I've always preferred Saloons, I cannot understand how people think SUV's are more appealing, most modern stuff leaves me cold.

What was “special” about these series of cars is that they were well built, mechanically reliable and depreciated very heavily. Hence in the late 70s and early 80s you could pick a 4 year old example for 30% of its list price and still have the bulk of its use ahead of you. My Dad ran several of these as private taxis and they hit the nail bang on the head. Luxury without the apparent ostentatious criticism that German stuff attracted at that time

I used one of these in the '70s in my role as a bank employee & travelled the length & breadth of the UK in it so over 2 years knocking up a quite high mileage. The car NEVER let me down come hail, snow, rain or high temperatures

The amalgamation of Ford Britain and Ford Germany began with the 1965 Transit, 1967 Mark 1 Escort, then the 1969 Capri. The TC Taunus Cortina was fourth. The Consul - Granada was an excellent car and seriously challenged the 6 cylinder BMW's and W114/5 Mercs. The ride was 9 tenths as good as the XJ6. Ford made the same basic car until 1985 and it was still good then.

My dad had a 1972 consul 2500 v6 from new. In damp misty humid weather if left outdoors, it wouldn't start in the morning. It ran well and was a pleasure to drive, it had an automatic choke which reved the engine up to 1200 rpm when cold, had great brakes, the gear lever came off in my dads hand, low 20s mpg. A head gasket went at 80 odd thousand. The engine was rebuilt. My sister ran it low on oil and it siezed and was scrapped. It was a replacement for a 1970 corsair 2000, the corsair was faster and we all prefered it and regretted the change. They were both manual.

My father used to have a 2.0 Litre Ford Consul and then later on he bought a 2 Litre White Ford Granada Estate which i used for work,i think that was one of the best work horses i've ever had,just a simple 2 Litre engine no computer no catalytic convertor no sensors apart from the usual temp and oil on the engine and it only ever broke down once because of a faulty condensor,what a brilliant car and i do miss it 👍

Great video, great car. Sorry to nitpick but I think the leather was vinyl and the wood came from the Formica tree. No matter, the Granada was a wonderful piece of design, both Mk1 and Mk2.

Very happy memories of hiring a 3.0 litre GXL for a week, from Godfrey Davis Car Hire in Sheffield. Covered a ridiculous number of miles and fell in love with the car. Superb styling.

An excellent video thanks. I've always loved Ford's they knew what we wanted and gave it to us from Fast Fords to the Granada Cosworrth (not the frog eye). Don't forget how generous they were to film companies very clever marketing courtesy of The Sweeny and many more. But they've lost it in my opinion with the discontinuation of the Fiesta Focus and now Mondeo. I do hope history proves them wrong.

Loved them. My dad bought a diamond white 2.5 in 1973. Ruby red velour interior, black vinyl roof. Great for swallowing up the whole family . Unfortunately there were automatic choke issues, it drank petrol around town, and ultimately rusted badly. I can still remember the distinctive smell of the Ziebart underseal that was applied from new. Happy days.

Careful … you can’t be comparing with a Buick or Cadillac- those are General Motors! More appropriately… a Lincoln or Mercury - indeed the USA had its own Ford Granada- same name, very different car. Lovely video - many thanks 🙏

I as a car mad kid in the 70,s wanted my dad to get one.He had a mk1 Escort in brown which he cherished but the Mk1 Granny was the "Boss". My first car was a mk4 cortina and Ford back then just nailed design better than Jag or BMW etc.

@GlennPowell-Is3lg I was just thinking the best competition for the Jags in the 80's banger racing, even today both cars are still used, check out the 2023 world finals at Ipswich for some beautiful examples.

@GlennPowell-ls3lg 7 месяцев назад
@@Phuc_Yhou The bangers in the unlimited class ( 3 litre plus) were all Granada,s and Jags.I had a work mate that raced Jags. God knows how many cars were killed back then.Mk 2 granadas are still being raced???? As for engines its the V6 essex or cologne versus the jag xk6 lump.To be fair in my humble opinion you couldnt put a hairs breadth between either with a good carb/s and camshaft/s. I would go for the Ford though still.Cracking engines that also bolted into Volvo 740,s .

A Granada an executive luxury car?? That's hilarious. Ford made practically the same thing here in Australia, branding it as the Falcon XA/XB/XC. Same styling. The Australian production featured optional 2 big inline six engines and 2 big V8's and a much better dash design. The presenter says it was an executive's alternative to the Mercedes - he's hallucinating. Chalk and cheese. The Granada/Falcon was just a cheap car stamped out for the masses at adequate but not excellent quality. The contemporary Mercedes was the W114/W115 - a car selling for more than double the price, and multiples more reliability, durability, and refinement. If an Australian company had offered its executives a common-as-muck Granada/Falcon, they would have quit in disgust.
