The Fortney Hotel: Past, Present and Future 

I just finished watching this. Just wanted to say that if this doesn't get on Wisconsin PBS, then something ain't right. What a wonderful, inspiring documentary. And the family who has taken this project on with such generosity and vision exemplifies why Wisconsin (and the Driftless) is such a special and deeply good place. Bravo. May the Historic Hotel Fortney become a destination for fly fishers from around the Midwest, the U.S., and the world. Long live Viroqua.

Excellent story. I worked at the hotel for my Uncle (Jerry Peterson) in the late 70s through 82. Glad to see the hotel is going through a real restoration vs what my Uncle was able to do. I painted and help carpet every room on the upper floors.

What a marvelous way to tell the story of this building. Very enjoyable. I have one more question. Is there a sub basement under the basement? And could we see pictures of the 9 floor ceiling in the basement? It sounds like it was quite lovely.

I wonder why the original one was torn down.
