "cheese" it isn't a bad thing at all, but peoples just don't understand the vision that the game have about his challenge really.

This dungeon gave me good memories of the Spirit Tracks Fire Temple (which also uses minecarts, and I wouldn't be surprised if that was the inspiration for this Fire Temple), and to a lesser extent Fire Sanctuary from Skyward Sword (where you make platforms over lava by throwing water). Overall, I like it. There's one part where I got stuck for a long time, and it's the one leading to the 4th terminal. I tried my hardest to build a bridge to the large purple boulder so Yunobo could break it, but the bridge always fell off because there was no way to keep it balanced. Then I realized that you could just build a diagonal ramp so Yunobo could launch himself to the boulder and break it. I felt like an idiot for not having realized that earlier. XD

I feel like this dungeon was my Water Temple from oot. Now I'm a weirdo and got the water temple right away my first playthru (much to my bffs chagrin bc she still has trouble with it and I'm a fairly new zelda player) But this.... the first half was fine... and then you reach a wall. There was this one place that you have to make a bridge and no matter what I did to suspend it right to make Yunobo cross so I can get him to do his charge attack on some rocks, I couldn't do it. I was there for, like, an hour before I gave up and moved on. Then it just kept being me going in circles because, yes the map is helpful, but man I wish you could draw on it or leave markers when in dungeons just so I won't keep going to the same damn room over and over because I forgot if I already went that way or not. By the end I was just... climbing and ascending my way through whenever I could. Maybe I'll get it my second playthrough, I dunno. I thought I had it but I didn't. Its a wonderful concept though and even though I was annoyed, the minecarts are always fun. I love a good minecart in a game, I can't resist

This is my favorite dungeon in the game BY FAR, if you ignore the cheese. It scratches the same itch that dungeons like the Water Temple, Lakebed Temple, Sandship and Stone Tower do of being a huge navigational challenge that requires you to really think about the layout as a whole. In particular, I love having to think about hitting the one switch on the side that you cannot reach from below. While Lightning Temple (2nd best) had the basic foundation to be an amazing dungeon, it was way too simple and short compared to this one.

As someone who enjoys puzzles very much and I really loved the environmental lore this temple gave us, this one was my least favorite. The moment I saw all the rails and how they crisscrossed the whole temple I knew I wouldn’t have a fun time because it just didn’t really click with how my brain works. It’s not the verticality of it (which I greatly enjoyed in the Lightning temple) nor the interlocked sections (having to move a switch beforehand, how something you changed on one place changes another part of the puzzle) since I enjoy playing metroidvanias the most but something about the way you were supposed to traverse it just didn’t easily fit in with the way my brain navigates spaces, I think. As someone else pointed out, I did the first two gongs with relative ease but by the third my brain just couldn’t figure out how to move next (I have a hard time with projecting or anticipating trajectories and my spacial awareness is not the best lol)

Wow I really feel this. I first decided to go the cheese route and use the hover bike to fly to every terminal and the. wondered why I didn’t really enjoy this dungeon. Next play through I’m gonna play it the intended way and I have a feeling I’m going to enjoy it much more.

I really like the cheese factor in this dungeon In my first playthrough I did it all the intended way (using the railroads and puzzling out the routes) and when I finished it, I just started understanding the cheese that's possible in the game I started experimenting with zonai devices and went to the glide suit trials. Only on my third playthrough did I figure out you only need to talk to the construct instead of getting to the top on my own to activate the trials Thanks for triggering this memory for me! The feeling of determination of the journey to the highest bits of the map dwarves in comparison to the determination after figuring out what happened to zelda and vowing to save her

I actually think this dungeons setting feels unique. Since it is one of the few areas in the underground that actually has a different biome aesthetic. And diving into a volcano helps set the tone. It didn't really feel the rest of the depths to me. I in general approached this game with the attitude of seing if there WAS cheese to be had, but then not following through, going back and trying to figure out the intended solution. And I am confident it helped me personally enjoy the game more. I'm even going back through and doing a play through were I limit myself even more. The big things that I think would force me to be both creative and push things are not using auto build, and doing a no paraglider run.

👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 it's so nice to see you appreciating the puzzles this dungeon has to offer. :) I thought so much about how they could have restricted your possibilities in the firetemple, but damn! Your idea is the best, how couldn't I have seen that? They MUST have forgotten somehow that they had to take away Yunobos skill to teleport, it would fix everything! But yes, it's kinda odd to justify that when using him as a catapult. It's cool to use him as a canonball , but he needs to come back somehow. Do you got an idea how to solve this problem as well? I guess it would be tedious and annoying shooting him from the 3rd floor by accident and having to fetch him there then. Such a great video! Iam so glad you found the potential of this fire themed dungeon. Despite still having no midbosses, too few enemies (oh, you did not analyse enemy variety in this one!) and the annoying cheesability, it is my favorite firedungeon in the zelda franchise. The atmosphere is the best about it, the chanting, the hallway when you enter it with the 5-locks-gate in the distance (also callback to Ocarina of time), the torches everywhere, the breathtaking scope of the massive structure, the architecture, that ambient creepy music after you activated all terminals and - as you said - the puzzlebox design, that reminds me of the water and foresttemple from Ocarina of time. You're absolutely right, it is a loveletter to the traditional dungeondesign, so sad they didn't polish and test it enough to see the freedom issues that needed to be restricted here. It must have taken you an eternity to create this 3d model of Gorondia, holy shit, awesome work! 👍🏻 By the way, just two things: Ironicaly, this place was the ONLY dungeon to me that felt at least like a "temple"-structure to me. I can imagine the gorondia city surrounding it in the past very well. The other thing, the two last phases of the music, you were talking about were the 4th and 5th, not the 3rd and 4th. Except for the watertemple, all templetracks got 5 phases.

