They just added Kung Fu Yoga on Netflix. Basically an Indian film with dancing and signing, and Jackie Chan as the main protagonist. It is freaking amazing!
NJ223Gaming I'd like to see more people against cast like Jet Li in a drama with no action, or Jason Bateman playing an action movie villain. Antonio Bandares did a good one called Black Butterfly.
Jackie's actually landed a number of serious and/or dark and brutal movies in the past decade or so - Police Story Lockdown was pure drama with occasional brutality, and his performance amidst the tension was excellent.
Jackie Chan, Tom Cruise, and Keanu Reeves. These guys are all over 50 (Jackie over 60) and work their asses off and are commited to their stuntwork, and I will watch anything they're in. Also I'm totally calling he's doing a hilariocity on Jason X, or at least my favorite, Part VII.
Jackie Chan already said that he can't really do much of his stuntwork anymore, he's too old for that. He's still gonna do action, but no extreme stunts.
After everything Jackie has done in his career and all the injuries he has faced, I think he deserves to take it easy now with his age. The man is a legend.
I did notice a stunt double twice in the apartment scene with a really bad wig on. the double looked really young too. I just hope they get better wigs and make uo for the double next time
I really liked his movies after watching Goldeneye but I still say his best is Vertical Limit since any of his Bond movies doesnt have the suspense as the dropoff scene in Vertical Limit!
This film made me feel hot blooded. Jackie Chan's performance was cold as ice, and I was utterly entrhalled by all the characters' head games. Chan also surprised me with how fit he was, his movements made me feel like I had double vision. And that ending? It's hard to describe, but it made me feel like I want to know what love is.
When this movie was filmed, Jackie Chan's son was put in jail because of doing drugs, it might make him related to his character in this movie on a new level, hence the awesome performance.
Adrian Hunte Karate kid wasn't necessarily a tiny movie I think Jackie Chan has given us a very versatile amount of roles in his time. I've been living his movies since I was a child the rush hour movies are my favorite comedic movies. I agree you can tell he is so underrated because if he wasn't people would know he has played an immense amount of roles.
I have seen all of jackies movies both wester and chinese but most western audiances have never seen most of them, if you ask the average north american viewer about a jackie chan movie they will either say rush hour or the shanghai franchise
The trailers made me think this movie looks cliche and just another shitty action revenge movie. But hearing it's more political and more of a thriller makes me more interested in seeing the movie. Sounds like Martin Campbell might finally be back to form after that Green Lantern disaster.
BigGeekEmpire come on bro Jackie Chan wouldn't just be in a below average movie. If it had other actors in it I doubt it be as good as it can be. But I would have never thought it be cliche. Jackie Chan is smart he wouldn't just be in a film to be in it.
BigGeekEmpire Wut? I don't remember Jackie Chan being in any action movie that was shitty or horrible. I hated how the trailer misled people to think that it was going to be a Jackie Chan movie. I wanted to watch this movie expecting an action movie with Jackie Chan doing his usual, martial arts kick ass scenes. Imo, they should have Pierce Brosnan as the poster child for the movie. He is pretty reputable and it would have made more sense considering what the movie is about. Political thrillers don't do well if no one knows what is going on.
I think Jaden was casted perfectly in a way you know..cocky, knows no manner, overconfident and I think he presented that quite convincingly in the movie (I might say he wasn't even acting at all, that's just how he is) plus you can actually see him become a better character later in the movie. Good character writing for a young actor at that age.
I can't believe how much I liked this movie, I was expecting it to be more of a traditional jackie chan beat em up movie like you said but it was so much more than it. One of the best films i've seen like this in a while
I love it when actors are given a chance to get out of their comfort zone, play roles they usually don't. Most of Chan's work has been action comedy, so having him work on a dramatic role is a really interesting casting choice. From what I've seen, good comedic actors are often really good in dramatic roles, and I think that might have to do with how they pay attention to timing and nuance so much. Brosnan, I think, is also often underrated as an actor, probably because he was just too darn handsome as the young leading man. I actually prefer his later work more than stuff he did as a young man, because not only has he honed his skills, he gets to play more varied characters. Hearing this movie is more of a political thriller, I mean, that's my jam, so definitely will look where to find this.
i grew up with jackie chan's movie... yes for real. there was a time during my junior high wherechan was somehow REALLY popular in my country, TV channels aired his movies every night. sometimes during the same time
Brosnan stole the whole film as u said, because he was given considerably more screen time than Chan. We, who amongst the audience went to see more of Chan in in this film, felt cheated by that.
I just saw the movie and loved them both. The dialogue was on point! Felt greatly realistic, as if watching it unfold before you, not like a movie. There was no part of it that felt like a movie. It felt too real. Loved it!
Jackie Chan's character was meant to be somebody who come out of the wood, kill his targets, go back into the wood. Man of few words. That's how he builds his enigma. Had the movie gave him more screen time we would have seen only another kungfu flick. Pierce Brosnan did a great job portraying somebody trapped between a rock and a hard place. Turned out he's a victim, too. Both Mr Quan and Mr Hennessy lost almost everything.
After Seeing Shinjuku Incident a few years back, I've been praying for Hollywood to give Chan a mostly dramatic role, so I am EXTREMELY satisfied to hear that Foreigner is what I hoped it would be. Can't wait to see it.
Amazing review Chris, I'm surprised I missed this one! I've loved Jackie since I was a teenager and I was surprised by this film - Chan and Brosnan casually turning in career performances in a left-field drama. It would be great to see some retro reviews of his other films.
I think that Chan and Brosnan are both underrated actors. Chan cut his teeth in kung fu action films that he largely stunted, but portrayed astonishing emotional depth. Brosnan is a Bond man who is taken for granted for his emotional depth as well. This is an odd pairing that seems to highlight more than what has been how they're recognized. I think that any fan of the actors will recognize their true dramatic range.
