I love how bungie's music team and composers blend and manipulate their music so well. The boss music doesn't play from start to finish if say you where just listening to it on RU-vid or a download. The parts of the song typically play depending on the action currently happening in the boss fight. Examples include what phase of the boss you're at, are you in the dps damage phase of the boss as well as you just beat said boss etc. Hope that makes sense. Dynamically playing parts of the song is the best way to explain it.
@@fumetsu397 heretical omen is a good example also. The triumphant part of the song only plays after rendering him vulnerable and you enter the dps phase.
@@fumetsu397 My favorite raid is Garden of Salvation simply because of the Vex dubstep at the end. I do like my orchestral pieces, but dubstep fits a giant Vex robot really well.
@@anultragreatsword926 I personally love the electric violin towards the end of encounter 2. Absolutely great raid, but I get that people don't like it because of how long and frustrating the final boss can be.
@@trickytreyperfected1482 Temptation? Yeah that one's really good too, I like it the more I listen to it. I've done the encounter a couple times and I don't think that it's that difficult.
Campaign’s have their issues but overall destiny is probably my favorite sci-fi series at current. If you’re interested in the universe a channel called my name is Byf has like a video that’s a couple hours long. Destiny’s current major story arc revolves around two competing philosophies, one called sword logic, the other is bomb logic. It’s a wild ride if you pay attention to everything but more dumb fun if you don’t.
I agree with everything Story Seeker said, but something to keep in mind is that Destiny 2 is not free to play, it's free to try. The free part of the game is essentially a big demo (though you can have fun with it for a while). Destiny is very expensive if you want the enjoy all the good it has to offer. If, after playing, you decide to buy an expansion, Witch Queen is one of the absolute best
It’s a clash between Rhulk brass and the the guardians string . It a clash of gods . the drums never stop they represent that no this battle will never stop It a fight to the death guardian or Rhulk only 1 will be alive .
To put this piece into context: This the final boss theme of the newest raid in Destiny, where we infiltrate a sunken Pyramid ship, essentially one of the fleet of our main enemy. This boss is the First Disciple of essentially our biggest antagonist yet and a leader of the Darkness. This boss single-handedly genocided his entire race, subjugated several others, and is(or, was) arguably one of the most powerful beings in the canon as of right now. Typically, Destiny tracks have a part that plays once the boss enters its "damage phase", in this case beginning at 3:47, where one of the main motifs of the game EXPLODES into the song. As you say, the track changes at this point as this is the point when the Guardians(us!) start to gain the upper hand. We've gotten past the Disciple's tricks and mechanics, and now it's time to counterattack. This is genuinely one of the best raids to come out and it was nice to see your breakdown.
@@GeckoInept Yeah he wasn't taking us seriously until the final stand when he was like "oh shit I was bout to lose" and used that darkness to consume us, but it was too late at that point already.
Also, it is important to note that the "Darkness theme" we hear in the first few seconds of the song is more triumphant, mean, and intimidating, instead of the mysterious evil theme we have heard in the past, when the Darkness was still unknown besides the pyramids. It represents that the Darkness is HERE. NOW. Basically, the Darkness saying, "I hope you're ready Guardian, because the time has come." I love Bungie's musical storytelling so damn much.
You can also hear how at that section the strings actually take the spotlight with the guardians/lights motif. But at 4:46 brass section recovers, aka how Rhulk regains strenght and we go back to the symbols phase. This time they add the choirs. Also important to note one thing he says, “The drums keep it constant and together” and it’s basically the dichotomy we’ve seen in the game “The line between light and dark is so very thin” or “light and dark are just faces of the same coin” that’s why I believe in some point brass is the counter point and other moments strings are the counter point. And let’s not forget that damn intro, massive intro, is the same darkness theme/motif we’ve been hearing here and there, first was really subtle and here it finally is present without distortion!!
I second this! Every time I do the Deep Stone Crypt raid, without fail, EVERYBODY in the group yells "SHUT UP SHUT UP" when Deep Stone Lullaby is about to come on. xD
Funny you should point out those two particular motifs as the dark and heroic parts because the dark one is called Salvation and quite literally the theme for the Darkness. The heroic theme is called Guardian and well, it's the Guardian's theme, aka the player.
Also, the Darkness motif typically plays at the start of the mechanics phase, and the Guardian motif plays at the start of DPS phase, which is just genius ways to do it, because it combines an excellent blend of music with the perfect moment to hear it.
The Darkness motif had snuck into a lot of recent Destiny music, and it was a cool thing to spot. Then we get this track, and it opens with this not subtle, not snuck in mid track or during a phase, but right at the beginning, huge brass blaring 'YOU ARE *OURS* NOW' and it was the best thing.