Your video made me realize I really wouldn't mind if Zelda went back to dungeons in linear order if it meant we received a better story. There is so much to do in the overworld and so many directions to go in between.

This dungeon frustrated me. It took me a long time to figure out the proper direction for the mine carts to get to the terminals. I got lost a lot, but eventually got my bearings and beat it. Not a fun time for me, but glad other people enjoyed it more. It reminds me of Ocarina of Time, and the escalation of music. Fantastic discussion ❤️‍🔥 🔥

I struggle to remember as it’s been a while, but I’m fairly sure that I followed what seemed to be the intended path, then I hit a problem and paraglided over to get a better understanding, then started climbing as I missed and ended up somewhere I shouldn’tve been able to get to on the intended route. I get lost easily so didn’t know how to go back to where I’d been to carry on the intended route so just sighed and cheesed it from then on. I also vaguely remember finding the gaps in the rails quite frustrating and if I’d had to walk Yanobo back to the beginning every time that happened I think I would’ve been even more frustrated as I don’t remember them being very forgiving. Still I think it was a good dungeon that I just struggled with. I agree cheesing should be prevented as I was most frustrated when I found I’d skipped a puzzle. 🤔

I really loved this dungeon, didn’t have a hard time at all, more of an interesting one, that sure took a bit longer than the Wind Temple, but I appreciated that! I loved the vibe, the lava below, the lava falls all around, the stone aesthetic and the Minecart rails Actually felt like a dungeon from the last games, and I loved the boss fight, not too easy, not too hard, not too simple

I cheesed the fire temple a good amount. Especially with that ceiling gong, only after the fact did I realize how I was supposed to do that one. I think I spent most of my fire temple time building a giant ramp for that one gong. I kept reaching the part limit and had to redesign 😂 My final ramp was very simple, tho it was atop quite a pile of rock sheets 😅

8:56 - YES! I feel like our complaints for a lack of proper dungeons were taken, but there was no effort into naming these places into something meaningful. For example, Ocarina of Time temples do, indeed, feel like *temples.* Non-temples like the Ancient Cistern and Sky Keep from Skyward Sword, Forbidden Woods and Tower of the Gods from Wind Waker, or the Arbiter Grounds from Twilight Princess are not named temples just for the sake of it. They are exactly what they say they are. Heck, even Breath of the Wild had better dungeon names despite said names being rather boring.

For the one gong in which you’re supposed to go in from the top level and fall all the way to the bottom to open the gate/door I actually did it by using ascend underneath the room 😂😂 I used a hydrant (a portable one in my inventory) to make platforms on the lava and once under I found a spot I could ascend

Cheesing a puzzle has an interesting relation to the feeling of being rewarded. Short-term, cheesing can be very satisfying, as it in essence makes one feel they outsmarted the developers and lets them get on with things quicker. Long-term, it's probably more satisfying and fun to actually learn/do the puzzles legit as while cheesing is impressive at first chiefly because of that "I think I just outsmarted the developers!" factor, as it becomes more widely known it becomes less impressive and turns more into a sign of lazy incompetence at the game due to needing it as a crutch over "just doing the puzzle." This too as when cheese becomes common knowledge the folk who actually know and can do a puzzle/boss/thing legit becomes ever decreasing, making it again more impressive. I'd also wonder more about the idea that many folk enjoy puzzle skipping. If the point of a puzzle is to put folks brains to work and use some of that lateral thinking ability to figure em out, it's curious how many folk enjoy avoiding that experience as hard as possible. Odd when one of the appeals of Zelda games has always been the once per play through variety of puzzles. Sure, it can be very frustrating to deal with the feeling of being stuck/running around aimlessly, but another skill this develops is the ability to deal with frustration, nonsense and failure. Patience, in another word. Which is an important skill to keep developing when it comes to puzzles or problem-solving, I'd say.

Yeah.... the cheese factor is the biggest issue I have with this dungeon. Like you mentioned, I get they may have done this to allow freedom and control because that's what a lot of players these days want in their games, and that's awesome most of the time, it's what separates games from other forms of media. But it shouldn't come at a cost of the game is meant to be, in the case of Zelda dungeons, a puzzle game. I do feel like some devs can overdo the whole "freedom of choice" aspect but that's it's own whole other discussion. Still think it's a good dungeon, just as long as you play it right.

The fire temple was my third and by that time i had only went to the depths a handful of times (it’s scary down there! I could barely handle the twilight lol) so the lead was super effective on me. I’ll be honest i did maybe two floors and then couldn’t figure out the others. I dunno y i just did not get where the game was pointing me. So i cheesed it :)! I personally just got really high up and either used ascend or glider to where i needed to be. Didn’t even realize the rockets were there!

As a Zelda fan whose first game was Ocarina of Time, I do not love Marbled Gohma's design, it's kind of boring compared to the Deku Tree parasyte one. That said, I’m glad she is back in this game and the battle itself is fantastic and just screams "the Legend of Zelda". The Fire Temple my favorite one in terms of ambiency with all the music references to Ocarina of Time and Breath of the Wild. And having a fire dungeon inside a volcano also hits that nostalgia in a good way. And I think Moragia is a reference to Volvagia in the same way Colgera is to Molgera (?) By the way, expect me to comment in more of your videos, because you really know how to do high quality content.
