I love how you made reference to the 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.9. Like you said very few people know about it and it was pretty much like the og “SRT” Jeep as it inspired the later generations. It would be cool if you made a video about it I used to own one and still go back and watch many of the videos and pics of it for memories.
Just sold my club cab Dakota R/T after 23 years a couple weeks ago. I’m going to miss that thing but I got an offer I couldn’t refuse. It was Amber Fire Pearl Coat. The best way I could describe it was like if the 5.0 Foxbody came in truck form. Still got an SRT-10 Ram regular cab to have fun in though! 😁
Aw damn. Amber fire is probably my favorite rt color. I've owned my black regular cab for about 3 years now. Engine and transmission blew up and its STILL waiting for the hemi because the daily keeps stealing all of my moneg
FINALY someone talks about the 5.9 grand cherokee. I have been searching for ages to see it in one of these videos. I have one btw she is an awsome car and reliable as hell. I just clocked over 279000 miles and she still hauls.
I wouldn't seek one out, but a Ram SST is a dream truck of mine. Such a damn good looking truck. You should do the 70s too man, best and worst. Keep it up
Your knowledge is impressive. I've watched like 4 if these lists and you have only mentioned 1 car I didn't know about ( a gm model from the 90s woth 190hp NA 4cyl) everything else I knew but im a DORK and like you spent hours and days and Years looking for quirky rides..... but I must admit.... the level of detail you know these odd balls in is very impressive. Keep going! Like subscribe and hit thr bell
I have a 98 SS s10 I bought new in high school. There were only 4 to choose from in the whole state of MI. Still have it. The only year SS with that front end. Roll pan, manual windows and locks, split bench and solid rear window. I also have the anti hop shock in the rear. These also had a quicker steering ratio gear box. Bone stock at Milan MI went 15.2. There were a few R/Ts and two brothers with SS/T's in my area. We would always look for eachother when we were out driving around just to catch a light. Fun times
I'm still building my Dakota R/T I bought 2 years ago. Watching this video makes me want to restore it to stock but I'd loose value in it. Trophy truck build is where its at
Yeah those S10 SS trucks weren't anything fast at all. I had an AUTOMATIC 99 Escort ZX2 that blew away my buddy's S10 SS multiple times on a long highway drive.
I saw a new SST at the Chicago Auto Show in 97, and I wanted 1 so bad. Dealer mark ups were pushing them into stratospheric levels because they were limited editions. We're talking in the 40k range. I ended up special ordering a 98 Dakota Sport reg cab 2wd with the 5.2 and 5 speed which I still have. It has every available option except center console and 3.92 rear gear. I have the folding center console/arm rest and 3.55s. I have just 38k on it now. What I will say is I was lucky enough to work on and drive a 91 454 SS in the late 90s. Chevy did some homework on these things. The trans was crisp, the low end torque was silly. Roasting tires was just a tip of the throttle away. Down side was 1 was not able to haul or tow much with the lowered suspension.
It would be really funny if you mockingly sang "Like a rock" during the muted commercials. Or just talk over them, no reason to have complete silence imo.
230 hp out of a 7.2L v8 is a wild amount of displacement for output we get in 2L boosted 4 cylinders today with ease. I wanted a 454 SS in the early 2000s as a teenager
great video bud! my dad optioned out 2 blazers 89 & 94 one was a 2dr the other a 4dr but he had em in 4dw with the same turbo system that was in the typoon! they were fast!
The pinnacle of GM’s small truck platform in terms of performance during the 90s was the GMC Syclone. It was the fastest out of all 90s performance trucks. It was faster than some supercars at the time.
@@LucasMullins-j4y GM Really did some amazing things with turbos in the later 80's, early 90's. Makes one wonder what could have been if they would have expanded across more platforms like cars of today.
Also in 1991 my new wife gave me the choice, a blue dark gray two tone extended cab with 350 5 speed stick or a new 454 SS, I wanted that SS so bad but it was a two seater , it had a center console and it was my wife and son and me ,no room, so I got the ext cab! I wish they made a 454 in the ext cab, I did test drive it that day! I’m still married to her, nowadays she would tell me absolutely not, her telling me it’s up to you stuck with me till this day, I think because she also liked it, but my son would have to sit on her lap, we didn’t have enough money to buy a second car back then, now I own 6, 23 Colorado TB, 2006 HHR SS, 2008 C6 Z06 Vette, 02 Silverado ext cab I bought new, new Corolla, and her new Toyota Highlander!
