An Anglo-Italo-Japanese aircraft design/manufacturing co-operation is sure to be an absolute giant one day, possibly soon, in the military aviation world. BAE has consistently made excellent aircraft, Japan's industries are world-renowned for their reliability (especially Mitsubishi) and the Leonardo company, while not as well-known or world-renowned as BAE or Mitsubishi, are still incredibly competent. It seems a new aviation giant might be brewing - especially if the co-operation between these nations and companies leads to the creation of a joint business, as has happened before in some of these collaborations.

The Japanese bring fresh ideas remember the first AESA system developed for the Mitsubishi F2 was soon copied by the Americans then later the Europeans . @uingaeoc3905

@ianjardine7324
@ianjardine7324 28 дней назад
@@uingaeoc3905 That's always been the issue when dealing with the French. They aggressively demand more than they put in and throw a hissy fit if anyone argues. They blocked all sales of the Sepecat Jaguar until the plane was obsolete to flog their own domestic copy to smaller nations. They caused nothing but problems and delays during the Panavia Tornado project leading to huge cost over runs and long term issues with the final aircraft. When the pulled the same crap with the eurofighter program the other partners told them to get fcuked so they stormed off and built a cheaper knock off using stolen tech designs. The French think cooperation is a dirty word and partner is synonyms with servant. The joint carrier program was Britain designing the ships and letting the French finger paint theirs to keep them happy and quiet. Otherwise the ships still wouldn't be built.
@uingaeoc3905
@uingaeoc3905 28 дней назад
@@ianjardine7324 Correct! Other examples - I am sure you recollect - Concorde , only experience with large airliners was the Caravelle a mini-Comet derivative;. The AFVG they demanded the lead although at the time their sole experience was with Mirage, knock off of Fairey Delta 2, then withdrew because 'why nort buy Mirage!' so withdrew so we had to soldier on with old stuff. The so called Anglo-French Helicopter deal - we bought their Puma, Gazelle and they cancelled their main order for Lynx., this was at same time as Jaguar were as you say they cancelled most of their order and the Carrier version - luckily the agreement meant that BAC got all the plans and we did not have to source from them and it did hav ecome ecport duccess from our side afterwards, India in particular among others. You mention Tornado - they withdrew from the consortium because, well they said the rest of us should buy their Mirages, causing development delays - deliberate of course; repeated this game over Typhoon. The TEMPEST project is only a research and development plan for a technology demonstrator. The British and Italians launched a fighter development program for actual deployment based on the information obtained from the Tempest Project. Japan had its own F-X program (next-generation mainstay fighter development program), which was jointly developed with an American company. The GCAP program merged these two programs and restarted them as a trilateral joint development program.

The only time the wing cracking problem has occurred on the Mitsubishi F-2 operated by Japan was during ground endurance testing of the test aircraft. The F-2 is undergoing continuous modernization and refurbishment, but due to the limited information available, lies like the old defect problem are still being told with impunity as if they still exist. If there had been a major problem like a cracked wing, anyone would know that the aircraft would have been taken out of service by now. Also, something that has not been mentioned much is the participation of American companies in the GCAP project. The GCAP project is also involving U.S. companies, whose components deal with state-of-the-art technology and sensitive information, such as sanitary communications and datalink equipment. Therefore, the GCAP project has already received prior consent from the US government. With its huge development costs and parade of cutting-edge technologies that handle sensitive information, the GCAP project is one of the most realistic development plans in recent years.

Honestly I think all of the other 6th gen programs should come together that are not politically impossible, so Italy, Japan, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Spain, India and Brazil. all taking production of parts at first, but then sharing all data on how to build the whole craft so places like India and Spain that are mostly interested about building up their own production base can still do that, but also spread the development cost out. Sweden would have been HUGE to have on board as they usually create the most practical stuff. Their Gripen fighters with their focus on dispersal operations are one example of that: easy to maintain out in the field with mobile support crew and tools, easy to relocate with how they don't require a specialized hangars or runways, and cheap to operate due to the plane being designed for all these things. I still hope that Sweden will reconsider and join the program, although depending on how high-tech and costly the plane ends up being, it may not fit into their military doctrine of going for the most practical defensive tools... We'll see though, even if they don't rejoin in 2031 or whenever, the whole of Europe will still benefit from having domestically produced stealth planes capable of a variety of missions and payloads! :)

Gripens always had a certain degree of foreign components in them, heck, even the engine is imported. But this doesn't change the fact that they are easier to service, cheaper to operate, and offer features that simply aren't present in any other platform. This is what I was talking about: Swedes know how to build reliable platforms that are perfect for their intended objectives. @@bitw00f "I said that they know how to design PRACTICAL solutions" Everyone knows how to do that. What is designed is what is required by who want you do design things. Swedish did the Gripen in that way cause their Airforce asked to have that particular peculiarity. I don't get your point really.

There is not enough money going around Europe to afford two 6th gen fighters. Idk what the dispute with the FCAS program is, but I would really love to see these two programs converge. With Airbus, Dassault and Mistubishi on board, what could pussibly go wrong?

Multi-role aircraft are always a compromise, make fighters that are fighters and bombers that are bombers.

Is GCAP Better than NGAD? Well, granting that NGAD got at least temporarily shelved.. by sheer virttue of actually being an extant programme? Yes. 6th gen fighters are going to be absolutely wild.

Its all fun in games until you realize the SR-72 might be in production right now.

I mean it might exist but the 71 was a recon plane not made for combat, I doubt the 72 would see a major shift in that aspect.

@@powerhouse6165it’s the same purpose, probably will have some kind of optical dazzler or laser for disrupting of destroying missiles that do manage to get too close

Interesting that Germany, Spain, and France have not signed onto this agreement, given their prominent role on Typhoon.

3 countries don't have a 5th generation aircraft... Hmm... Let's start making the 6th generation! 😁 If it's that easy, we need to create the 26th generation right away😎😂

Innovation is evolving so fast that by the time they start manufacturing these they will be outdated. Hopefully they evolve in a way that improvements can be made easily and where this could end up being a gen 6.5 or even gen7 aircraft. One thing just touched on was the laser weapon, the UK is at the forefront of laser technology, and while America develops big bulky laser systems with crazy cost, the UK is more about compact systems that are maybe slightly less capable but more than capable of getting the job done where America can't, and at much better cost.
