As a participant in the "Streets of Slough" project I was asked to make a short film using some archive footage of the town from the early fifties.
Check out Finnbarr MacGinty's Contact details and demo reel: www.piehole.ie/finnmacginty
He's reliable and very efficient, despite having several other projects on the go at the time he got back to me in less than two days with a complete V.O of proffessional standard.
*Edit: unfortunately Finn MacGinty passed away. He was a great talent and a good family friend. I'm glad I got to work with him, however briefly.

does anyone remember ‘the golden mile’. you could stand at one end of the high street and see all the way down the high street. every shop had something new. you could be in the high street and within 10 minutes walk , be in countryside! The Slough festival which everyone attended in the other end of the high street whilst waiting for your bus . The smell of hops & barley from the many and varied pubs was lovely. They brought life to the town. The cinema on Windsor road opposite those very beautiful 17th century buildings and observatories. The beautiful posh ancient Slough hotel in the hill opposite the train station . The Bailey’s park lido. salt hill park was amazing with the bowling green, paddling pool and steam roller. the characters such as the olde country farmer who always wore long white canvas type shirt, carried a staff and had big sheepdog. or the sister from the convent who would race around in her hand peddled wheelchair at breakneck speed. Slough was once a lovely warm community filled place . Nearly every road had hedgerows and lawns on the front garden and trees lined the road. Birds of every variety. Toads, frogs , hedgehogs all of which seem to gave disappeared. We had them in so much abundance we thought we had plagues of animals like toads and sparrows once.

I had no idea that the high street was once called The Golden Mile. Thanks for the info!

Believe it or not, in the 1950s Slough was called 'Slough Safety Town'. Tragic what's happened to Slough but same happening or already happened to most towns in UK. Certainly made worse by Mass immigration & illegals who cross many borders to get here from France who are welcomed by British Authorities.

Who by? Slough must be one of the most environmentally unfriendly places on earth. There is absolutely no concern for or knowledge of environmental matters. The only thing Slough is producing is a run down, filthy rubbish strewn dump with no wildlife. This is NOT progress

Timjan Day we are all going to die one day we don’t need to worry about environment. Government and people like you are thick they make low emission zones when the main problem to pollution is coal and gas power plants cars are not the problem. Also what’s the point in reducing pollution look at Dubai such a. Clean country and they have tons of super cars there. Maybe it is clean because it is a Muslim country and there are no drunk chavs there smoking and selling drugs

I lived in Iver Heath from1972-1995. Rochford's Gardens, SL2 til 1997 when we move out of the area to Bicester, Oxon. Slough has changed substantially over my lifetime but I sill have a fondness for the place where I grew up.

It was a great place to live in the 1980s and 90s when i was there , but so many migrants came to Slough and wrecked it Asians and EU migrants everywhere now no English left , not racist to say that as its the truth , I grew up on Britwell estate and although it was a tough estate , we all knew who the bad reputation people were and avoided them , I went to St Anthony's and St Josephs and everyone knew each other , it was a lot better than the quagmire it is today where no one talks to each other why ? because most people cant speak same language , its become the United Nations of UK lol

We moved to Stoke Poges in 1968. Slough was still untouched, buses and cars travelled the length of the highstreet and the A4 through the trading estate was the most traffic lighted in England. So much has changed now and it is all down to immigration, no ifs, no buts. Unpopular though true.

Wish Slough was the same as it was back in the 50's and 60's. Now it's a nightmare! I've not met one person who can say they actually like living here. Slough will one day explode as a segregated society does not work!

The only reason why it was good is because of the crossrail. Train was one of the few main ways to get around back then so it was a success, now it's used for business and stuff like that.

I actually like Slough as it is today. I grew up there in the 70's and 80's. The community is diverse but I consider that to be a totally positive thing.
