Got my 35' pole up. Mine was an old school yard galvanized flagpole I bought for $50, weighing 300 lbs, so couldn't lift it with MY wife. Got a cherry picker out and paid him $40. Concrete was $35 at the end of a load nearby. Had to wait for that. Dug a 30" dia x 42" deep hole and buried a 6' x 3" x .125 wall fence post in the concrete, sticking up 3'. Then, we slid the 3.5" flagpole over it. Just to make sure the aluminum fence post didn't bend, at the ground, we slid a 2.5" dia galvanized pole inside of that. Holds up good to the wind out here in the country.
Beautiful flagpole and I love the design of the concrete base. Just a technicality, but the Gadsden flag and the Stars and Stripes should not be flown together because both are officially authorized national flags of the United States of America. It technically should be either one or the other. The Gadsden flag as well as 46 other historical flag designs throughout our nation's history, were authorized as our nation's flag but were never unauthorized for use. Since none of them were ever unauthorized by Congress, they all hold the same honor in the US Flag Code. I actually went rounds with my HOA over the Gadsden flag when they tried to tell me that I could fly the US flag (after I beat them in court over the flagpole in the first place), but I could not fly any other flag in its place. We once again went back to court where I proved that all 48 historic flags, including the Gadsden flag, are currently authorized as national flags and I am legally able to fly any of the 48 authorized flags to represent the United States of America. I have flown the Gadsden flag alone on the flagpole which is now lit up with spotlights so it stays up 24-hours a day, ever since just to rub it in their faces. The wife held the base of the pole down against the open lip of the sleeve while I walked it upwards and once high enough I just lifted it up over the lip and lowered it into the open hole of the sleeve. The pole is not heavy maybe forty pounds. Yes Dylan is our son and after four years of sitting on the edge on our seat he is home.
I suppose it will depending on maximum wind speed but the manufacturer recommends either 1 - 4' by 6' flag, or 2 - 3' by 5' flags for a 25 foot pole. On their website the manufacturer recommends a 30 foot pole for a 5' by 8' foot flag.
Sorry just saw this question. The pole is actually 27 foot long with 25 foot out of ground (exposed) give or take a few inches. the 2 feet plus a few inches sit inside a PVC sleeve that is embedded in the concrete.
A one piece in ground commercial aluminum or fiberglass flagpole should be able to handle a single 5’ x 8’ flag just fine. Actually, it is generally recommended with these types of poles that a single flag’s hoist should be approximately 20% the pole’s hight. (20’ pole = 4’ x 6’ flag, 25’ pole = 5’ x 8’ flag, 30’-35’ pole = 6’ x 10’ flag, etc.) If flying two flags on one pole, I’d personally recommend going down one size on both. (Except perhaps 35’ and 45’) Certain flags like the Gadsden, POW-MIA, and school district flags might look good going down an additional size.
Did you notice the cat in the background? He's the sidewalk supervisor. Why do all that work? Why not just dig a hole in the ground, pour in cement then just stick the flagpole in it?
+VideoImagesByTrig I laid the pole flat down on the ground with the flag pole base extending about 1/2 way over the sleeve hole. I had the wife hold the flag pole base down to guide it to hit the back edge of the sleeve while I picked up the pole from the top end of the flag pole. I used the edge of the sleeve as a backstop and continued to have the wife hold the base down against it while I walked the pole upwards. Your pole is ten feet longer so may need another set of hands or even a ladder to get it straight up vertical. I was able to just keep walking from the top to bottom to get mine vertical and then just drop it into the sleeve hole. I then centered it and filled with sand. Hope this helps...
When I get my own home, I want to install a flag pole and fly the US flag with the POW MIA flag. And have another pole coming from the house and fly another US flag.
+JAY T. The flag pole, hardware, and gold ball at the top is as shiny bright and new looking as the day it arrived. I did replace the original rope about a month ago which was an easy task of splicing a new rope with duck tape to the old and pulling it up and through the pulley and back down. The original flags are also holding their color very well and are not frayed at the edges at all. Very satisfied with how well everything is looking!
+MrHyperode what size are your flags? my flagpole is also 25ft with a 3" from top to bottom the manufacturer recommended 4x6 flags but i wanna go up to a 5x8bin your opinion do you think the pole would be fine with a 5x8 flag? and it cool you bought your son a flagpole.
