Hi Tim, totally agree about Talon hooks, I have lost far fewer since using these with the claw point. Also the silver bags they come in make a great ribbing when cut into strips. Keep up the good work Tim, I really appreciate the effort you put in to your videos.

I have but I dont think it adds anything to the pattern tbh , the fish dont inspect the flies that closely . The more open the wraps the more likely to catch on the fishes teeth , and this pattern is meant to be hard wearing . Thanks for watching .

Dries in the open wate rlike big reds and fiery brown hoppers will be high on the menu in Sept . Also if we get the weed growth then popper fry patterns around the edges for the fry feeders . The fish will be finding the first of the shrimp so hares ears and shrimp patterns .. Superbmonth to be out on the lake .

Interesting fly. I’ve tied a dozen in 12s and 14. Thank you. Got me to wondering what defines a diawl bach? I always reckoned the body should be peacock herl, but I’m persuadable that the shape of the fly is crucial to the name. Similarly I always think that for a fly to be cruncher it should have a pt body - then some have quill bodies? Maybe, again, the shape is more important? Any thoughts? This fly, for me, is a black flexifloss nymph - and I’m looking forward to giving it a swim and just hanging on! 😂

I think the tail and throat gives the Diawl its profile , just like the sparse hackle on the head of a cruncher . Its shape and form rather than specific materials with flies like these .Materials on flies like this are meant to be played with and developed I think as long as you retain the spirit of the pattern then its ok . I certainly know this has been a proper killer on the reservoirs this season so far for me . Thanks for watching as always .

Tim what patterns do u use when they r on pin fry at gratham?

They haven't been on them the last few years so will be interesting to see this year . The daphnia and midge feeders often get mistaken for pin fry feeders . Rather than try to imitate I usually try and knock the fish off balance by casting a big dry fly like a yellow owl or hares ear sugar cube or popping a blob booby with a couple of pearly pheasant tails past their noses . With an abundant food source like pins you are much better off trying to distract the fish than imitate its dinner ...
