@@nickturner4150 yes. It is Sherlock Holmes' 166th birthday. Sherlockian societies always celebrate this. Once the Sherlock Holmes Society of Los Angeles (the Non-Cononacal Calabashes) had a horse in a race in Santa Clarita. He came in third, I believe. It was a fun day.
Great story, thanks for making this one, and all the others, available to us. I was pleasantly surprised to find a few I didn't know. (Playing with Fire,The Nightmare Room and Lord of Chateau Noir) A pity no one writes like A.Conan Doyle anymore. He was a great story teller and writer. All the best from Holland....!
What a nice surprise. Thank you so much for the upload. Edit:-My apologies. I didn’t realise it was your own narration until I read the description. Kudos and many thanks for your work.
Until hearing this tale, I liked Orchid's although never able to grow them, don't think I'll ever try now, beauty with death !!!, not a story I've heard before so real treat to hear your narration, Thank You
@@sherlock_holmes_magpie_audio *Thanx Greg... Our parents gave us the same name but yours also gave you the genes for developing and perfecting elocution talents... whereby the slight of my envy is overcome by overwhelming admiration and appreciation of your skills.* gw
In 1951, John Wyndham wrote a science fiction story called "The Day of theTriffids", from which the 1962 film was based on starring Howard Keel. A Triffid, with it's tentacles and orchid-like flower on top, was a plant that consumed human blood (like in the Wells story) but it could uproot itself and walk about. The film incorporates the use of a greenhouse, but that could be a coincidence, I'm sure. Could it be that this H.G. Wells story was the inspiration for "The Day of the Triffids"? I wonder!
Two of my favorite things here: orchids and and paranormal/science fiction stories. And according to the comments, this was posted on famous sleuth Holmes' birthday? All the better.
A thousand thanks for this excellent reading! I love these short stories that Wells wrote so well - any chance of 'The Purple Pileus' at some future point?
Greg, I love your narration and I listen to these every night when I go to bed. I can no longer listen to anyone else read these stories so I was wondering if you will be completing the rest of the Case Book? I really hope so 😊