Like u said….”I’m only gonna get better from here”…1 more subscriber and all bell notifications. All those trucks you highlighted are so Iconic of the time. I remember them all.
@GreenHawkDrive no problem and thank you I appreciate that someone takes all the time it takes to make video's as a way to document the different cars & trucks of the many eras especially the rare ones that alot of people forgot about or didn't know about so it's great that you do all this so they're not forgotten
Here in Australia GM Holden offer ute in SPack then full SS trim but most fans rebadged S as SS. Holden performance arm HSV offer Maloo (Aboriginal word for thunder). All Holdens were offer manual or automatic with V8. Ford offer XR6 n XR8 as performance utes, other models were Splash, Outback with unique features, same as Holden with manual or automatic. Later 2000 Holden offer Thunder, HSV Maloo R8, Maloo GTS, Ford FPV Pursuit, F6 Typhoon models got better in performance packaging.
I have built the Monogram 1/24 99 Dodge Ram SST with the Viper V10 model kit and the AMT 94 Ford F150 Lightning 1/25 scale model kit... The 1/25 scale kits of the 90 Chevy SS454 pickup I have seen are rather pricey ..
Lightning was better than the 454 SS and it didnt blow transmissions and was faster and could haul more. The 5.9 ZJ Grand Cherokee was a nightmare.. we had so many issues with it when I worked for Chrysler. Plus they were getting ready for the second gen GC, with new V8s. Ranger Splash, Edge, Ford Nite F150 and Ranger GT (but that was 80s)
they were considerably less durable than the 318/360 they replaced BUT only due to how it was cared for. The vast majority of Americans wait until theres a problem before doing maintenance instead of preventive maintenance. Ive seen a 4.7 with 300K on it. The guy took care of it. Adding to the issue are dealerships that dont push maintenance are dont enough know the vehicle maintenance schedule.. From transmission fluid changes to timing belts.. @@landonbenford8369
That's pretty sad for a 454 to only make 255 horsepower and 405 lb of torque now I know there's a year difference my 2000 Dodge that has the 360 in it five nights so quite a bit of less cubic inches but that made 245 horsepower and 330 lb of torque it's amazing how close those two engines are but so different in cubic inches is that 454 on that Chevy was so restricted cuz it could make way more
GM did supercharge the s10 back then, the supercharged the 4.3 in the S10 Cyclone and Blazer Typhoons, i have a 02 ZR2, its great off-road but sucks as a daily driver, it rides rough af and gets horrible gas mileage.
Off road the Dodge Dakota was not even in the same league as the Toyota T100s, the late 80-90s Toyota 4×4s are among the best trucks ever made, i had a 87 with the 22R 5 speed combo it had a 6" suspension lift and a 3" body lift to fit the 35" tires, i put close to 100,000 miles on that truck and never had a mechanical issue with it other than a couple U-joints, i sold it close to 10yrs ago and still regret doing so 😔
The 1964 Dodge had the 426 Wedge not Hemi, also the Dakota 5.9L R/T was available with a 5-Soeed which was geared low thus tricky to drive during the winter.
We have a 96 Jeep Grand Jeep Cherokee limited I'm 19 now but I remember when we got rid of our old Camaro that would break down all the time are old 78 Chevy was more reliable the Camaro but I don't know exactly which year the Camaro was, but it was a nice looking one. Much better than these modern ones that's for sure but anyway we got the Jeep 2010 2012 I think
What’s the difference between the 454 in the truck and the chevelle, ik that the chevelle 454 puts out like 390hp and like 480lbs, but that’s all my knowledge about it
The 454 was a dog stock but throw some brodex heads, TSP cam, high rise intake with holly terminator EFI and some turbos and itll be as fast as a 2en gen lightning 😂
The Silverado SS really wasn't anything special, the TBI is hopeless when it comes to making horsepower. I blew the doors off of one with my stock 5.3.
