Fascinating story, I've always wondered what the backstory was behind the famous video! I hope maestro Katsaris does one of these videos on the story of him recording all the Liszt/Beethoven symphonic transcriptions.

Thanks for sharing this story! The talent of great pianists, such as you, is always mesmerizing. Merci beaucoup!

Congratulations Cyprien. You are the first renowned worldwide pianist who actually curates his own RU-vid channel, impressive. I love it.

What a wonderful story! Told with equal measures of humour and humility. May it be of some satisfaction to you Monsieur Katsaris, to know how much joy you give through your incredible talent and performances, many of which are generously available on RU-vid. Bravo et merci!

You are, hands-down, my favorite pianist - and one of my heroes - in the crossover from the 20th century to the 21st century. For the 20th century, Leopold Godowsky is my pianistic hero. In the 21st century, Artur Cimirro is my pianistic hero. The three of you changed my musicianship for the better, and I’m so grateful to be alive at the same time as you. I hope I can see you in concert someday, although I’m not sure when that will be. Thank you for this fantastic story; I could listen to you talk just as long as I can listen to you perform. Cziffra is the whole reason I was able to flourish on RU-vid with my main channel, TheExarion. Without his influence in my early years, I would be nothing pianistically. And without you, my musicianship wouldn’t be as rich with color as it is now. Thank you for all of the wonderful music and influences you have provided onto the world, Mr. Katsaris ♥️

Thank you for sharing such a beautiful story! I had the biggest smile hearing cziffra's name. You are my 2 favorite pianists of all time. If incarnation is real I would absolutely believe that Cziffra was a reincarnation of liszt

I played this improvised flight of the bumblebee, the speed, the sore is insane. I keep going back to you, watching you hit all those notes accurately in octaves motivated me to finish the piece. Thank you, you're an inspiration!

Wonderful! This reminds me of similar experiences that Charles Hopkins used to tell me about during our lessons. If you have a copy of the score, would you be willing to share it with me so that I can compare it to the Peter’s Edition and Editio Musica Budapest Edition? I edited it a little to make it closer to the recording and Charles showed me one or two things and even some fingering which Cziffra showed him but it would be incredible to see all of Cziffra’s corrections after György wrote it down! My students who study this piece will greatly benefit. Thank you so much for posting this priceless personal experience of you with the greatest pianist of the 20th Century!

Thank you for the interesting story. Compositions have a biography, too. I am a jazz pianist. It blows my mind that Cziffra improvised that arrangement, certain parts I can hear that he did, others hard to believe. I find Mr. Katsaris' version more vibrant/colourful than Cziffra's, more to my taste, but I must say Cziffra's original recording is out of this world. I haven't heard a version since that holds up to these two gentlemen.

I always Love the stories you tell Maestro, I remember all 😁! I hope you will tell a lot of more story’s and insights about Cziffra, but also the story about how Rachmaninov made mistakes during concerts and ordered the accompanist to keep playing. Thank you 😁

Interesting story, Maestro. Yes, Cziffra was a great pianist; I find the phrase "The best one" a little unfair to the other great pianist, though (I guess it's a matter of taste, anyway). I thought he liked writing music (it can be nerve-racking at times: Chopin used to get really nervous when writing music, example). Cziffra's arrangement of the Bumblebee is very virtuosic but/ and really creative and fun, as well. I have watched the video where you played it and your rendition is really good, too. I wonder how you would interpret it now (musicians usually get wiser and better as they grow older). Nice apartment 🐝

Mr. Katsaris has the ultimate musicianship of Jorge Bolet with a superior technique.
@jean-jacqueskaselorganreco6879
@jean-jacqueskaselorganreco6879 2 года назад
why making this comparison?The two musicians are from totally different worlds of perspective, musical style and physiognomies ,and it seems extremely hazardeous to compare techniques or what yourself think that you perceive of them. Rachmaninov was the most virtuoso pianist alive back in the day, then came Horowitz, and then came Yuja Wang.What sense does it make to compare their way to absolute technical brilliance?We would need weeks to analyze technical skills, compare them,see who uses which ways to get to which results and it would be perfectly obsolete to do so.I don't actually know if you know all Bolet recordings...maybe you should discover just the Godowski recordings...and then we talk again

@@carlhopkinson this is just a phrase. Katsaris, that i know personally, is a fabulous virtuoso, mega quick brain, there is no doubt.You don't explain what you mean by efficient.You should compare them physically as well.Bolet hast enormous hands, a very tall and powerfull body. It is already evident that his ways to get to a musical result is optically and by the rails to get there totally different.If you really want to sustain such therories, it needs in depth explanations of a pianist about a pianist, otherwise, I am sorry to say, it is like to listen to a critic that knows music by CD and then compares the live performance he has to write about to his discography from home

@Cyprien Katsaris: Great story and great Bumblebee video - just watched it 🙂 PS: Any tips on how to get faster octaves? I've seen an old Masterclass video where you taught Chopin op53 and demonstrated how fast you can go with the left hand octaves in the middle section. I'm still mindblown as to how you can achive such speed!
