She's been brilliant a very long time, even when she was younger. Most of my fellow Americans stopped following her career after X-Files, but her performances in British miniseries like Great Expectations and Bleak House are masterclasses that every aspiring actor should watch.
Michelle Pfeiffer is so underused. She is such a great talent and I'm happy she's started to be working again in the past few years after so many great performances
She was so great in Dangerous Liaisons playing the saintly woman (quite opposite to the femme fatale role she does so well). And she gave her so much dignity, too. Been a big fan for years, and it's a pity how her beauty (as truly remarkable as it is) has always outshined her talent in the eye of the public.
I'm hoping for multiple awards and at LEAST 5 seasons with Michelle Obama in all of them. Lol as long as Michelle/ Viola is in it then I have a job🤣😂😅 so I MAY be a little biased
I’m here for Viola but can already tell Michelle Pfiffer as Betty Ford is going to be the stand out performance. Spot on characterisation. She will get the Emmy.
This looks incredible!!! Honestly, this streak of incredible performances across all genres from Gillian Anderson is just so amazing to see! She’s become one of (if not my most) favourite actresses!
She is truly one of the great class actresses of our day. She's in the same league with Katherine Hepburn or Joan Crawford. Just gets better as she gets older.
Great cast. The scrutiny First Ladies face is hardly acknowledged until recently, but not enough. Interesting choice to cover Betty Ford. The instinct is to always go for Nancy Reagan but it’s nice to see Betty Ford explored more. I hardly know anything about her. Gillian Anderson playing Eleanor is a dream along with Viola Davis as Michelle. Looking forward to this.
I've studied First Ladies since I was a kid and give talks in my community on them. Betty Ford is my favorite. I've read all three of her memoirs and have read the first one four or five times. Years ago, either VH1 or MTV had a program on the most influential women of the 20th Century and she was in the top 5. If I'm not mistaken, she was either Number 1 or 2. She saved many lives when she came forward to discuss her bout with breast cancer, when people spoke in whispers about such things, as well as her addictions. She was a very reluctant First Lady, however, her legacy is vast. The Betty Ford Center is what I think that she would want to be remembered for the most.
At a time when movies have been a little...underwhelming, to say the least, it's so great to see television studios stepping in to pick up the slack. This looks absolutely stellar! And all three leading ladies, I have no doubt, will give Emmy-winning performances!
I know all 3 of them are phenomenal and will be phenomenal, but I get the feeling there's going to be something particularly special about Michelle Pfeiffer's performance. You can just sense it.
FINALLY !!! We get to see what the Women went through of these Powerful men. Always wanted to see more movies on the wives of these presidents. I think the last movie made about the first lady was on Jackie O
Damn! Viola and Gillian in one program! They are unabashedly amazing ladies. I couldn't recognize Viola in this in so many shots! Wish I had Showtime, but reality strikes. Limited funds. I have to do what I can to pay bills. If it hits Netflix or someplace I can access it, I'm IN!
After seeing Gillian Anderson play Margaret Thatcher, I'll see anything she is in, truly amazing performance. I can't wait to see her Eleanor Roosevelt. Looks great!!!
OMG Viola Davis can portray any human being that has lived or will ever live !!!! Oh and a Big yes for Michelle Pfeiffer!!!! And and Gillian Anderson !!!! Hummm this is too much !!!!!
Michelle is so versatile. I could see her play Nancy Reagan or even Lady Bird and of course Betty Ford. One of Hollywood's most beautiful and most under rated actresses.
A very promising series. In an era where breast cancer was not a topic considered appropriate for polite conversation, Betty Ford frankly revealing her diagnosis and her subsequent mastectomy may have done so much to alert women and save countless lives.
What a phenomenal cast! Michelle Pfeiffer is my favourite of the bunch but I'm sure everybody will blow me away. Viola as Michelle Obama was a fantastic choice!
It's amazing how their differences are celebrated and their struggles are shown... They aren't showing which race is better or anything like that but how women from all races and walks of life have their own issues to deal with and how they cope up... We all have our strengths and vulnerabilities...
Yes! Viola Davis is such a passionate excellent actor! She truly portrays the role of the character she plays/ And Michelle Pfeifer too! Cant's wait to watch!
I guess this is some compensation for seeing Michelle Pfeiffer get shut out of the Oscar noms once again. She was outstanding in "French Exit" this year.
I hope this actually goes into the nuances of being the first lady, the challenges specific and unique to that role, instead of just using these women to push a message.
Very intrigued by Betty Ford’s storyline, when you think about it she was rather plunged into the White House (via Nixon’s resignation) were the other two knew they were going to arrive there if their husbands were elected. Also it’s interesting when you think about it because in a way her mark on this Country left a greater imprint than that of her husband. I can’t think of another First Lady of whom this is true.
You are right about Betty Ford. Being so open about her breast cancer in a time when it was not talked about got millions of women to get mammograms. Imagine how many lives she saved! This led to women demanding and marching for more research making breast cancer less of a death sentence today. Then she opened up about her drug addiction and helped remove some of the stigma in getting treatment. She was a brave and amazing woman, right up there with Eleanor Roosevelt's work for human rights, women's rights and labor rights.
@@bmccarthy3333 I Would love it if they do it as an anthology series. Where may be for a second season they pick another three first ladies to chronicle. I would be particularly interested to see their take on Edith Wilson. She took on an increased role in Woodrow Wilson’s White House after her husband’s stroke. Some have even alleged that she was effectively the President of the United States during that time.
@@antmagor I agree, that would be so cool. So many little known stories about these women. Mary Todd Lincoln has been pigeoned- holed as "crazy" by many, but there is so much more to her story as well. I hope they have on board some great historians to advise the writers- David McCullough comes to mind and Doris Kearns Goodwin could add so much. Really nice speaking with you! 💙
@@BishopWalters12 If we’re talking presidents of yesteryear I would sooner Eisenhower. My one major criticism of him was an unwillingness to stand up to McCarthy, now I apologize if he did and I’m not aware of it. But when I looked back at Republicans who stood up to McCarthyism the name that comes to mind is not president Eisenhower but Margaret Chase Smith. A project on her life is long overdue, but I digress. I would also take Roosevelt, but I rank Eisenhower above Roosevelt because sadly it appears he did subscribe to eugenics. Which is disappointing to put it mildly.
Give ALL 3 an ward already. What a cast!! Excited especially for Eleanor Roosevelt by the incredible Gillian Anderson as she was an iconic, history changing figure. Love Michelle Pfeiffer too so massively excited about her acting though I know NOTHING about betty ford tbh. Love Viola Davis though I'm not much of an admirer of michele obama but still looking forward to her performance!.
Looks amazing!! The stronger the leadership of a man truly is.. The kinder fearless faith filled loving and loyal the wife beside him in the shadows truly is.
Behind every strong man is an equally strong woman who has been relegated to the sidelines of history, as a result of our patriarchal society's standards of success. I'm glad this show is being made.
Meh...they would have been better off going further back in history Frances Cleveland, Dolly Madison, Mary Todd Lincoln, Sarah Polk etc. This just seems obvious and pandering