Bro I gotta know how u drop that one video from 5 years ago get a viral amount of views and then not drop for two years ? Did u make couple hundred bucks on that vid lol
Not a dime my friend! I had to take a break. Over that 3 year gap, I recently got out of a relationship, and was getting ready for my first year in college.
I kinda like that we're heading back to having "sport trucks". Just waiting for the big jump and seeing a stink bugged single cab short box anything from factory
Loving all of your videos, watching newest to oldest keep up the good work, verry glad you dont use that annoying AI like some other car video channels 😢
I think there's a lot of truck that they would have liked to have made back in the day but the auto industries governed by a bunch of dummies in offices and they basically say no you can't put that motor in there that's too much power and the public says fuck you we want that motor and then emissions comes into play one of the biggest crocs of shit
i still have my 04 dakota it has the 3.7 magnum in it people say it under powered but theres a few cars ive beaten that had a turbo plus i modded the shit out of the 3,7 and its still all motor and it almost beaten a vette the vette won by a car length compare to a heavy truck thats not that good areodymtics and with a v6 im proud how close and how fast i made it against a vette
Great show! I loved my 94 S-10 SS, I bought it on impulse, someone had ordered it and the deal fell through. No A/C no Power windows or locks. Just AM/FM Cassette and cloth interior. But 190 hp in an empty truck was enough to smoke some fools at traffic lights. I traded it in on my 99 Ford Ranger. I loved my SS but it sucked in bad weather.
im trying to get one of those lightings at some point in my life. Those things are wild. It would be cool to see a video on "the most loyal engines". Engines that typically outlive the vehicle host (aka shipping containers). Engines that are known for being neglected but continue on anyways. Regardless of who makes it. Its neat to see the heartbeat of a car or truck live on in something else.
@@GreenHawkDrive Hey if you end up needing fresh footage regarding the ford 300 feel free to reach out! I look forward to this! Glad to be here before 10k. God bless! and remember all things for the Glory of God!
Great videos! You should consider doing a full-size 80’s/90’s SUV video. Bronco, K5 Blazer, Ramcharger. Also, maybe then the smaller segment like Bronco ll, S10 Blazer, Jeep.
You really need to do better research. No 90's Magnum V8 Ram made that little horse power. The SST and Indy pace trucks did not have more power than a regular Magnum 5.9. You are giving horsepower numbers from the 80's for you low power numbers. Please get your facts correct as it is clear by comments that people believe what you are saying.
Which is sad! 234hp from a 454! What a disgrace! Think about that. A Dakota had 230hp from a 318 at 1st. The same time Chevy put a 454 with the same hp. Sad very sad.
The thumbnail really excited me, since I've seen one of the pace trucks around locally a few times but I never really knew if it was a real model or a replica, but now I know.
I had a 1993 Dodge Dakota with the 5.2ltr V8 and that thing roasted tires like no other. A kid I went to highschool with had a 98 300zx and he talked shit on my Dakota, we raced and my truck ate his pos Nissan for lunch.
U forgot the sick looking hood scoop that came optioned on the 5.9rt. You also didnt mention that although the S10 Extreme was mostly an apprernce package, they made a low number of them in single cab WITH that massive 4.3l. The only compact mini truck to have their top v6 in single cab configuration. I had a supercharged 01 tacoma with boltons running 100 oct and got walked (slowly walked) by one with just intake and muffler. Those things were stupid fast
Hey man, just as a heads-up, I think you'd be able to use the commercial jingles in future videos, I'd be able to classify your work as somewhere between commentary and education, plus it's transformative enough where I don't think a DMCA claim would be able to be justified. Anyways great stuff, always a sucker for classic car and truck videos.
My friend in high school had a 5 speed 360 Dakota rt club cab. Truck was unreal and terrible on fuel. May have been paired to a manual after the fact no idea. But damn it was a fun drift truck.
I subscribed. I watched 4 of your videos now. You do great work. You do your homework and have your specs and details nailed down. Love that. Nice to see a younger man getting the facts correct when it comes to the trucks and cars of the past that my generation grew up with. I like it when you admit you may have the specs wrong. Nice. I'm 55 and have been a car guy since I was 14 years old....... Keep up the good work.
The 454 ss is a decent bargain for the day. I just bought a 23 f150 4x4 5.0 scsb for 43k otd for a base truck. Really the only thing comparable in todays market
