So I was in West Palm Beach this past week and while there I went around to a few different nurseries. Most of them had not even heard of this palm and the 2 that did said I was looking for a needle in a hay stack. It's rare and expensive but I just found one on ebay from a grower in St Pete. so I bought it!
Thank you so much! I did send you an email a little over a week ago, and I really appreciate it! I am still searching for a beccariophoenix fenestralis.
So i have read online wildly different cold tolerances. Im in 9b. Some say it handles only down to 27. Others say low 20s. Obviously this makes a big difference. What do you think is more true?
I live in the Tampa bay area and have been told this palm is hard to grow? I would like to give it a try but I have very little canopy and shade? Any advice?
It would all depend on where you lived in Tampa, as there are vastly different microclimates. If you are near any bays, harbors or rivers you should be good. If you live out near Lutz or Wesley Chapel, you will get some burn. I would definitely recommend canopy for them in the Tampa area.
I ordered one of these six months ago from amazon, and true to amazon, it arrived unintentionally bare roots. Every original frond died within a month, but it has since grown a new one, and has a horn that looks like it could open any day now. Anyway, my question, I have had this plant in a pot for 6 months, and it still relies on support. If I cut the strings, it still looks like it would uproot and fall over like a baby queen palm. How long do these take to become stable?
Hi Christian, After much salivating I have received a batch of 100 watermelons. One was soft so i peeled the husk and was surprised how thick the husk is. I wonder if u advise peeling them off or if it makes no difference at all in the germination? Give us a shout if you visit London, it would be delightful to meet you. Thank you @jerome_philipon
