How could improving financial literacy in our households lead to increased prosperity? The concept of financial literacy can be difficult to comprehend. It brings up emotions of fear, embarrassment, frustration, and misunderstanding. Families who increase their understanding of household finances can be empowered to design a life within their earning capacity, that leads to economic empowerment and confidence. An Award Winning Author, a workshop facilitator and an investor. Raised in Inglewood she was surrounded by those facing permanent debt determined to be the exception by age 24 she bought her first rental property. Her mission to advocate for financial literacy and to uplift those feeling overwhelmed by debt. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

The educational system is an embarrassment, unfortunately it has almost nothing to do with education. It's simply a preparation for the hamster-wheel. I learned absolutely nothing about personal finance after completing 2 college degrees. Yet I was doubtful nonsense like poetry, music, philosophy and Psychology while studing electrical engineering.

Thank you for sharing such a personal story to help us understand how important financial literacy is! It's crucial to know that what resources are available to us out there struggling with our finances. Natalie reminds us that even though we've made financial mistakes in the past, we can change our futures so long as we're patient and willing to learn.

What an amazing story. Financial Literacy should be a mandatory subject taught in school. When we don't talk about money we make mistakes and those mistakes can set us back years. Thanks for sharing your story and message. ❤️💰

Unfortunately many of us didn't but I am so proud to hear Natalie sharing her story that I'm sure a lot of of us can identify with ourselves or with those close to us. So many great ideas and advice given regarding finances. I didn't know finance groups existed- such a great idea to keep us accountable. Also, the ease in which you speak and give your experiences makes it real and relatable. I understand now that Financial literacy is not learned in one day, rather it is a language that I must practice and implement daily. Thank you!

@@finsavvylatina I loved your video you and other TED Talkers like the economist Ryan Decker convinced and affirmed my belief that there is no universal financial literacy course. It's a constant factor that must be practiced because at school I learned algebra but I rarely use it at least some basic formulas, and that's why I always read about money and take away what I can implement.

Financial literacy as a foreign language makes total sense! As an English learner, I didn’t implement new words into my vocabulary right away. I had to build a strong vocab foundation before I could practice it in my everyday life. No wonder budgeting and investing seems so overwhelming! As a society, we’re expected to just know how to invest but if we don’t dedicate the time to build a strong financial literacy foundation, we can’t be expected to make wise financial decisions. Thank you Natalie!
