This channel is a wargamer's wet dream and I am here for it. I love how the builds are thematic yet optimized, combining "wargaming" and potential for roleplay. Also, I love the story section. Keep going man! Love the builds :D
Thank you very much, I’m glad you like it! I do like optimizing but I always try to have it make sense in the context and theme of the character. Happy to hear you feel the same!
My guy played Polymerization but instead of "Flame Manipulator" + "Masaki the Legendary Swordsmaan", he went Yugioh + MTG. Great build. I like pairing Flames of Phlegethos + Elemental Adept: Fire but for Ashardalon's Stride, but I don't think it existed back then.
It did not but ever since it came out believe me I have been giving Rakdos’ sheet the side eye, tempted to go back for a one shot just to try it on him lol. Definitely a spell I would’ve used at the time!
So you're telling me you made the Red Bull of King Hagrid, and it was BORING? LOL. I'm on my fourth character in a homebrew campaign that's up to level 16. It's a low magic campaign that didn't allow spellcasters (my usual role). First I was an engineer (homebrew non-magical artificer). I retired when I became frustrated with the mechanics of that homebrew. Then I made a Captain Blood-type (doctor turned swashbuckler) using just a rogue. I grew tired of the single attack, so I went out in a blaze of glory and made a cavalier fighter who specialized in tanking. Hector did some pretty impressive things, but after a few close calls, I retired the character to make an elven priest (non-magical paladin/cleric). (We recently unlocked both elves and dragonborn as playable races) I'm going to try to get this one to 20, but we'll see. There's a metal garden island so maybe warforged will be available by then. Or not)
Lol, yea I guess I kind of did become the Red Bull of Haggard. In hindsight perhaps I should’ve made my next character something along the lines of “the last centaur”! But yea it wasn’t so much that he was boring just that after the race swap it felt like the play style wasn’t as intended, I couldn’t do all the things I had set out to do when making the character. I figured that since it already felt different u might as well come back as a brand new character and try a completely new play style. But sounds like you had some pretty interesting builds throughout that campaign! I’m curious about the engineer, how did that work mechanically as a non magic artificer? Besides being frustrating of course.
So i am wondering if you could help me with a build that I have been struggling with for years. It is a human warrior rogue build based on the Prince of Persia from the Sands of Time trilogy. It is a melee skirmishers that has a few tricks up their sleeve. I had several ideas about this build, but in each concept, it wouldn't come together until level 6-8. The core of the build is 3 levels of Rogue for the 3rd level Swashbuckler. I also want to multiclass it to get extra attack as well as other thins, then continue the rest of the way with rogue. The first multiclass idea I had was 5 levels of Battlemaster Fighter, which would give him maneuvers for his cool warrior tricks. After some time, playing more of the Sands of Time game, and learning about the Hexblade, that lead me to my next multiclass idea which was going for 5 levels in Hexblade Warlock for Hex, Hexblades Curse, Thirsting Blade, and maybe even Eldritch Smite. Recently I considered an idea of giving him 6 levels of Swords Bard instead (though that wouldn't come online until level 9.) However none of these makes it even close to what a Sands of Time inspired character would be. So do you have a build that makes a cool skirmishing warrior rogue that is based on the abilities of the Prince of Persia from the Sands of Time games?
That sounds like a really good build idea! If you want I can put that on the video list but if you’re just looking for a short answer this is probably the best I can do: Admittedly I haven’t played the Prince of Persia games so I don’t know all the mechanics involved in them (I’ve seen the movie but I doubt that would do a build like this justice!). However if all you want is a duelist skirmisher with some magic ability then Swords Bard is hard to beat, they have more spell slots, plus magical secrets eventually, plus plus expertise and Jack of all trades for more skill utility, plus plus plus their bardic inspiration basically mimics a battlemaster’s “duelist” maneuvers. With that said though I am very partial to Hexblade especially since it synergizes so well with Swashbuckler. Getting to use Charisma for attacks, damage, spells, and initiative is very tempting. Plus you can get most of what you want by level 4 (3 Rogue/ 1 Warlock) since Hexblade is very front loaded. I do also think the invocation relentless hex could help with a magical skirmishers type build. Totally up to you and what you want to achieve with the character though.
