Having just watched this before class, and not really planning it, I tried this for first time against a very skilled opponent last night. Don't ask me why it popped into my head, it's just one of those things I found it working itself out. And while I almost pulled it off, I freaked out a little bit when it worked and it ended up in a scramble. My lesson learned is to hang on to the grips all the way through, and I did notice my partner making it more difficult by posturing up, but I did end up breaking him down in the end and dropping him. Gotta love when youtube sometimes empowers the home-study white belt like me to pull off what seems like a complex sweep.

I really enjoyed when he talked about the judo experience with his dog. Fristly because it shows that bjj is his life and he trains constantly (like my old trainer used to teach us). Secondly because i got into fighting sport with my father, which is a son of a farmed and wrestled dogs/cats, even cows sometimes. (if you wanna take down a cow, just triangle her head and put weight on it, after a while her shoulder/neck muscles will lose strenght and she lays down, this really works...but dont try it with a bull, with him better run for your life :D ), anyways great instructional material. Thanks and Osuuuuu!

I had a basic understanding of the table concept but the point was super clear at 9:37. I also find it funny how moves that you learn in the beginning may not work for you but you come back to them every couple of months when the instructor brings them up and all of a sudden the moves are working

Brandon is very intelligent in his approach to BJJ competition - very able to articulate as well. he will make an even better coach when his competition days slow down

Dogs are amazing in getting out of closed guard, they keep pumping with their “hands” and power out

Guys be very careful with this sweep... It is really dangerous to the person being swept. I got a second degree AC separation being swept with this technique... Hurt a lot and I had to stay 2 months away from the mats.
@tomkitchen11
@tomkitchen11 8 лет назад
can you elaborate? how does this happen? this is the first time I've seen this
@belinox6432
@belinox6432 8 лет назад
+Tom Kitchen My partner swept me very explosively, so I didn't have time to post with my free hand. So I landed really hard on the shoulder/neck of my trapped arm. I hurt my shoulder pretty bad and had to stay some time off the mats.

ACL is in your knee...I think you mean "AC."
@belinox6432
@belinox6432 7 лет назад
You are right! I meant the acromioclavicular (AC) joint int the shoulder. Thanks for pointing that out!
@jjhewitt4910
@jjhewitt4910 7 лет назад
Yes! Seen more than one shoulder separated this way. Easy fix: Instead of grabbing any of the grips shown in this video (collar, shoulder, etc.,) attack their elbow. Once the sleeve is controlled, cup the elbow and open it as you lean that direction. Been hitting this sweep for years that way. Works every time and you partner doesn't hit the mat with as much force. Plus, they often set that elbow down first rather than the shoulder. Try this variation!

My instructor has been trying to get me to do this for years but I was missing one key detail. The foot on the far hip limits movement. Bammmmm as soon as i figured that out the move started working.

How would you follow up after the sweep? Do you hug the legs and and climb up into mount, do you circle around to north south? You seem kinda neutral after the sweep.

very cool technique! When someone grabs your wrist or your gi, hapkido has fantastic techniques against those. I know Hapkido and BJJ can be blended into an unparalleled martial art.

Just grab the collar with right hand, ,sleeve with left,flip him to left side hard, and mount. No passing sleeves off,easy and simple. I'm not saying what he's showing is bad, but my way is less convoluted. .

i have one question i am missing part of my left arm i only have it developed to the elbow i am doing dlr guard but how can i still control my dlr hook with out grabbing my opponents ankle that seems the trouble i have been having can u please give me a helpful tip thank you
@poolkrooni
@poolkrooni 9 лет назад
ivan delgado Could you specialise your DLR on the right side mostly in that case? The ankle hook is quite essential in terms of leg control, unless you get that very deep and turn yourself to his side, I think.

ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-I5ZRVabUcIY.html ... and, let's fade the video right as the guy that tried this move is about to get submitted! :) As a white belt, that convinced me that maybe I should just stick to the traditional guard for now. But man, do I love to watch all this stuff I'm not ready to learn!