I give this film an A+... I've never seen such a humorous (at times) and exciting action movie about 1 man vs a giant that also happens to be an aging Chinese man. And Jackie really acted well, especially scenes with his daughter... this movie was way cool! I was glued to it, literally...
Thank you Chris. As usual you give a great thorough review. I particularly like the fact that you repeat the point that Jackie Chan isn't young and this isn't a beat em up movie.
Stoked to see this movie now, I hadn't heard of it till you brought it to me here. Your reviews are always so measured and consistent (and excellent) that I'm starting to be able to call your reviews beforehand based on your tone and delivery (not a bad thing) -- Your B+ voice was out in force today :D:D
fantastic movie....i was thoroughly impressed...some truly ripping scenes of camera work, storytelling and IRA dynamics;pierce brosnan really does have some gripping scenes;his persona with SO many players (and the unfolding of the loyalty+rich history they share) delivers BIG!
I'm seeing a midnight showing of the original Friday the 13th film from 1980 tomorrow night. So, I'm eager to see your upcoming Hilariocity. Keep making them great videos, Chris!
After being let down from the Rotten Tomatoes rating which is currently at 63% I was very disappointed because yesterday it was at 83% which is fantastic!!! I have high hopes for this and when I seen it drop down to 63% I started to get very down about it, but as soon as I watched Chris' review I immediately felt better, basically every single review this guy has done I have agreed pretty much 100 percent with anything he says about a film, I'm pretty sure it's safe to say "The Foreigner" is going to be miles ahead better than Jackie's latest few movies like "Skiptrace" "Dragonblade" "Kung Fu Yoga" and "Railroad Tigers" I am the biggest Jackie Chan fan but my god those movies were absolute trash
AVLife man stop leaning on that shit fuck those reviews on rotten tomatoes. Just go based on weather you like the characters and storyline. Movies are a hit or miss anyways. That's the fun factor to go in to a movie and make your own review to yourself. I say fuck the reviews that take shit so seriously. I love the RU-vid reviewers because I feel they are more in touch with their public.
I know a lot of Americans probably didn't notice it, but I'm surprised how much they've made Brosnan look like Gerry Adams. Given the context of the film as well, it can't be a coincidence either.
I noticed straight away and I'm sure they received backlash from that surely as Gerry Adams was never "confirmed" as a member of the IRA I'm sure he wasn't happy about it. We all know he was though😂🤷♀️
Excellent review comrade, I always like your style of reviewing, being clean and accurate and to the point is something that makes me come back to your videos all the time. But I feel that you often too much compartmentalize the genres a film should be in, in this video this is notable a bit with the part of it being a mash between action and thriller. This is only a minor observation in otherwise excellent review. Have a nice day you all and you Chris
Hey Chris! Keep up the good work brother. I would love to hear your thoughts on the movie Butterfly on a wheel(also called Shattered) starring Pierce Brosnan and Gerard Butler. For some reason this review made me think of that movie.
Been excited since I first saw the trailer, and now looking forward to it even more this weekend. I hope my wife doesn't mind that it isn't as action-y as the trailers might suggest though.
Awesome review can definitely see you’re not being biased whatsoever and seemed genuine. Haven’t seen it yet but I will tomorrow! I’m stoked to see Jackie in this type of movie. Hate seeing him get older as he’s one of my heroes and literally grew up watching him but age hits us all :( still the living Goat
jgwentworth34 yes it had one late showing in my town and it looked terrible. Majority of the film takes place during the day, there are no scary parts, effects are awful, its corny as hell lol
I'm really glad you enjoyed this movie too. I saw it a few hours ago and really enjoyed it, and then was reading roger ebert reviews that trashed it. I thought I was missing something but you have validated my opinion haha. You seem to match my style of movie taste and that's why I trust you as a critic and reviewer. Thank you.
Saw the trailers for this film months ago and I am glad to hear that this film is not a beat em up, with Martin Campbell I expect more and I’m glad it pays off. Looking forward to see this.
After Jackie Chan's last few years of "China friendly" mediocre flicks like Kungfu Yoga, Railroad Tigers, CZ12, Skiptrace etc. I'm glad that he's finally making a comeback. Now we just need Rush Hour 4 and Shanghai Dawn to complete it.
i'm afraid that there's gonna be more of those "friendly" movies. but mainly because he's old. hardworks like the foreigner is too challenging for him.
Is it just me or does jackie Chan seems irrelevant to the plot? The names of the terrorists were found out thanks to the police department by tracking the guy with the burn marks and if Jackie Chan didn't kill those terrorists himself then the team positioned around that room would've taken them out. And even if Jackie Chan didn't expose that Pierce brosnan was cheating with one of the accomplices of the terrorists it wouldnt matter because the prime minister already threaten Pierce brosan to confess everything.
+Freakyboy2nd 101 Yeah, but that's why it's a story!! It's the story of both these guys. As a matter of fact, their celebrity presence probably helps it, since it probably accentuates their face-off.
Suprised not many other people share the same opinion. Really thought Jackie Chan's character was pointless. He literally made no difference in the outcome of the whole movie and what was terrorizing the one person in the IRA that was against the bombings...just didn't make sense to me personally. Then all the betrayals in the NRA were like meh. Maybe if Chan had teamed up with the Irishman towards the end would the movie make more sense? Idk, but I was surely disappointed. Great acting but the story was just a Trainwreck imo.
Just letting you know that I really like how consistent you are with your rating. I always try to guess what rating you gonna give the movie taking into account your critique and I'm on a streak lately. I guessed the last 7 correctly XD
