It might be cool to have some tearing of the shirt around the front shoulder situation. Like, before the buttons popped off there was some tearing around the button region and in general the front panels of the shirt under all the tension. Also some residual creases in the now loose fabric from prior stretching. The suspenders digging into the shoulders a bit more and the same for the shirt digging into the second body at the most tense points might be cool

I love the character design. Also I think i'd be easier, if you do the suspenders with curves and not sculpting. Then you don't even have to do retopo for them.

Yep that is the right answer. Another solution would be to extrude edges of a plane with solidify and subdivision surface modifier.

For some reason I like the idea of the feet being backwards so it looks like the feet are actually the torsos idk why. Also if the face is meant to be a mask maybe having the eyes or skin drooping sounds like a cool idea since human skin especially in the face area is quite thin

I have been waiting for this like crazy! lol. I think the "carrier" should not stand so strongly. I never actually thought about it, but this is an old man, and even if he works on farm stuff I don't think he'd physically be able to carry the weight so effortlessly. Definitely not painlessly. So I'd probably collapse him a bit, perhaps add some bend on the knees/spine etc. Ofc most of those effects will be coming more apparent in the animation phase. Remember to make old persons hands! The lines you see going up and down from the lips are something you see in smokers. Even younger smokers might develop them if they smoke too much. Generally though I'd think the thinning of lips is result of collagen loss. You see same happening on the cheeks. Smokers add to that constant usage and heat. When person looses their teeth their chin goes much more up. Absolutely loving this Boro. Keep it up, give me nightmares! XD

Just discovered this project but this design is genuinely one of the most original and creative monster designs I've probably ever seen, I never imagined a monster with a back sticking out it's front like that👌

Someone, who worked professionally with 3D, once said to me, that for projects like this, it is better to always start with a 2D drawing. 3D sculpting takes a lot of time to get to the representation of what you want. 2D sketches are a lot quicker to create and a lot less painful to scrap (if needed) from a time investment perspective. With that said, you can start directly with sculpting, but it will take longer and, from my own experience, the risk of getting stuck in details to early and for to long is higher.

My comment was meant as a response to 13:36, to say that "a certain level of freedom" is by fare not the only benefit when it comes to projects that require to plan with time and money. (So basically as a confirmation, that his first intuition was right and that he should not abandon it, just because starting in 3D right away is more fun)

During gameplay it might be fun if when you fight him the front body-back-hugging thing tore off, and he became more aggressive after that, wanting to replace the huggie buddy he lost

I think as it is a horror character asymmetry is really important, having his arms go to different directions would help that a lot!

what do you think about making the "back guy"'s arms go up instead of down? in your drawing i thought he was reaching up maybe near the farmer's shoulder blades? not sure if itd work in 3d. maybe it would resolve the profile view. overall awesome work.

Yess I was thinking the same thing! I would maybe try make him reaching up, like he was grabbing the back of front guy shoulders to support himself. That way they would also look more “unite”, since the back guy arms would be closer to the front guy body

I was thinking something similar- you could also add onto the whole 'forced intimacy' angle by having just one arm reaching up to the neck and the other supporting the arm at the elbow, like a very secure, intimate embrace.

I love the design. But when you want to track back to your former Idea, you should give the standing person a lot of fat. So the back of the hugger seems like the belly of the standing one at first

That was super cool!! I've always wondered how this process actually looked like because in interviews, artists (usually) just give a look to the most important steps in the development and seeing it as a whole is amazing!! 🥰 I hope we can get more "episodes" for the development of your game!!

You nailed the horror design! Plus it's so satisfying to watch you 3D sculpt a horror character from sketch to 3D. Also for the ending, it's amazing how well the laptop keeps up with the speed while being in silent mode. Loved the video BoroCG!

I think it needs to show more tension and strain on his back , he kinda has another person attached to him , maybe he could be slightly more hunched in his stance

I love watching your character creation process Boro, your concepts for this horror game are looking very spooky so far. Also, have you heard of MakeHuman? It's an open source human character creation tool that comes with an addon for exporting into Blender. Could be useful to make base meshes for your characters, thought I'd comment and share. It's pretty in depth.