Everyone is recommending Deep Stone Lullaby (which isn't bad), but I would actually recommend "Look Within" instead because it fits the more heroic tone rather than soft. Plus, Deep Stone Lullaby is really only as impactful if you're in the actual raid imo.
I'm gonna have to disagree with you there. I heard Deep Stone Lullaby before I even had the chance to play the raid. All it did was make me want to play it even sooner. It was such a beatiful piece of music.
So synthetics (to my mind) usually come with a bit more meaning for the Destiny franchise, same with strings. Synthetics often come in representing the Darkness and its followers, while strings refer to the Light and its followers. Music actually plays a really important part in Destiny’s world. like Savathun’s song was used to cause a political uprising in the main city, and allow alien robot zombies in. There’s also the death song where anyone who hears it dies, (you actually see it’s effects in a lore book and it is terrifying) that song was also once a song of life corrupted at some point.
Wow, I have no words. I really enjoyed this track, and I think I know the main reason why: DRUMS. For me, if a track has drums in it, I'm going to enjoy it so much. This is one hell of a banger. And it's also menacing... This "First Disciple" sounds like a one mean son of a bitch. I hope there are more tracks like this in Destiny.
The namesake is for Rhulk, The First Disciple. He committed genocide on his race because he felt like it, then exterminated several other races also because he felt like it. Among the several literal gods, mechanical abominations, and reality-bending dragons we've clapped, the First Disciple to the Witness is by far the most powerful and menacing enemy Guardians have faced. He's a servant and the right hand man to the commander of the Dark fleet, which has one singular goal of returning the universe to an expanse of absolute nothingness.
If you hear the track you will also distinguish two different rhythm. The first rhythm is like a dance cause you have to do a mechanic to not get killed and is a very schematic mechanic in which you have to keep a constant rhythm in your action. Later on the boss accepts you to a direct melee fight where you have to break his armor and after that start the real beatdown between the boss and the team. In the second phase the mood of the boss change from "let's see how good you are" to "how the f*ck you dare challenge me you foolish humans". It's a very well done soundtrack for an amazing boss fight
@@עידומחלוף-ר4ח absolutely yes. Imagine having a death dance with a semi-divine cosmic warrior who does jojo pose and have a badass soundtrack. That's Rhulk, the first disciple
Man I only got into destiny last year but I have to say their soundtracks are top notch. My favorite in the whole soundtrack is "Reckless" from Beyond Light
The boss for this fight is really sick, it's the first time we've had a raid boss actively try to hunt us down during the fight. I like to think it's foreshadowing how more fights with worshippers of the Darkness is going to go, they don't play by our rules. The raid encounters now are a far cry from what they were back in Destiny 1, it's a shame so many people still sleep on Destiny 2.
For one, it is in the top charts for gaming in general, it's not exactly slept on lol. 2. I'm excited to see where destiny goes after the Final Shape. All of this is setting up a totally different world to play around in.
A reaction of Gunslinger or The man they called Cayde, two of my favourite songs of Destiny 2 forsaken. Journey is my favourite but you already did a reaction of it.
Really excited to see you covering The First Disciple. It's a track I've been listening to a lot lately. The intro that you highlight is the motif of the Darkness and has shown up quite a bit as it's taken centre stage, while the heroic sections of the piece are a motif from 'Guardian,' a track off the soundtrack of the original Destiny that's been with us for more than seven years. The Guardian motif even appears in the tracks that you've previously covered on this channel.
Vow of the Disciple Raid: "Rhulk the First Disciple" 0:39 Beginning 0:50 Mechanics Phase 2 part 1 3:47 Mechanics Phase 2 part 2 4:17 DPS Phase 2 4:47 Wipe Mechanic 2 5:40 Mechanics Phase 3 Part 1 9:15 Mechanics Phase 3 Part 2 9:44 DPS Phase 3 10:14 Final Stand 10:45 End
All the motifs give me chills. I know you’ve got it pretty much correctly. The mean brass section it’s the trademark of the “Darkness” or the main antagonist of the game. During several years that motif that plays at the very start was hinted in several parts of the game, muted, deformed but each time being more and more defined till this theme came out, then, the trumpets/violins play for the guardians/light (us players, heroes and our power) and the choirs are for the traveler itself (our good side god). You can get the moment when string section dominates, that’s when the player starts to win, then brass regains energy (as boss fight goes back to pre-dps phase) You at the end can hear the strings and brass talking to themselves, basically in destiny terms, guardians win by mastering both sides dark and light. And the synthetic part, that synthetic part is The Witness(the boss of this boss, the real bad guy) trade mark, d2 players will remember that ringing everywhere. The layers being stripped it’s for the gameplay purpose when players are between phases to “give a break”
I doubt it would be the kind of song one would make this kind of video about, but I would like to nominate the Salvation OST from Destiny 2: Shadowkeep
my favourite thing about this piece and the music for the fight, you spend a long time doing mechanics in the fight before you can damage the boss for a brief period, this is where your team pumps everything they have into the boss, and this 09:44 is the guardian's theme, the player's theme, and it plays the second you begin damage phase, i think that is beautiful storytelling through the music, this is us, overcoming the enemy
At 7:20, the time signature is in 6/8 for a good while but then changes to 9/8 then back to 6/8. At one point before it changes to F minor it changes to 5/8 then back to 6/8. Just before it changes back to D minor it changes to 7/8 before resuming back to 6/8. Oh and there’s another spot where it changes keys to Eb minor and follows a similar pattern to the F minor section and then changes back to D minor after a 7/8 measure. This is the curse of being a music major and having Absolute Pitch.
