Fantastic! Hartnell was great. That 1st regeneration is superb.

Hartnell was the best :) He should have had a bigger flourish to leave on, really. I always thought it strange he was 'ill' for Ep 3 - suspect he felt his firing pretty deeply.

@@solidbronzeI always thought the Smugglers was more of a final hooray for Hartnell as he's more active in that story. A swashbuckling adventure is a nice way to wrap up his era, especially since he was ill at the time. So at least he had that before the Tenth Planet, a story which is clear it was designed to give him the least amount of work to do, regardless if he was there for episode 3 or not.

Grrrrrrrrrreat video… Iconic episode, camera trap (perfectly illustrated) and the return of the action figures. I really like the multi-layered control room and this video allows me all the time in the world to reflect on its design. Wonderful as ever. You keep warm as well 😮

I think the tracking room set is one of my favourites: those stairs at the back just somehow give it an added dimension that other sets don't have.

A love the detail about the camera trap. The kind of thing that is obvious when explained, but rather ingenious to originate!

There are a few over the years: a great little idea to get cameras into awkward places without pulling out wild walls.

ANother fab video Andrew, which shows just how clever and brilliant the crews on DW were.

They really were - imagine making 25 minutes of telly in one evening across five sets, like a theatre play: and with special effects as well!

That was fantastic! I never realized how densely they would pack a studio!
@solidbronze
@solidbronze 4 месяца назад
Oh yeah - they stuck tons in, in those early days. It was better later on when they were able to shuffle the schedules, as it let them have fewer or larger sets in the studio at once.

Interesting to see the TARDIS set overlapping the office set slightly. Also, I always fine if really sad that we go from the full sized TARDIS interior from An Unearthly Child to stories where one or two walls is all we get.
@solidbronze
@solidbronze 4 месяца назад
Yes, it's an odd arrangement for the layout, especially given as the other side of the studio has a fair bit of spare space! The minimal TARDIS seems a bit of a shame for Hartnell's last fling too.
@jeremythomaswebb1485
@jeremythomaswebb1485 4 месяца назад
@@solidbronzeYeah it is a shame. But I guess since they don't spend much time in the TARDIS, they didn't see the point of putting up the whole set. Still a shame either way. I think the last time you get to see the majority of the TARDIS set is in the Toymaker story. Even then, parts of it were gone.

You know I worked on animating this twice once for myself and once for the DVD, and there are a few details there I was unaware of. Thanks!

Hi Andrew! Me again! 😄 I have subscribed, looking forward to more of these set plans. Making them in 3D really does help bring them to life! Cheers, Phil Stevens

@@solidbronze Of course, the next step would be to create STL files of your work and 3D print it. Oh, as I’ve subscribed, does that mean that I’m in for a cut of the millions you’ll be making off YpuTube? Asking for a friend … 😜

Also does this studio at riverside still exist?
@solidbronze
@solidbronze 4 месяца назад
Not really: it closed in 2014 and was completely refurbished - rebuilt basically - and is quite a bit larger now. There is still a studio on the site though!
@DVB0
@DVB0 4 месяца назад
@@solidbronze There's three studios there now (there used to be two when the BBC was using it). Have I Got News For You is currently recorded in studio 1. Though it's in a different place in the building to the old Riverside 1. If you want to see what the studio looked like when Doctor Who used it, check any episode of TFI Friday, where the band area was the same studio. It hadn't changed much in 30 years.