What might be cool is in the first encounter with theese guys there shirts are shut and while your fighting his shirt gets teared open and the back is revealed

It’s very satisfying to watch! In your first video I thought that there were worms or something in his belly. Some old people seem to naturally have that kinda gut, so I honestly wasn‘t too sold on there being another torso in there. It’s a lot more understandable now though!

an easier way of making clothing in blender is to follow these steps 1. Mask out the general shape/area of the clothes 2. Extract this mask so its its own mesh 3. Apply a multires modifier and solidify modifier 4. Now move the mesh around to fit the model and sculpt in the wrinkle and folds

TW for Boro: Also try put a trigger warning qheqd before you show the pictures of ED. Because unfortunately people get triggered by it. Not me necessarily but i heard it's safer to have a disclaimer that there is visuals of ED in there

Yeah I agree, just a little warning before showing it on screen would be helpful and maybe a timestamp to where it ends. Also, for people who don't know, "trigger" refers to something that causes someone with a mental illness/disorder to have (usually) strong/negative thoughts about themself, their disorder/illness, or others which can lead to them doing something that may be harmful to themself and/or others

The way you are portraying the idea of unwanted intimacy is outstanding, this character design is a great example of something being immediately creepy and unnerving, but becoming even more horrific once you know/realize the meaning behind it. Similar to seeing a black plague doctor character or costume these days. Yes, a plague doctor is definitely creepy in itself, but you don't truly fear it until you realize that seeing one essentially means death and misery is now abundant around you (maybe not now but during the mid 1300s). I am extremely excited for the gameplay and lore of what you're creating, can't wait to see more

An idea that could show that the arms are under the shirt is that you could see a faint imprint of claws or hands on the back under the shirt

Ohh wild! I was picturing the anatomy to be more cohesive if that makes sense? Like with the clothes on it looks like two disjointed bodies, but under the clothes is actually an anatomically sound creature. Like the arms would have an additional join that connects from the shoulders we see in the front to the “normal” shoulders, and the neck just curves up inside the shirt to meet the head. This works too of course, and none of that would really be seen unless the monster ever takes its clothes off. But somehow I feel like it’s much creepier if this thing only _looks_ uncannily human, but its actual form is truly alien

I like that design pretty uncanny when you look at the side of the guy you would never notice there is an corpse in the stomach while facing the front to the guy at the distance.

I feel like with how low the pants are, the shirt wouldn’t be tucked in most places. Also I’m curious to see what the creature hugging the farmer would look like if you could see his legs wrapping around the farmers legs, sorta holding on tight and really making life uncomfortable for the farmer. He’s smiling but knowing that he’s not comfortable would make him just that lil bit more unsettling. I love how this is coming out

Also I feel like the farmers back would be hunched a bit after having to carry this extra weight around. Anything that shows discomfort would add to the creepy factor. I like the idea of showing physical wear on his body even though he’s smiling through the pain and discomfort

I personally am a fan of making the back more arched inward, as if the weight of the belly torso was literally buckling the spine. It would give it an unsettling awkwardness that would make a viewer shudder as to how it could even move, let alone walk.

You'll really like Yoshitoshi Kanemaki's work he's a sculpture who makes bizarre works. My favorite is the man being hugged by a skeleton but his head is slightly in the ribcage

Best series on yt! I would definitely pull his pants up from the back a bit to contrast the fact that they are so low on the front (mostly because of the suspenders tension but it should also help the gesture from the side) hope it helps and keep it up!

What would be cool is if the back sticking out the gut was the monster's back, and it was all twisted inside to make up the arms and legs and head.

I think what would make the back pop out a little more is, when you get to the coloring phase, to give it a dull pulsing glow, kinda like the creatures in GTFO but not as heavy, just a slight warm pink/orange hue that fades in and out

This was super interesting to see! Seeing the concept drawing I was like 'Yeah this is pretty creepy,' but this, this freaks me out. I feel like I've gained a new fear of old people.

The lips become that way because of two parts, first is the skin structure that changes by aging. It becomes less elastic and the blood flow reduces. Also, the borders between skin types become more diffuse. The other is that the underskin fat reduces, so especially parts of the faces skeletal structure become more pronounced, like the bones under the eyes. That means the lips get thinner and less pronounced too.

3D sculpting is very cool, but did you consider making a retopo? In gamedev having a clean topo will help in the longer run, doing UV unwrapping or making a clean rig. And you seem pretty experienced in this field I didnt knew props for you!

Awesome work! I wonder how it would look to have the hugger's arms go up and grab on the farmer's shoulder, maybe that'd be an interesting shape to mess with? Also, I think it would benefit from some arching on the back and legs in the next iterations, that's quite a lot of weight to carry/hold on the front of the body.