Also the brass sounds it’s a detail Bungie has been putting year after year with more presence in many OST because it symbolises that the Darkness is near us
the music ramping up as the “doomsday device” is almost finished charging while the despair sets in as the Disciple readies his final attacks with the sliding vocals coming in really ties it all together. all in all, this raid was just a teaser for what’s to come, and it was done splendidly well
When you noted the song was going in a different direction, it was doing a motif of the song "be brave" also from this game. A great song in and of itself.
I absolutely agree on the drums being a major factor in this song The soundtrack version of the song does not reflect the dynamic audio mixing they do in-game though, when you first start the song in-game the drum track is literally all you hear until you do more damage to the boss character There are youtube videos where they record the music as it plays in-game with the other sounds muted, you should check it out and witness how addictive that drum track truly is for people who play the game
18:33 that’s the track switching from its (Action), to (High Action)! You’d also hear the (Ambient) and (Tension) layers, these are used to represent your phase in the encounter as things are changing. Drown in the Deep has great (Ambient) and (Tension) pieces, and every part of the action for the 3 phases is very satisfying. In this encounter there are three phases, and the in-game version sounds much different, starting to add instrumentation layers over time before resetting for the next phase. At the start of the succeeding phases (of which there can be a maximum of 3 for this boss) the music will 'grow' even more between, so it's not a full reset. At the low end of his health bar, he enters 'final stand' in which the music becomes "the most intense".
This track kind of tells the story of the fight it plays during which makes it even more awesome. It begins with an overpowering rendition of the Darkness theme, transitions through a bunch of stuff, then moves into the Guardian theme slowly overpowering the Darkness motif towards the end.
Day 67 of requesting House of Sacred Remains from Castlevania: Lament of Innocence. Beautifully atmospheric track and one of my fave's from video games in general. It'd be awesome to hear what you think of it. It's the theme of a level set starting from a cathedral and ending in the crypts through lots of library areas, it's not a particularly significant or infamous level at all but I think the track really reflects the hallowed grounds housing sacred relics beautifully. The 4 minute upload from the Castlevania Sound Team is the one to listen to.
the song starts with the first dunking section of the encounter, where you lower rhulk's shield. 2:14 is where the rhulk retreats to the second area, where you weaken him to be able to do damage. 3:47 is where the Damage phase begins.
Thank your for the upload! Also I don’t know if you ever have but my favorite game soundtrack of all time is Nier’s. Have you heard the Song of the Ancients?
You might really like the soundtrack to Grasp of Avarice dungeon from Destiny. It's a mix of these heroic themes with some piracy and treasure hunting fun.
9:14 is in the game when you've removed his "shield" and you are now able to damage him. This is why the French Horns come in so hard, they're basically the unofficial instrument to represent the Guardians. So you get that wildly triumphant melody when it's OUR time to kill him. It gives me goosebumps every time, it hits so hard.
I don't know if you'll see this or even react to it but you should listen to the Frostpunk OST the entire thing is musical masterpiece Imho and not many people know about the game let alone the amazing music.
I’ve listen to this particular track many times, and this video as well. What’s really awesome about this piece is that it describes the flow of the conflict between the two participants from start to finish. The brass and synthetics represent the Darkness (mainly Rhulk, the titular First Disciple of the Witness) and the strings and other instruments are the Light (us players, the Guardians). Both of these motifs are trading melodic jabs at each other all while the drums maintain the pace of the fight throughout! Funny that you mention how spacious the song is, because this occurs inside one on the Pyramid ships associated with the Witness; a cavernous, almost hollow interior with very few structures to navigate throughout.
Little tid bit of info about the climax of the song with the really triumphant brass section, but those are the same notes with only slight variations as the Vanilla D1 main menu theme called “Guardians” (OST 7).
Please listen to all the raid bosses (other than Vault of Glass, that one only feels good in the moment of the battle imo). Crotas end sword pick up will always be stuck in my head.
