+Million Dragon Not sure about that. Bowie loathed Space Oddity and Tony Visconti called it a "novelty song". It got Bowie recognised but was nowhere close to his best
This is pure perfection. Been a Lips lover since I was 7 after hearing Yoshimi on the radio and they still give me a feeling of pure love and happiness when I hear their music 15 years later.
Same here. I was pretty young, would have been about the same age, I guess. Labor Day, my dad and I were at a, not really a festival, but a local thing called "Labor United" at this one park where they have a small carnival, a circus tent, a bandshell going, some tents with different craft artists and local workers unions and other organizations, as well as a large flea market. Anyway, went back to the car after the day was done, and there was an NPR interview on about their new album, and they were explaining things like the meanings behind the songs, and how "Well, the second part of Yoshimi is supposed to be our interpretation, musically, of the actual fight between her and the robot." It was really cool to listen to, and I really wonder if that old interview is still out there.
CPD0123a you should look for it! There is something about this band that will always hold such a special place in my heart. Every song is an experience!
The most fitting act to pay homage to this song. They owned it, beautiful. I saw them play this in Philly in '17, this band is the stuff of legend live.
I love this... simply beautiful. Thanks. I'm gonna be 60 this year... grew up on Bowie and have loved him dearly every year of my life since age 6. This is truly one of the most touching tributes I've seen. Bless your hearts.
Like Bowie's latest album and it's circumstances, that chorus came out of nowhere and was god damn beautiful and epic and super sad all at the same time
Fucking Hell...What a brilliant "hommage" to David Bowie...I am a big fan of "The Falming Lips", I've never been disappointed about the band's music...Stylish with some class for sure !
Another heartfelt tribute to a pillar in the temple of music. just like the Sgt. Pepper's remake, they put their unique aesthetic touch on it, took the parts you expect and did unexpected things with them. Great stuff.
I have watched this now 7-8 times in a row. You've really captured something here that clearly reverberates Bowie (in sound and vision). I am deeply touched.
Just saw them perform this song live a couple of hours ago at the Petrillo Music Shell in Chicago. Played this for the "hamster ball" portion of the show. Most everyone in an audience of six or seven thousand sang along. Was really powerful.
I'm 26 and this really is the most beautiful piece of music I ever heard in my whole life! Just kidding, I'm 45 and the Lips don't mean anything to me anymore.
Here in 2018. Song still brings a tear to my eye. What a true legend Bowie will always be through these tunes. He allowed us all to be ourselves by being himself. As strange as we may be.
Good cover ...the Lips certainly put their own spin on it ....they had the audacity to cover Floyd's Dark Side of the moon and did a cracking job on that ....top band !!
Fucking amazing cover of a song that's been covered to death. Does more justice to his late great musical world than any other Bowie cover that comes to mind.
Heard a snippet of this on Instagram. Had to hear the whole thing to see if they did Bowie justice. Not as good as Bowie but they made it their own while keeping well within the spirit of the song. Fantastic job. 👍🏽
+George Mortimer - And I'd match your Scottish pounds with American dollars to see such a tour... preferably the same show as you and our friend WH Lewis there. Wouldn't that be magical? ❤
