Welcome to the group!
All jokes! We were beyond excited to join & are planning to sign up for the winter rendezvous which we can’t wait for. The membership is worth every penny as we’ve very quickly found out with all the resources
Good for you both! 👍 Congratulations on your AGLCA membership and getting the flag🎉 We had that flag up on our wall before we actually bought the boat, a few years later❤😊
As you look at boats for the Loop, please add Downeast yachts to your list. They are often much better built than Taiwanese trawlers and cruise faster and more efficiently. There is a 1989 Nauset -- 38'? -- in Stuart with new Yanmar diesel in clean shape from what the listing says. Very worth a look! There are a couple of Legacy 40 cruisers for sale in New England that are for sale at less than $160K that are fine boats, although they come with twin diesels. Old single-engine Taiwanese trawlers creep along at 6 or 7 knots. Yes they sip fuel, but doing a Great Loop at that speed can be insanely tedious. You have to run all day -- 8 or 9 hours -- just to make 60 miles. If you buy a Nauset, Duffy or other Downeast style you can cruise at 11 or 12 knots at similar deficiency but twice the speed. Much better!
New subscriber here, my husband and I are also are shopping for a boat (We had boats in California we part time lived on but this is a whole new adventure) It’s nice to see a young couple living life and following their dreams. Best of luck to you.
I’ve been a pseudo looper since before there was “loop awareness” lol. I’ve been planning the loop for years and I now have the boat (Grand Banks 32) and have done the Rideau and St Lawrence for three years. One day, when I have the time, I’ll get going. Lots of inspiring vids out there and so much to learn…. But that is what makes it exciting. I have told many that the Loop is the ultimate couple’s adventure. If you can’t work as a team on this adventure you might as well divorce now lol. It’s great to see young people do it…. Take the time to experience life now. Good luck on the boat purchase…. A big one cause you can’t go back on the deal one the ink is dry. The rule, and I am sure you have heard it, is to fight the “want” bug and get the smallest boat to fit your needs. Where are you guys starting from? If/When you get to Montreal contact me. I am at the RSTLYC and I would be happy to host you. I’m looking forward to following you through the process…. As much of the story as doing it. Have fun!
I just laughed out loud at your divorce comment haha! So true. Team work makes the dream work...literally, for us. I think if we found the right 34 foot it wouldn't seem too small. The first one we looked at just needed so much work and felt so crowded inside. We would love to stop by. Will definitely keep you in mind when we set off! We'll be starting from South Florida, West Palm Beach/Stuart area.
Great video! It is so exciting when deciding on a boat! After looking at many boats, we bought a Cruisers Yacht 4450, and we love it! We are now in the process of maintenance, and some renovations. We are looking forward to hearing more about your journey! 😊
Ahh the maintenance and renovations! I'm sure it's an ongoing thing. We're having a lot of fun in the boat shopping process! Luckily we're not in a huge rush which makes it less stressful :)
Very exciting. My wife and I are in the same exact spot you two are in on our Great Loop adventure. Well maybe a week behind. I hope the trip is as fun as the planning! Ill be watching. We also may be at the crawl in Punta Gorda this Jan. I have family in Punta Gorda and Port Charlotte. Cant wait for your next video. Thank you for the upload.
New subscriber here, and already a fan. I'm planning on buying a boat late next year and starting the loop around Feb-March 2025 from the Carolina's coast. I'm looking forward to watchin your vids as I do my research right along with ya. Cheers!
We're AGLCA members. We're a bit off the main route but plenty of people doing the side trip to Knoxville stop at our marina. We're Harbor Hosts and we enjoy helping members with their needs in a new town. Lots of ways to meet new people.
