We are Jim and Jessica, a husband and wife team who made the leap from city life to an off-grid homestead in Southern Arizona. We've started this lifestyle equipped only with two Permaculture Design Certificates and a whole lot of determination.
We’d like to share our journey of starting a sustainable homestead from scratch with all its ups, downs, and lessons learned. Watch us take on the challenge of modern homesteading, off-grid life, and turning this barren piece of land into a desert oasis.

Way to Grow Dream team! Smart per filter plan, I’m taking that for my garden. Home Depot’s costly, maybe consider construction sites for materials as modern building trashes up to 35% of there materials. Easily found buy calling local contractors who are green, especially. With permissions constructions sites can provide more than just supplementary resources, including the professionals and examples of there work. construction sites are an amazing under used resource in America. Jess seems different.

Hey guys just discovered this channel you should watch (Andy Ward's Ancient Pottery) on RU-vid. He's in your neck of the desert. He shows you how to find huge pure exposed ancient clay bed deposits in your area. Thought maybe something you'd want to watch and reach out to him. He may know where some blue clay beds which is better than (Caliche) for sealing the outsides of earth made dwellings coated with boiled linseed oil. May also make a great episode to meet him. To making your slurry mix for the skin of the domes. Now and in the future. Wink! Wink! 👍😉👍😉👈😮And And maybe a great source of inspiration for you both to make income from. Happy 4th.

You need to check your slope from the collector to the tanks. You need to measure to length of the pipe from collection point to entry into your tanks. Then calculate your drop/ slope ( at least 1/4 inch per foot) to get adequate flow into the tanks. Good luck with the rain.

I would really hate have to filtrate my drinking water! 1 mistake can cost ya YOUR HEALTH OR LIVES. I would run tarps out. 3' high, to catch more surface water that would drain down into a holding tank. More surface you can cover, the more water you will get. Just like solar panels

I wonder if someone can use the rain for the water catchment and direct it into a water wheel to turn a generator to power up your your battery assembly. Would be worth a try I think anyway if someone could build it. I have been watching videos on rudimentary electric power systems. I would think even having a car alternator with a water wheel configured would work.

@MrAnderson4509
@MrAnderson4509 2 года назад
Hoping you have venting on the tanks so your free flow is optimal, I am sure you checked it, but back pressure from the tanks during filling might interfere with free flow, by how much? Idk, it might not be significant. Thinking about the size of my roof, gutter, water flow makes me wonder if your pipes are big enough for what you collect ( I know you want every drop) Other thing bugging me is the plastic pipe, the heat and UV out there seams brutal, I know it is cheeper, that is an important thing, but then so is the water... I am not there to see all this but I thought I would point at what would be on my mind. Not implying anything is wrong ( I am not there to look at these things ) I just know, water is life off grid, even in the city its more on my mind.

In the island of Fiji the cyclones wiped out all the water tanks but a woman's group built earthbag water tanks for a quarter of the cost and everyone though they where mad before the storms. Then the only available drinking water came from the Earthbag tanks, suddenly everyone understood the significance and now all the tanks are mostly earthbag water tanks. In Australia we have designed a nano technology water filter system that enables first world London standard filtered water from water extracted from creeks and sewerage tanks. A lifesaver jerry can will provide off-grid filtered water for a family of 3 for 4 years with over 20,000 litres of water for 3 cents US a litre. So for drinking and cooking you would be well looked after with no risk of illness from bacterial and virus contaminants. Search lifesaver bottle.
