I've have one for a couple of months (plus another just shipped) and got the official 140W PSU bundle. It works on high mode just fine, getting just over 4TH/s, and the PSU gets warm but not frighteningly hot. They are great if you need a quiet desktop heater that will run for free and may even earn a little extra $$ over time.
Assuming they responded back to you that it was limited to medium due to the input power from the wall wart you bought not being able to supply 140W continuous power. The wall warts often advertise peak power instead of continuous power.

The power supply is a bit underrated, that’s why it was getting hot. I suggest you get a bigger power supply so you don’t lose power because of heat generation.
It's been dumping and pumping in this range for ages! It's technically just going sideways, sideways means generally stagnant. More emphasis should be put into day trading, as it less affected by the unpredictable nature of the market. Trading has been going smooth for me as I managed to grow a nest egg of around 100k to a decent 732k in the space of a few months... I'm especially grateful to Linda Wilburn, whose deep expertise and traditional trading acumen have been invaluable in this challenging, ever-evolving financial landscape.

The power supply you have isn't quite enough to get it to high power mode, RPM had the same issue. I'm still waiting on mine, order #509. I ordered the power supply with it so I hope I wont have the same problem that you are with your power supply. Right on, glad you took it apart, that would have been my first move as well and now I wont need to.
I ordered mine at the beginning of april. I'm in the early 500s. But I ordered the blue with the power supply. So I believe it's going to take a little bit longer for it to arrive to me. But they're supposed to have an update at the end of this week about the shipping schedule.
What is that rated voltage this miner runs at? If it runs at 20v, then the max would be 100w at 5a. To get 140w at 20v, the ac adaptor would need to support 7a or greater, which this ac unit does not. 140w is only possible at 28v at 5a.

I ordered 4 with PSU they run quietly and efficiently. 16Th/s total. I ordered 3 more to get 28 Th/s. The Canaan PSU gets hot but it is a lot farther away from the plug than the one in your video. I think it is a must to purchase their PSU to get 4 -4.19 Th/s. I'm using them for BCH. They at least mine payout with 2.

How is this a scam? A scam implies you get nothing for your money. Put it this way…. People spend $2 for a single line single draw lotto ticket. For $150 you get 144 chances EVERY DAY to hit a block. If you buy lotto tickets this thing pays for itself in one day. I like these odds. I have 2 of these coming in June. One will mine BTC and the other BCH.

The first day it pool mind 218sats in 18 hours today I will get a metric on a ful 24 hour pool mine Oh, i ordered w power supply... Solo mining gives you a fleeting small chance of earning an entire coin all to yourself. Pool mining means every time someone in the pool scores a hit everyone takes a cut Usually based on your processing power input. Since your input compared to the pool is tiny you get scraps. You’ll never get more than scraps. Likely not enough to justify power costs. It’s a lottery ticket. You solo mine and hope to win the scratch off

Shipping expected at the end of June. I saw a video saying that if the power supply can't supply 140w you won't be able to use it at its maximum. Try with a 140w Apple charger for macbook
I bought 3 of these. Been doing research and stock powersupplys run really hot too, maybe too much strain on it. I'm going to try and get a bigger power supply to take off strain and see if temps are better
They are indeed 99 bucks if you have your own power supply. shipping does cost money you know. And you dont need to pay a tip to indiegogo. Heck you can even order them direct from Canaan's site now.

I ordered mine did not come with a cord never able to get it set up and it still doesn’t work. Been a big pain in the butt plus it ended up costing almost $200. They tacked on a bunch of fees.

Hey Hobby, have you tried to send the 256k hash to an Un-minable wallet and see if you can really get 4000 Gh/s and maybe mine a coin like Nexa? Looks like you could get about 17 cents a day from unminable and maybe stack 50k nexa about every 2 days. Thoughts about maybe trying it? Not sure if they have it controllable or forced to their BraiinsOS pool?

Another commenter said it's the fact that the power supply he used has 140W PEAK power (which is what most power bricks advertise), not CONTINUOUS power (the spec it actually needs to run this miner in High mode).

As far as i understand it is possible but the profits are in the pennies range, so it may be better to just solo miner for a better chance to hit a jackpot. Unfortunately Btc difficulty is too high, so btc cash might be a better choice in mining as difficulty is much lower which your odds are much better in hitting a block.

You didnt buy the 'full setup' WITH PLUG & brick, you bought the cheap version without its power brick. With its power brick youll get high hashrates. So it's not really $99 😅 they got your ass now you have to pay for the powerbrick and shipping

I have 3 on order, but haven't received any yet. my orders are #1714 (blue), #3582 (black), #4481 (yellow). The first 2 I ordered with the psu, the yellow one I didn't hoping to get it shipped sooner... It's basically a lottery ticket every 10 minutes for each machine.
looks nice but how long do you need it to run until it pays itself off, and start's making a profit. I do like the low power, and price. My place I can't run anything high power like most btc miners do. That's why I gave up mining. Sad...

140 watts is 140 watt hours per hour. How many hours in a month? 720 That’s 100,800 watt hours in 30 days. Or 100 kilowatt hours Multiply 100 by your energy rate and that’s that. 10c is common. That’d be 10$ I have solar/powerwall so I won’t be pulling from the grid- so I’ll not pay anything- but I’ll send less to the grid. Probably 1-2$ worth in winter/spring/fall and 2-6$ in summer worth of lost income in the form of a reduced check.
@@RainBitcoins these units are non profitable. If they were profitable to run then Canaan would run them not sell them. They will barely keep your feet warm nothing more. Solo mining expect one BCH block every 22 years on average current difficulty. High five to you

What’s your goal? Pool mining will only generate a small amount of Sats per day, which most pools you won’t even be able to withdraw from because of the threshold. Solo mining is buying lottery tickets for the electricity cost.

you can mine at a regular pool, many pools out there that have low threshold payouts. Brains being one of them, which the miner is already setup for out of the box.
