The system might just have my favorite RPG lineup ever, only rivaled by the PS2. I’m glad I got most of those ages ago before their prices became insane.

As a kid in the 90s I was absolutely obsessed with RPG games from the first time I played Final Fantasy III (VI)at age 6. I remember picking this up to rent for the weekend and played it for a little bit, and then never touched it again. It was insipid in every sense of the word.

This was my first Ps1 game actually. Well one of them. We went to a pawn shop and dad bought a ps1 and a bunch of games for a few hundred. Thus, kings field, Spiro, and a few junk ones. Amazing times. I also remember getting ape escape and beyond the beyond for one of my birthdays. Ps1 was a lot of my childhood. Miss those days but still love the games!

Ape Escape is definitely an awesome game to start with. My first two games that I got with the system (which was my first game system) were Crash Bandicoot and Jet Moto, followed by Rayman and Tomb Raider not long after.

I have no problem with slow games that don’t feel like they’re slow for the sake of artificially extending the game’s length. The Front Mission games, for example, can be extremely slow, but also very satisfying, and I like them quite a bit. Also, I’m 31, but thanks 👍

I would give this game a 6/10. it was ok not going to make any top 10 list. but not terrible by any means.

@eduardo if you like RPGs, it’s a great and very likable series. I’d recommend trying the first three, though the others are worth giving a try too

Lol Samson is like a prepromoted fire emblem unit. Badass at first but useless when party gets to his level, even when Samson has his curse removed and class change, his strength doesn't skyrocket. It was frustrating throughout.

@@LegendOfGames Somewhere in the middle I guess. I think part of the allure for me was that I also recently played Shining Force 3 for the first time and that game ranks in my top 10 of all time. So I was looking for more of that in any shape it would come in. I also played it with an emulator so speeding up battles was used a lot.

Played and beat it. It's much better then you or some people are giving it credit for imo. Between critical hits coming from timing hits and all the hidden characters and hidden items and spells.

@@LegendOfGames based on nostalgia this is on my top 10 but lower on the list. Around 8 probably. It was ENDLESS hours of confusing fun as a kid. I remember there was a boat you could buy for like 1,000,000$ on the third city. My brother and I spent over 100 hours trying to grind for the ship cause we thought it was a quest then never played it again til dad picked it up. Lol

@@seraphcreed840 back in the day if you didn’t happen to have the guide or internet access it was so easy to get stuck in JRPGs with no clue where to go (or in your case think you were doing something you should do. I definitely had that happen on more than one occasion.)

It does have an appealing look, but if you play it for about an hour you’ll realize it’s pretty bad.

So the thing about this game is that it’s basically half finished. The first half of the game is pretty good and actually one of the hardest JRPGs I’ve played. The story is pretty fun too. The second half of the game though has almost no story and it’s super high encounter rate makes it excrutiating to get through. I’d give the first half a 7/10 while the second half like a 2/10

Beyond the Beyond is pre Golden Sun and you can see a lot of similarities between the two. Camelot learned a lot in those early days and it shows in the latter. Both are fantastic games

What exactly makes it fantastic? Would you put it at the same level as more positively received PS1 RPGs released at around the same time, such as Suikoden, Wild Arms, Final Fantasy VII and Vandal Hearts?

I played beyond the beyond. And i love it. But i played it in EMULATOR where you can SPEED UP the game. So it isnt that painful

There are some games that have mediocre gameplay and an amazing story, such as Deadly Premonition. This, unfortunately, isn’t one of those games.

I brought it up cause it’s more notable. I had to cut this version of the video short because of the one minute time limit, but I go into how Suikoden would’ve been the best one to get in the slightly extended, non-shorts version.

@@LegendOfGames oooh, I should of watched the other vid. Persona 1 was charming in its own way but definitely is not very polished. Suikoden is a classic :3 Edit: Without revolution persona, we wouldn't have persona 3, 4 or 5. Even if revolution persona is tough it definitely deserves the respect.
